I read The Hobbit year ago so I have all scenes in my head ^^ But I will reread it before movie came out. But this is discussion is going in wrong direction. ^^ Let me just tell that I love the fight with the spiders as well as the ending of the book.

My favorite parts were Bilbo's meeting with Gollum and the following riddle-game, and Bilbo's meeting and chat with Smaug. Especially the part where he tries to please Smaug by giving him all those ridiculously flattering names, and Smaug reacts all self-centered and flattered

Smaug, like all dragons, is very easy to distract with nice words

It's my favourite bit because Tolkien describes it so beautifully and I almost feel like I'm up there with the Black moths and Bilbo when I read it. Totally agree. But I think my favorite part is Riddles in the Dark, because it's so classic, and because some of the riddles are really quite beautiful and poetic. I think it also is great story-telling, like the way he describes how scared and just plain freaked out Bilbo was to have Gollum sitting next to him on the beach. I also love The Unexpected Party, and the Mirkwood elves, and Smaug, and... well, obviously I'm not so good at picking one favorite. This is awesome, too though! SO hard to pick!

I love the scene when Bilbo climbs the tree in Mirkwood. (I think that's everybody's favorite) My second favorite scene is when Thorin and his company comes to meet their Burgler. And Gandalf is great in that one.

My favourite parts are: An Unexpected Party (because Bilbo gets all flustered and it is really fun to read ) Roast Mutton (because of the way Gandalf keeps the trolls arguing; their stupidity is really enjoyable) Riddles in the Dark (because Gollum and the caves are so dark and sinister it holds you spellbound) A Thief in the Night (because Bilbo acts so wisely and courageously to try and avoid war)

My favourite bit in the book has got to be when Bilbo was sneaking around the Woodland Realm. I always have liked it. It's funny, because elves are supposed to be so magical, see and know everything, yet a small hobbit is able to creep around their realm, and nobody has a clue. Especially how well guarded it is.
I think when Bilbo breaks them out, all of the dwarves fully realise what Bilbo is capable of. Especially that he could make it away from the spiders unlike them, but also break them out undetected.

One of my favorite parts of the Hobbit is actually the bit after they pass through goblin town and Gandalf is throwing the fire at the wolves. I like how he made the fire "fire works" kind of and all the different colors.
It's also enough action to keep attention well, a little suspense with the goblins coming, and yet not too much so you are worried about the characters too terribly much... until the fire starts and all that... lol but then I would have to go on describing half the book no?

I love the scene when the dwarfs and Gandalf went Rivendell from the hidden passage and all the scenes there. And the white council. Because i love everything about the elves, and i love so much Elrond and Galadriel.
