HAPPY NEW YEAR
I don't know what i'l be doing this year, i'm eiter going out with freinds or staying home.

Our tradition in England though not many people do it now is to take a peice of coal to every house (we do it just on our street) and get given a drink in return. At midnight all the children in my street also grab bells and run through the village ringing them like mad and wishing everyone a happy new year.

Sounds fun Ea! Hope you have a great time. :)

lol That sounds like a pretty neat tradition Anduril. Does it signify or stand for something? How did it get started?

Well... for my new year I will be doing what I will be doing for the next few months.... working. lol I just have to much stuff to do to take much of a break.

Who knows... we may go over to my sister's, though, for the evening. *shrugs*

Well the coal is to bring warmth and happiness to the house for the comeing year, i think it orginated in scotland.
And the bells; well to be honest I started that and then got all the other children involved as i grew up. It was just a nice way to start the new year and to make lots of noise.

Anduril I love your tradition! It's so awesome! I wish we had something nice like that here in my city...Hmmm...

As for my New Year's...I'll be bag piping and dancing with the Bagpipe Band as usual...Then I might go see a local Irish band...perform.....and..there's supposed to be a huge party at this place called "The Badlander" that I might go to...So, we'll see what happens....

The coal tradition certainly did start here in Scotland. As did the first footer, in which one person would enter the house directly after the bells with the coal and possibly a bottle of whisky or packet of shortbread.

Happy early New Year Eä!

Yay, for seeing so many of you posting, thanks! :-)
And thanks for the well wishes!

Actually, the kids here do make a lot of noise too and go from door to door and puts toothpaste on the door knobs or tape on the keyholes, stuff like that.. but that's the most innocent ... Unfortunately some people take it as a night to do downright vandalism.

Thats tottally uncool and not in the spirit of New Year. New Year is about wishing happiness to everyone for the comeing year not makeing thier life more difficult.

Oh but those people probably wouldn't hesitate to do vandalism at any other occasion at the year, so it isn't just at New Year... Sad, but true...
Most of us just celebrate with silly hats and jump down chairs and into the New Year when the clock strikes midnight! ;P

Its the ONLY New Year's that your 21, or does being over 21 have a special significance? Like your allowed to drink or something.

*Evil grin becuase she is 18 and so allowed to drink*

Wow, It's been long I have made an appearance in here. First of all, happy new year for all. I sadly would not be able to celebrate the coming of new year because I feel so miserable to do that and lazy too. I wish people who will be going to go out for some fun on that very special nite, a nice new year day

Coal tradition indeed is interesting one, Andi. I do not think we have traditions for the new year.
In my country, People just go, spend money ruthlessly to celebrate the new year as it happens every year, believing as it is the only way for celebration. So I do not feel like it is worth celebrating then.

Thanks for considering asking me of this Andi but I do not think it is just the place to voice my rant about the way I feel since I do not wanna people think of me as a problematic person. And I wanna hear people cheer their amusement out for the advent of the new year

*Hugs back*

Yes... YES!!! *laughs* The great thing about turning 21 is......... *drum roll*

Being able to legaly own a hand gun and get a concealed weapons carry permit!!!! *grins widely*

But yeah, we've been down this road before and I know not many of you agree on my "gun point of view" but hey... don't mean I can't tease you all about it! :P

Hey Captain Faramir!!! *waves enthusiastically*

It's been a while since I've seen you on, glad to see you back around. :D

Sorry to hear you are not feeling so great. :( But yeah I get what you mean too... people think going out and spending gobs of money is the way to celebrate... personaly that would make me miserable. I hate spending money.
