^^ Agreed.
The Moria part, when the fellowship is reading that old book they found, and of course the whole Shelob's lair chapter are both very horrifying.

Quote: Is there any sequence that you find particularly frightening, thrilling, or suspenseful? On my first reading of the books....
- Frightening: In Moria when the Balrog was coming, I got the sense this was some ancient evil when Legolas cried in fear 'A Balrog of Morgoth'
- Thrilling: Battle of Helms Deep - Well described. Better than the Battle of Pelennor Fields in many ways, though Tolkien covered death in war better in Pelennor.
- Suspensful: The Paths of the Dead - It was just creepy, especially when they saw (who I presumed) Baldor in the cave. And the whole oathbreaking and the Stone of Erech and all.

^^ Agreed. Battle of Helms Deep is the most thrilling battle in Lotr. It should be on my list.

When Bilbo sees the Ring around Frodo's neck. I've seen it a hundred times and it still scares me. Lol!

@Elfqueen4-Yeah, that kind a scared me too when I first saw it. I was like "O.O!" I was a little suprised cause it seemed like a tad bit of horror in this non-horror movie. But it was perfect for the moment. ;D
The most frightening moment for me was actually when Galadriel lights up in the first movie and gives her "In place of a dark Lord you would have a queen!..." speech. That greenish difference effect on her was just kinda stressful to me the first time. :S It scared me, lol.

^^ Yep.. I screamed when I first saw the Bilbo-turning-into-gollum part.
(Btw.. should this be on the movies-section..?)

For me, it was definitely Weathertop. When I first read that sequence I was either breathing really hard or not breathing at all. I still automatically clutch my left shoulder when I reread or watch that scene.

I think all the battle scenes are theilling (a guy thing perhaps) but I think the parts where it focuses on a characters death/ near death is suspensfull like when frodo is dying from being stabbes at weather top.

I thought the Fellowship heading towards the Bridge of Khazad-dum was scary. The music added to that sense and when the path started to crumble I got a feeling of despair.
Another part I found scary was when the Hobbits were hiding under the tree roots and the Nazgul was just inches away from them.
Hmmm,,,this is book discussion, isn't it?

Yeah, I forget about that a lot and mix and match things from the movies and books. No worries though!
