I can totally see Elrond prefoming the wedding.

Oh! I can definantly see that happening!!!It would be so sad! Then Elrond would be crying and Arwen would be crying and there would be hugs and kisses all around. I can just see Elrond and Arwen's faces...so very very bitersweet and sad.

^Sorry for my rambling, I like things to be very dramatic and sad.

I think that there would be a serious ceremony, Elrond would start crying and Glorfindel would have to silence him as his daughter looks at him in a very strange way. AS FOR THE Reception: Tons of food, tons of partying and laughter!

'nuff said

My idea of their wedding would be very serious. As for the reception, fun, and lots of laughter and merrymaking.

*laugh* That's funny........ I know what HaldirIthilien meant. If she had an Elvish style wedding, she would die happy.

My impression of The wedding would there would have to be a lot of singing and tears, most of the weeping done by Elrond, followed by a fancy meal and some dancing.

What your idea of it be?

I think mine is the same as yours only lesscrying but replaced with laughter and legolas standing there as his best man.

Okay. You want to know about elvish weddings? Here you go.

*sings the praises of her trusty copy of Morgoth's Ring*

Take note, this is what the Professor himself wrote, so there'll be no correcting' of his words, iffen ye please. ;)

The Eldar wedded for the most part in their youth and soon after their fiftieth year...

The Eldar wedded once only in life, and for love of for at least by free will upon either part.
Even when in after days, as the histories reveal many of the Eldar in Middle-earth became corrupted, and their hearts darkened by the shadow that lies upon Arda, seldom is any tale told of deeds of lust among them...
Marriage, save for rare ill chances or strange fates, was the natural course of life for all the Eldar. It took place in this way. Those who would afterwards become wedded might choose one another early in youth, even as children (and indeed this happened often in days of peace); but unless they desired soon to be married and were of fitting age, the betrothal awaited the judgment of the parents of either party.
In due time the betrothal was announced at a meeting of the two houses concerned, and the betrothed gave silver rings one to another. According to the laws of the Eldar this betrothal was bound then to stand for one year at least, and it often stood for longer. During this time it could be revoked by a public return of the rings, the rings then being molten and not again used for a betrothal. Such was the law; but the right of revoking was seldom used, for the Eldar do nor err lightly in such choice…

After the betrothal it was the part of the betrothed to appoint the time of their wedding, when at least one year had passed. Then at a feast, again shared by the two houses, the marriage was celebrated. At the end of the feast the betrothed stood forth, and the mother of the bride and the father of the bridegroom joined the hands of the pair and blessed them. For this blessing there was a solemn form, but no mortal has heard it; though the Eldar say that Varda was named in witness by the mother and Manwe by the father; and moreover that the name of Eru was spoken (as was seldom done at any other time). The betrothed then received back from one the other their silver rings (and treasured them); but they gave in exchange slender rings of gold, which were worn upon the index of the right hand…

But these ceremonies were not rites necessary to marriage; they were only a gracious mode by which the love of the parents was manifested, and the union was recognized which would join not only the betrothed but their two houses together…
In happy days and times of peace it was held ungracious and contemptuous of kin to forgo the ceremonies, but it was at all times lawful for any of the Eldar, both being unwed, to marry thus of free consent to one another without ceremony or witness (save blessings exchanged and the naming of the Name); and the union so joined was alike indissoluble. In days of old, in times of trouble, in flight and exile and wandering, such marriages were often made.

*pant pant*

So, I'm assuming that Aragorn and Arwen's marrige would have been something like that. :P

Thanks for that info Arsarniel! But, I thought I read about something different concerning Elvish marriage... hold on...

Ah here it is-

I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this. I'm just offering some different information on the matter. Once you click on the link, scroll down to where it says "Sex=Marriage, even on the run".

*I hope no one is offended by this.

Yeah, sorry, you're not in trouble, but I had to take out the link 'cause of AU's G rating that we try for. :confused2:

Well, I can tell you one thing though... that person is nuts! :P Most of the "quotes" he has in there have absolutely NOTHING to do with what he's trying for them to be...
For example, he to quote Tolkien here from the chapter "Laws and Customs of the Eldar," from Morgoth's Ring:

Quote:
"Marriage is chiefly of the body, for it is achieved by bodily union, and its first operation is the begetting of the bodies of children, even though it endures beyond this and has other operations. And the union of bodies in marriage is unique, and no other union resembles it."

All I can say is... what sad person is trying to re-write Tolkien's works? :rain: Tolkien said what is required with the elves for marriage, plus, if you read a little bit earlier in that same chapter you'll find that "Even when in after days, as the histories reveal, many of the Eldar in Middle-earth became corrupted, and their hearts darkened by the shadow that lies upon Arda, seldom is any talke told of deeds of lust among them."
He trys to prove his ideas further by saying: "Then again, Tolkien does mention that Celeborn was "the lover of Galadriel, who she later wedded." "
Umm... since when did the word "lover" mean only two people having relations? Last time I checked, the archaic (and true, if you ask me) meaning of the word means two people in love!

I just see it as someone trying to read their wishing for Tolkien to say what they want... I mean, Androgynous elves... So, a woman being able to be strong, and a man being able to bake bread = androgynous elves?
Ooohhh, that was rich. :roflmao:

Glad I'm not in trouble, and thank you for clarifying all of that Arsarniel! I was really not sure what was correct. :P

^lol, you'd have to read the rest of the article that I posted [or you could look up "androgynous"], to understand. But the link has been deleted as to keep the G rating on this forum. It was rather silly anyway...
