Hey kids! Yes, I'm back, but I don't know for how long. It's not likely that I'm going to be going back to banner making due to lack of interest, and also because I believe there are a good deal of fine graphic makers on this forum, and there doesn't seem to be a need for more. Anywho, I am happy to announce that I am back to post art! I'll gradually keep posting works as I complete work. Comments and critique are welcome. Thanks!

I'm so happy to have you back with us ~Twippo! And I'm sorry to hear that you've chosen to retire from graphics making, I felt that you brought a good different style the banners. :D

Anyways. All I have to say on the artwork is AMAZING! Absolutely amazing!

The hair is BEAUTIFULLY done. How do you get the highlights to contrast that well to the strands? And how is it that you can make out every single strand of hair? The face blending couldn't be any better!!! How one earth can you achiece the smoothness of that!?! [jealous]

I can't imagine how breathtaking it'd look in person!

Great job! [onceagain] ~Twippo!

Thanks Kitoky! It feels good to be back! Even though I probably won't be on as often as I was before, it'll be nice to pop on now and then.

For the hair, I followed the general shapes on the reference picture and layered on graphite continuously to get darker and darker shades. The details of the hair were done using a mechanical pencil, you know how it's very crisp and clear, just make sure you don't blend it. As for the smoothness, it's partly due to the type of paper, as I find that pretty important. I used smooth Bristol paper, a bit on the pricey side, but of course I didn't start like that. ;)

[takes notes]

Okay wait..[scratches head]...
Ah...When you say 'layered on graphite' do you mean, using value pencils? Or...mechanical pencils? [scratches] I'm confused.

Well, I use these DerWent graphite pencils, for this picture B-4B, and I just keep adding on layers of graphites, following the direction the hair grows always. I used the drawing pencils for the main part of the hair, although I think I should have used mechanical pencil, and I used mechanical pencil for the strands. And generally there should be "shapes" in the hair that you can spot and replicate, but still following the direction of hair growth is a must.

Oh yes! You can also use cotton swabs and the like to blend and smooth the drawing, if you want.

Thanks for the kind words Gilraen! But I think anyone has the capacity to draw, it takes practice and patience, as well as the willpower to do your very best. As an artist, I always strive to do better on every drawing, convincing myself every drawing that it's going to be better than the ones before, and that really pushes me to improve.

Well, that's something! I never thought about using cotton swabs, I'll certainly try that, thanks for the tip. :)

Hey LOTRFreak13! Long time no see! It was fun doing graphics for a while, but I grew tired of it quickly, and soon it wasn't enjoyable to me anymore, doing the same stuff over again and there didn't seem to be a point if I didn't like doing it. But you guys are getting too good! ;) I saw some of your work and you've improved tremendously!

In other news, I'm posting an older drawing of mine: the one and only Marilyn. Yup, it seems kind of dirty but that's just my pooped-up scanner. *shakes fist at dang scanner* But I post it anyways, enjoy!

Thank you! It takes a great deal of patience and practice to become proficient at drawing. I didn't always draw like this, though. Two years ago I drew some LOTR sketches and they looked like alien mutants. :O I mean, terrible. Eventually I developed my own style that I liked, and practiced with it, and several drawings and two years later, here's where I am now! To anyone who thinks that you'll never be able to draw like this, think again! It took me a great deal of willpower to get this far, and hey, if I can do it, you can too!
