Hi guys :bye2: I just wanted to know if we could have some kind of team to sort of "liven up" some certain sections, like for instance, the RPG section.
I haven't really been here a lot, but I think it would be nice to start everything up again

P.S. Regarding Elrond's Library, what's all that about and it's not active either..

Elrond's Library is the archive section, where threads that aren't active anymore are placed.

Livening up the forum is a good idea, but a lot of people are busy with RL, so it's hard to say what could be done. I think the best thing to do is just to post and start interesting discussions so that there's something to talk about :)

How do you increase star ratings? I can't find anywhere that tells me.

Here's the post from the FAQ (which stands for Frequently Asked Questions):

Why is a title like hobbit, dwarf, elf, etc. under my name?

This is your rank, based on the number of posts you have. The gold bars are associated with this rank. The only way you can increase your rank is by posting more (but we ask that you NOT post threads just to move up in the ranks). The ranks are as follows:

Movie Extra (1-25 posts)
Hobbit (25-50)
Dwarf (50-100)
Rider of Rohan (100-200)
Gondorian (200-400)
Dunadan (400-600)
Ent (600-800)
Half-elf (800-1000)
Elf (1000-1500)
Ringwraith (1500-2000)
Istari (2000-3000)
Balrog (3000-4000)
Maia (4000-5500)
Vala (5500-7000)
Tolkien Scholar (7000-9000)
Choose your own rank title! (9000+)

I hope this answers your question, and welcome to the boards, you may want to introduce yourself in the Prancing Pony. :welcome:

Other than an energetic post about renewal of this site on Facebook at the beginning of January by one person, there hasn't really been anything said of it since.

So... what are the chances? There are some amazing forum software out there these days, like all-in-one interactive main page/forum/chat/gallery formats. Hoping the heart and soul is there to make it happen.

I think the problem is that everyone's hands are tied until we get some sort of go ahead from mods or anyone else who has the power to actually let us change things. I am already 100% willing to start updating the main site news again - but I cannot physically do it until I get the instructions and access to it again. Until that happens I can't do that, nor can I access the official email that I was a helper with until someone helps me out with that. That's as far as I can go at the moment, aside from posting.

Most people can't do anything aside from posting in the forum parts because they don't have access to anything else. If a group of active members gained access, I'm sure we could do something about it at least, but until then, posting and being enthusiastic about a possible revival is the only thing we can really do.

Yes, I realise that. Nothing will change until the owner/admin does something to update, or quits paying the bills on hosting and domain name.. It is what it is, it is what it was, and it will be whatever it will be.

Or those who can access other things and have nothing to do with the owner gets around to checking back in, possibly recruiting others to take over their tasks if they're not available to perform them anymore. The owner wasn't involved last time either, and we managed to get a lot of new stuff going.

Yes, and since the site owner was absent then, and others who had the power engineered the 2011 reboot, it worked a bit, but there was a serious exodus in 2012-2013 of the veterans and those who had the reins. It is even more doutful they, who don't have anything but participation invested in the site, which they have clearly let go of (except Will, bless her!), will re-appear. I hope against hope that one or more do, but I myself, as a simple serf who has participated in this site quite heavily the last few years, don't put too much into it. Do what you can Belletrix, and hopefully it works it through.

Well, we did quite a lot in 2013 actually. We wrote several new character bios, updated the news relatively frequently, and I know other parts of the main forum was worked on too. Keeping a positive attitude is important I think while waiting in case someone comes around who can help with giving people access to the behind the scenes bits, because at least that shows people want to do something even if they aren't able to for the time being, and it's more likely to attract new members who might stumble across such threads as well if they feel there's hope for a revival because people want it and feel good about it rather than feeling like oh well, all hope is lost for this forum anyway so why bother becoming active or a member at all.
