Am I the only one that really wasn't bothered by them not pluralising it?
It didn't even register when he said it.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind that he said heart. I just think that it would have been cool if he had said 'hearts'

Well, now that I think of it and have repeated it several times, its starting to sound a bit cheesey. I don't know, it just has an odd ring to it.

It didn't register for me either, actually. But when Tim mentioned it, I thought it was a good point.

Well I guess I'm just so used to the Doctor referring to the fact that he has two hearts, that when he says something like, "they break my heart," THAT sounds unnatural.

The Master actually said it in "The Last Of The Time Lords." He said, "it would break your hearts." Plural. ;)

I'm fine with the fact that he only said "heart" though. :P It's just to me personally, it sounded awkward without it being plural. But that's just me. :P Because I'm weird, and apparently find things that have an odd ring to it natural after a while. HA HA HA! But as ethelfleda said, it's kind of a major detail when dealing with the number of someone's vital organs. XD So who knows! XD Writers will be writers and they'll do what they want because they're crazy genius people. :P

Hey, does anyone know when Doctor Who is actually coming back? Well, when the next episode is? I have no clue.

the bbc have just confirmed that michelle ryan and lee evans will be in an easter special, so i guess that means that first one will be at easter. seeing as there are meant to be four episodes, i guess we should expect one roughly every three months (easter, early summer, beginning of the autumn schedule, christmas).

sorry for the double post.

shadowcat mentioned something about bad wolf in the ‘most recently watched tv show’ thread, so i thought i’d post about it here.

i'm not sure why the doctor says the appearance of bad wolf means the end of the world in "turn left" (i haven't seen that episode for ages, so i my memory's a bit hazy). maybe it was just that he knew something big was going to happen because of what happened last time it appeared, and the scriptwriters though "it's the end of the world" sounded a little more dramatic than "something big's going to happen". (i'm rather mistrustful of scriptwriters, especially bbc writers, and even more especially doctor who writers - they like to hype things up, so you can't take everything they say as gospe truth).

here are my thoughts about bad wolf in series one though. when rose looks into the vortex in the last episode of the first series, i think she sort of gets taken over by the heart of the tardis, so when she talks it's kind of like the tardis talking (remember, the doctor said in "boom town" that the tardis was alive). rose/tardis says "i am the bad wolf. i create myself", so i think the tardis is the bad wolf, and the references to bad wolf scattered throughout the the series are messages planted by the tardis, like graffitti tags saying "i was here", connecting all the places and times that the tardis had been. i know most of the bad wolf references must have already been there before the tardis arrived in a place (for example, the nuclear power station in cardiff was called blaid drwg/bad wolf before the doctor landed there) but we know times a sort of wibbly wobbly mess, so the tardis could have put the references in place retrospectively.

and while i’m here, just a few quick thoughts about the significance of the phrase “bad wolf” itself (i’ll be honest – i didn’t make the first two connections myself):
1) the egyptian wolf god anubis delivered the dead to the underworld and raised people from the dead – he controlled life and death, as rose was able to do when she’d absorbed the power of the tardis
2) in norse mythology, the wolf fenrir was one of the creatures that was destined to bring about the end of the universe – something the tardis would be quite capable of (if the bad wolf is the tardis)
3) wolves are often connected with disguise (the big bad wolf in little red riding hood dressed up as the grandmother, werewolves change their appearance, and then there’s the phrase “wolf in sheep’s clothing”) – if i’m right that the tardis sort of possessed rose, then that could be seen as the tardis being in disguise.

maybe my mum’s right. maybe i do think about things too much.

for me, the main question regarding the series one finale is – why is it that rose held the vortex for a considerably longer time than the doctor, yet she was fine and he had to regenerate, despite the fact that time lords appear to be stronger and more durable than humans? no, forget that; the most important question is – what convinced RTD that the nauseatingly cheesy line “i think someone needs a doctor” was a good idea?

Interesting theories. Much better than anything I would've come up with. :teehee:

As for RTD... well, I'll be blunt. I'm glad he's leaving. I've never much liked the episodes he wrote.

ethelfleda- Actually, I thought "Bad Wolf" was code for the Daleks =/. At least that's the impression I got from the last few episodes of season one (assuming I'm remembering them, correctly, of course :}), season two, and, I believe, "Daleks In Manhattan"/"Evolution of The Daleks" in season three, as well. A much more knowledgeable Doctor Who fan could maybe help me out with that, and correct me if I'm wrong .

^ i'm not sure, but rose definitely said "i am the bad wolf" just before she destroyed the daleks, so i don't think bad wolf can be the daleks.

random thing...i just started a facebook group campaigning for my little sister to be the next doctor who assistant. i did it for a laugh really, although she's deadly serious about wanting to be the new assistant, and i'm deadly serious about thinking she should be. i know you don't know her, but as fellow doctor who fans i thought you might want to lend me your support. if any of you are on facebook and want to join the group, the url is http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2 ... 452&ref=mf thanks.

ethelfleda- Maybe so . My recall of the season one episodes is pretty hazy, as it's been awhile since I've seen them 8). Looking over your original post about the subject again, I'd say that even if you aren't right about the phrase referring to the TARDIS, your theory could still be accurate, based on the mythological references you listed, especially the first two. Here's what I mean:
1) Because The Egyptian god Anubis (he's actually a Jackal, not a wolf, but we'll ignore that in this case) is the purveyor of the dead to the Underworld, the Doctor's frenzied reaction to Donna telling him what Rose whispered in her ear is due to the fact that for him, "Bad Wolf" means Death, in some form or another, will bring about the end of the universe.

2) The wolf's significance in Norse mythology (interesting info, BTW, I didn't know that 8))- Basically the same thing as I wrote above, except for the fact that whatever "Bad Wolf" is, it's not Death incarnate, but rather, some force capable of bringing about the end of the universe.

If anything, the above is what the writers have in mind when they lend such significance to the phrase in episodes of the show.
