Aragorn sees Arwen, and backs away, dropping the plantir, and the Evenstar(as it show). And the Evenstar shatters... but if it didn't shatter... than what really happened? Because I don't think that scene was also a dream...
For that to happen would he have not had it to be holding it in his hands? Because when he backs away he is kind of throwing the Palintir. I'm a kind of phyics freak but I've thrown laots of things and my necklace didn't fall off. But then again the kind of clasps we have didn't exist then. If it was Arwen that broke the pendant I could see it like that(She would get sooo busted) because it comes down to about the middle of her chest, but on Aragorn it barly come to the nape of his neck so it couldn't have just come over his head. So I also think it was a dream sequence.

But he could have been holding it, because he thought that would be safer because of the dream... unless it was another vision, then why do they show it falling out of his hand in the Plantir scene?

He wasn't holding it in the Palantir scene, it was around his neck as always, or so I recall. I think the vision of Arwen in the Palantir brought back a vision of the dream to Aragorn, and PJ was trying to show that. However, it did seem to come across as the Evenstar actually shattering.

Hm, I've always wondered about this as well in the movies. I was under the presumption that it did break. However, after seeing those pictures in the first link I'm now not sure.
Now, I'm going over the "last move" screen captures....If you look at this picture:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v195/ ... group9.jpg
It appears he is wearing something under his clothes...or maybe it's just a clasp for his armor?
But if you look at this picture, you can see the clasp at the necklace chain itself.

My only theory is, maybe they hadn't of planned to show the evenstar breaking....I don't know....or maybe they had filmed the battle first! I agree! Or maybe they have really good adhesive in Middle Earth. Middle Earth Super glue! Let's write PJ!
In conclusion, Frodo has the evenstar ....that would solve it all

but them... movie wize... it wouldn't make sence if Aragorn had the evenstar the hole time, then it shatters then *poof* Frodo has it.
But on the second picture, it could have been something else... it looked like to me, the end of the necklece was outside of his armor and such...

Hmmm, this is so difficult. You know, I don't think I've ever examined Viggo's neck this much before....
I mean, the evenstar was a great addition to the whole aragorn/arwen thing....but I kinda was looking forward to Arwen giving Frodo the Pendant to lift his spirits etc...

I agree, you think you can sorta see it but it's hard to be sure. I was confused as well! I always thought, maybe I'm just ignorant, but in my experience, dropping something out of your hand doesn't make your necklace fall off! And yeah, who knows, maybe it did shatter and any other shots are a mistake! Argh!

I don't think the Evenstar actually shattered, but I do believe that by showing it shattering it symbolised that Arwen was dying, that she had chosen a mortal life. It also showed her "dying" in the Palantir when Aragorn looks into it.
Lol, this whole bit confused me terribly when I first saw it!

Well, I would like to hope it doesn't shatter. But then, what happened? You see it break...but you see it at the Black Gates. PJ should have made that a little more clear.

well we know the first time the show it break it was a dream. but i always thought that in the E.E. when the scene happens that it acually broke but now reading everyone elses comments im not to sure. i guess it could be a posiblity that it was a flash back to the dream but i think they may have done that scene so it acually looks like a flash back and not the real thing.
another interesting thing is that it did show arwen's son whereing the pendent so if it broke then maybe that would change something in the future. but they are elves so they could do something and have it again, or something like that.
idk ....you know what im confusing myself so i think ill stop now. 8)

Ohh PJ...I want to sit with him for like a week and have him explain in detail EVERY effects shot and EVERY quirky little trick they used. I love you, PJ!
