This is a thread to discuss covers and remakes of songs... well by remake I mean about the older songs..or well there is no difference. for example darn Limb Bizkit managed to screw up Behind Blue Eyes song(in other words they should have never ever played it in the first place), which is originally The Who`s. Any other thoughts about covers? Positive or negative?

Heart-Shaped Box - originally by Nirvana [Kurt <3]; remake by Evanescenc e... Amy has a beautiful voice but somehow she´s not .. suitable for this song.
Curu - hmm, Limp Bizkit are imo okay, but I´ve never heard the original one..
Oh, is the song "High Hopes" originally by Nightwish or Pink Floyd? Cause i´ve hard it perfomed by both, that´s it...

High Hopes i think was a Floyd track originaly, considering they hardly ever covered songs.
I've heard Dream Theater cover some Metallica stuff like Battery and Master Of Pupets. They also have done some Floyd like In The Flesh and Hey You. All were musically ok but the vocals were really off putting.
George Thorogood has made a living covering songs. He rarely writes his own but he does excelent versions.
Oasis do good covers of My Generation by The Who and I Am The Warlus by The Beatles.

Nothing else matters - originally by Metallica; remake by Lucy Silvans.
I prefer the Metallica version...

I usually don't like remakes or covers but one song that is like 100 times better than the original and past remakes would be "Diamonds And Rust" - Blackmore's Night (originally by Joan Baez, later covered by Judas Priest). Blackmore's Night really make it their own and gives it a renaissance/folk touch that is just outstanding!

I know Metallica covered Whisky In The Jar which was done by Thin Lizzy who got the song from an Irish Folk Song. To be honest i prefer the folk version

High Hopes is from Pink Floyd and though I like Nightwish's version I still prefere pink floyd's version.
I think Alien at farm did a cover of Michael's Jackson's Smooth Criminal.
I like both versions: Jackson's version because of his voice and Alien at farm's version because of the power that the song has as a rock song.

lol yeah as much as I liked there version, James singing "the Cork and Kerry mountains" just doesn't ring true
Nevermore do a cover of Simon & Garfunkles The Sound of Silence and I never even knew until recently lol
Warrels voice sings it with so much power and emotion. Awesome stuff.

Another one I like is Anthrax's cover of Remember Tomorrow by Maiden.
Top Notch.
They also did a cover of Parasite by KISS which is really good too.

I don't like Motley Crue's cover of Helter Skelter, much prefer the Beatles version.

This weeks Kerrap magazine has a free cd with various bands doing Metallica covers.
Only 3 make decent versions: Machine Head, Trivium & Mastadon.
Bullet for my Valentine, Fight Star and others I forgot the names of just made me want to rip my ears off.

I believe JET's "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" is a remake. At least, that's what my dad said...whatever it is, it rocks!
