SPOILER ALERT!!!!!

My dad's theory: It never happened at all and it was just the story that flashed through Jack's mind before he died. He based his opinion on several things.
1)In a film he watched back in high school, the same technique was used, a lifetime flashing before a man's eyes in the space of a moment.
2)All of the elements of the very first scene were used in the very last scene. Shoe, Dog, even the wound. And the most leading clue, Jack's eyes closing.

Ergo, LOST was just the figmant of a dying man's imagination. Maybe the rest of the characters never existed at all.

From a person who has never watched a single episode of Lost, a person who gave up on the show only based on the description, who is happy she didn't follow the show because the plot sounds really complicated. From a person who has no idea what the show is about and has never visited the thread until now.

I be that person, yesss. :)

I could tell from everyone's sigs that the grand finale was up so I had to see what the fuss was about. I gotta say - after having read that last page, and this (only because it was the first hit on google!) - I really like Freya's dad's theory. Imagine building an entire show on that - a flash of a moment! Wauu!! :P

That's all.

Complain about Jack/Kate all you want. It was pretty much set up from the pilot that Jack and Kate were meant to be. Sawyer did NOT love her, she did NOT love Sawyer. It was nothing more than lust and attraction.

Raivynn, that was just cruel. I know Jack and Kate love each other and I knew all along that the writers were pushing for them to happen. But really, Sawyer and Kate were the one couple that I like that had a small chance of happening. I rooted for them and they didn't happen (not like I expected it to), but it still hurt. I'm upset, and I feel like I have the right to be. I'll get over it eventually.

Interesting theory, Freya. :) That's definitely something to consider, but I don't think the writers would do that. I remember hearing somewhere that the writers said that everything did happen on the Island. Or something like that.

I was talking to my Psych teacher about the ending today, and we both got different impressions from the ending. I assumed that when they were all in the church, they had lived their lives and had come together at the end to "move on". Christian said that "everybody dies sometime", which gave me the impression that not everybody was dead yet. My teacher said that she thought everyone had died in the crash, but that everything on the Island happened to prepare them to move on to...whatever. What do you all think? :-D

I'm sorry about my harsh rant before, if that offended anyone. That was the first time I'd really ranted about the episode, and all of my feelings came out very strongly.

***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***SPOILERS***

I was incredibly confused by the ending. Not by Jack dying but what Christian told Jack at the church. And while it was a sweet moment where everybody met again, I was really hoping for them to end up back at the island, redeemed. That's what I was hoping the flash sideways were; a way for them to find each other in the other timeline so they could all get back to the island, like a second chance. It's not the nightmare ending that I feared it would be (now that would have been Jack waking up in his bed and it was all a dream), but it's not the satisfying ending I was hoping it would be either. Maybe in time, I'll come to like it. Who knows.

That being said, the episode as a whole (minus the ending at the church) was so lovely and so moving. There were so many sweet and sad moments. One of my favorites was Sawyer seeing Sun and Jin at the hospital. The saddest moment for me was Hurley taking over from Jack and how heartbroken Hurley was when he realized Jack would be sacrificing himself.

But at the same time, Jack didn't have to sacrifice himself. After he put the plug back, why did he just sit there?! He could have crawled back out of that hole. I don't get it.

Very few questions were answered, but I actually didn't mind for once. For me it was more important to make it as fulfilling an episode as possible. It was better that the characters got a closure (that they did, even if it wasn't in the way I wanted) than that all the mysteries got a closure.

YESS! I was really confused by that, too. Maybe he decided that he had completed his purpose and knew that his time was over. I feel like he would want to find Kate, though. They had confessed their love for each other, and if I were him, I'd want to be with the person I loved.

I think my favorite parts had to be when Hurley and Ben became the new Jacob and Richard. I'd been rooting for Hurley to be "Jacob", and I was so happy that my wish came true. :) I adored the Locke and Ben resolution, although it seemed very out of character for Ben. I really liked seeing Sayid and Shannon together, but I was wondering where Nadia was. Maybe since she was dead in real time she couldn't come?

I'm sorry for intruding on all the Lost-love here. Just... need let this out, and then that's it.

The finale infuriated me. The sheer... Man, I don't even know.
So, they're dead. Since when? Were they dead in the alt. reality in the beginning of season 6? So, the whole alt. stuff was just a form of the afterlife? WTH? Then Jack's son is what? I mean, really? And... they only realized they were dead when they encountered someone from their former life? Riiiggghhhttt. ...or is there some explanation I'm missing?

Whattheheck IS the island? Just some random rock that hapens to have some electromagnetic energy that must be protected? Is that it? Really? That explains why it moves. Why it time-travels. Why women can't get pregnant. Why people get healed. Really?

*sigh* I'll stop. But... man.

I'm with you TT. The alternate reality was quite confusing.. I'm not sure what the whole "It's a place you all made so that you can be together" thing.. because why did it first look like they were re-living their life? Just to realise they were dead? And I'm not satisfied with the ending for the island either. Nothing much has been explained, just that Jacob let people come over there (and kill eachother half of the time) just to find a successor? I really wished to know more about the time-travel and baby-stuff..

I do not like that we do not know what happens with Frank, Miles, Richard, Kate, Claire and Sawyer.. They just lived happily ever after, after those traumatic events and then to be welcomed in the moving-on place by all those that died?

