Tar, I may have to look up that band soon, while I'm at it... that and the Weakerthans, who I've been curious about for a while.

To be honest, I have trouble seeing you liking The Weakerthans. They're just too... Not Skillet. In every way possible.

I'm listening to one of their songs now, and it's not terrible, but you're right, I don't think I could ever actually listen to them regularly.

Perhaps something that isn't one of their slowest songs would be more to your liking.  Try Aside, Watermark or Our Retired Explorer.
