That's what bothers me about it--it's too much of an easy read. I like a book that makes me go slower (I can finish the hobbit in an hour and a half to two hours, at least last time, but now I read even faster).

A book can't be too easy. I read children's books all the time, cause they're so cute and easy to read. And I'm one who reads a lot, heavy books as well. It's all about enjoying what you read even though you read it quickly
"... Legolas, a messenger from his father, Thranduil, the King of the Elves of Northern Mirkwood." The Council Of Elrond
Just to add a citation. This was not the case when Tolkien wrote The Hobbit however, from an external standpoint. There was no Legolas of Greewood/Mirkwood as yet. Tolkien had used Legolas as a name in his early Fall of Gondolin however [see The Book of Lost Tales II], for a Noldo/Gnome with impressive sight.
There was also Gimli the Noldo/Gnome in early texts!