I'm just glad that all Kate and Kack, and Sawyer and Juliet were together at the end. But why weren't Frank, Miles, Charlotte and Daniel not there?

I think that instead of answering all our questions the final episode created even more questions..

Yes! That would have been the prefect ending for me as well..! :)

^ Same here. So much of the over-arching story line was whether they belong on the island or not. It would have been appropriate, I think, to finally resolve that.

I like this... it makes about as much sense as anything else. :P Still, I find it hard to believe that all the complexities of LOST-- the detailed back-stories, the others, the hatch, time-travel, alternate reality, mystical, immortal guardians of a magical island-- were all imagined in a few short seconds! Clearly Jack is way more creative than we ever gave him credit for. :teehee:

But the "It was all a dream" concept seems like such an easy way out for the writers. What, they couldn't think of a real explanation for all the usual happenings?

Or they just wanted to seriously screw up the watcher's heads and see what wacky ideas we would invent to explain the end.

...I was...cruel? All I did was state my opinion on the whole 'triangle' thing. I'm sorry things didn't go the way you wanted them too. But the fact of the matter is Jack and Kate were destined to be together.

Sort of related but, I read somewhere [forgot where now] that Jack & Kate had no chemistry or passion. I about spat my pepsi all over the screen. There kisses and little moments of intimacy left me wishing I had AC. Now...just for the record this is not me saying Kate/Sawyer had no chemistry, they did. Very much so, which made the whole triangle work and Kate really annoyed me at times. Kate and Sawyers chemistry was a purely physical one imo. There was love, but not the love either of them needed.

Back to the show in general. I watched the repeat on Sky1 last night, just to make sure I wasn't on a high from having no sleep and staying up to 5am to watch. It only doubly confirmed how much I loved the episode.

It was beautiful, touching, funny, sad and I cried like a baby. Michael Giacchino's score was just simply stunning and really added to the atmosphere. The whole look of the episode was gorgeous.

I'm going to miss this show SO much.

Anyway..onto something a little more happy?
Anyone else see the Jimmy Kimmel special?

It was just the way you stated things a little harshly that shook me up. I'm sorry I took that so hard. Yeah, Jate did have some pretty darn cute moments throughout the show; heck, even I liked the awkward yet smexy "caught in a net" scene! :-P

I agree with you on the Skate "love but not quite what they needed" thing. When people say that all they had was pure physical lust, I tend to get a little mad. They definitely had love for each other. (The look on Sawyer's face when he saw that Kate was safe in season 3, Kate's determination to stay by Sawyer's side when he was sick, Sawyer's jump from the helicopter to make sure that Kate got off the Island.) It was very different from Jate and Suliet, which was more wholesome, but Sawyer and Kate's love began the healing process for both of them. I think Kate was Sawyer's first real love (he said he'd never been in love, then after Cage!Scene told Kate he loved her), although Juliet was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Sawyer helped Kate realize she was not alone, and they had the chance to work together as broken equals. Their love helped them grow, and what they had was beautiful while it lasted. Jate and Suliet were destined, I suppose, but Skate was important, too. :-D

No! How did that go? I wanted to stay up, but I was dead tired and emotionally drained. Oh, and there was school the next day. :-P

I'm sorry too. I just got caught up in the moment. Either way it had've went I'd still have been happy. As much as I love Jate, if Lindelof & Cuse decided to do an about turn and make the ending Kate & Sawyer I'd have accepted it.

But I like how you put it. It wasn't only physical. But the biggest part of it was. But that was not what the other needed, perhaps at the time they did. But then feelings were being confused and what not. It was annoying as hell to see Kate jump from one guy to the other and back again. But she's only human and as such is just as fallable as anyone. It just took her time with Jack off-island to realise that he was exactly what she wanted and needed. Same with Juliet & Sawyer. Juliet was perfect for him in the sense she really didn't take his BS and was always very straight with him and I loved how even though she helped him mature and be the good guy he always sought to be, the heart of Sawyer was still there. The snarky wisecracker.

The JKL show was pretty good. Michael Emmerson is hella funny. If you want to watch it, it's up in parts on Jimmy Kimmels YouTube page. It's hard to work out what part to watch first as it's not numbered apart from the Q&A session. So start with Matthew Fox then Michael Emmerson and Terry O'Quinn, then Naveen/Emilie/Daniel then lastly Nestor/Jeremy/Alan/Harrold. Also to sate your Josh Holloway love, there's a great video from him that had me LOLing my head off. I <3 him lol

One last thing XD

The Island was not Jack's vision or dream upon dying. It was stated at least twice that what happened on the Island was all real. The only parts that were the waiting room or purgatory or whatever you want to call it, were the flash sideways events.

I watched Jimmy Kimmel, which was on after the finale and Matthew Fox, who plays Jack, said that in some religions people have to remember their life and all the people important in it and remember how they died in order to move on to the after life. I think this pretty much sums up the sideways. The losites had to remember before they could move on.

Christian also said that the church was there so they could all find each other. They were the most important people in each others live, they went through hell and back together. They needed each other to move on.

Some people were not in the church because they had done really bad things and were not ready to move on. This was made obvious by what Ben said to Locke (I still have things to do here). Also Walt could not be there obviously because the actor was waaaay older.

I have a question about something and I haven't been able to find the answer.

When the plane left, did any of the original passengers leave as well?

'Cos how would Frank and Co explain just them leaving and not the original un-Lost passengers?
