 Hell I wish I had DT's number.
I'm in two minds about the whole thing tbh.
On one hand I'm sad to see DT leave, he was my second fave Doctor to Tom Baker. On the other hand, new series. New head honcho. New Doctor.
I'm hopeful they'll cast well and if the rumours I've heard are true....Sean Pertwee FTW!

Tennant...I just don't know. I can't decide whether he beats Baker or not. It's so hard to choose.
But I do know that I want Tennant to stick around.

I'm very attatched to Tom Baker. He was my Doctor growing up and he had one of my fave companions and of course the awesome K-9. David was a wonderful Doctor and we should all be happy that we got someone so fantastic after Christopher.
If this is what David wants, I fully support him. He has to get out sometime, why not go out on a high?
Another rumour that's cropped back up again, about the new Doctor is David Morrissey.

I refuse to believe any rumors. Not until it's confirmed will I approve or disapprove any of them.

Well I personally love the Doctors separately. There is absolutely no way I could love Chris or David or Tom or whoever more or less than another. I guess I put them into their own category....because no way I could compare them. XD
I also will not listen to any rumours as to who the next Doctor may be. Not until it's like ever "officially" announced or until I actually see the regeneration.
David Morissey? I like him and all, but isn't he in the X-Mas special? Kinda of awkward....not sure how they could pull that off.
And I agree, I'll support David's decision (unless he was forced to by teh JFishness herself ) fully. Best to go out on a high note.

That's a good point about David Morrissey MB. It'll make the Xmas special a helluva lot more interesting at least lol

after a long absence, i thought i should revive this thread to say...
THE ELEVENTH DOCTOR WILL BE REVEALED TOMORROW ON BBC1 AT 5:35!
a million different names have been put forward by now, but my favourite suggestion is ben whishaw. for any who don't know who he is, he's a 28 year old british actor who recently played sebastian in brideshead revisited, beat leornardo dicaprio to get the lead in perfume, and got rave reviews playing hamlet a few years ago (far better reviews than tennant's got). he's an extremely talented actor, always exciting to watch, and the idea of watching him every saturday evening makes me very happy. unfortunately, i can't see him doing it though - like christopher eccleston, he has too much talent and (i hope) integrity to commit to a long run, and they won't want the next doctor to do another eccleston and leave after one series; plus, he's very publicity-shy and hates interviews, but a role like the doctor would require him to do a lot of promotional work. shame that.
of the more likely options, none of them really excite me so i don't have a particular preference. we'll just have to wait and see.

My vote would be for John Simm. But that's probably not going to happen.
... Then again, he doesn't seem to be working on any big projects at the moment, and it's SciFi, so they can do whatever they want to explain it...
PLEEEZ. I would die such a happy death.
That's really exciting. Now I need to go to the Scream Thread JF just opened.

I'm firmly anti-anyone that's appeared on DW returning as the Doctor, not matter how much I like them. That's why I was so gutted that Colin Salmon was in last season, he was my pick lol.
I'll support whoever it is though, even if I disagree with the choice.

^ i'd hate it if they cast someone who'd already been in it (*cough* freema *cough*). that's why it's such a pity that simon pegg's already had a bit part. he'd have been perfect.

Okay, wait -- WHAT?
First of all, TOMORROW?!
And secondly, they're actually ANNOUNCING it??
I think I'd prefer NOT knowing until it actually happened. You know? But maybe that's just me.
As for who ... Simm would've been great. Damn him for already being a Time Lord. And I forgot about Simon Pegg! AWWW! He would've been brilliant.
Now, my friend who is a MAJOR Stargate fan sent me an article about RTD getting in a hissy fit about Sci Fi/MGM signing Robert Carlyle in the new Stargate show. Actually, he TOTALLY dissed Stargate, which is hysterical. Ahhh, the lack of love among the Sci Fi community. (I think it's Stargate: Universe or something) To be honest, Carlyle will be the only reason I watch the new Stargate show... But I would've REAAAALLY loved him as the Doctor. So I wonder if there had been some talks or something ... and if there was, I understand RTD's frustration. Damn Americans. ACTUALLY! Damn CANADIANS. Mwa ha ha ha ha! For once it's not an American thing! Okay, I'm getting off track.
Here's the article:
--> http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/12/idoctor_whoi_producer_doesnt_car.shtml
So, I'm a wee bit disappointed that they are announcing, but I guess I'll support it. And I trust RTD (and DW team) enough -- because he is god (and they're all demi-gods).

I actually don't want to know who was cast. That will be such a major spoiler to me. Like, I didn't want to know that Tennant was leaving either. It would have made it so much better for me if he hadn't announced it, and instead just regenerated and let it be a surprise. I don't know how I'm going to manage, but I have cotton in my ears for anyone who wants to tell me who the next doctor is.

i'd love to just find out as it happened (i was rooting for a shock regeneration at the end of last series), but i guess they have to announce it really - there's no way they could have kept tennant's departure or the identity of his replacement secret, not with our press. i'm surprised it hasn't been leaked yet. and seeing as he won't regenerate for another year, there's no way i'll be able to not hear who it is, so i might as well find out tonight. i mean, it'll be all over the news, the papers, and the internet by tonight.
shall i post the name of the actor, but in reeeaaallly tiny letters, so you won't have to read it if you don't want to? or would the guys who don't want to know prefer it if i PMd those who do want to know?
MB - i'd have loved robert carlisle too. he's a fantastic actor, and he'd bring the same sort of depth and integrity as eccleston did. i was gutted when i hears he'd been ruled out because of stargate. (because of which, i wasn't counting him when i said i didn't like any of the suggestions other than ben whishaw.)
