Alright, i did some work on this and prepared a bundle of lyrics that can be heard in the frst movie of our beloved triology. This is a very good follow-up for all those that got the FOTR Complete Recordings album but also it can be used by those who have the original OST's. Some of these lyrics can already be seen on A-U but some are fresh new

FOOTSTEPS OF DOOM

Man sí minna?
Man ammen toltha i dann hen Amarth?

Who enters here?
Who brings to us this token of Doom?
That which has stood so long against the darkness
will now fall.

We are the Nine,
The Lords of Unending Life.

THE ROAD GOES EVER ON [EXCERPT]
Lyrics by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.

DRINKING SONG

Lyrics from J.R.R. Tolkien
Adapted by FranWalsh & Philippa Boyens

Hey ho! To the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe
Rain may fall and wind may blow
But there still be
Many miles to go
Sweet is the sound of the pouring rain
And the stream that falls
From hill to plain
Better than rain or rippling brook
Is a mug of beer inside this Took

THE PASSING OF THE ELVES known as THE ELVISH LAMENT
Text by J.R.R. Tolkien
Sindarin Translation by David Salo

Fanuilos heryn aglar
Rîn athar annún-aearath,
Calad ammen i reniar
Mi ‘aladhremmin ennorath!
A Elbereth Gilthoniel

Cenim lyth thílyn thuiennin.
A Elbereth Gilthoniel
Men echenim sí derthiel
Ne chaered hen nu ‘aladhath
Ngilith or annún-aearath.

Snow-white! Snow-white! O Lady clear!
O Queen beyond the Western Seas!
O Light to us that wander there
Amid the world of woven trees!
Gilthoniel! O Elbereth!
Clear are thy eyes and bright is breath,
Snow-white! Snow-white! We sing to thee
In a far land beyond the Sea!
O Stars that in the Sunless Year
With shining hand by thee were sown,
In windy fields now bright and clear
We see your silver blossom blown!
O Elbereth Gilthoniel!
We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees,
Thy starlight on the Western Seas.

In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

About him cast her shadowy hair
And arms like silver glimmering.

O Elbereth Star-kindler

From heaven the glory of the stars.
After gazing afar into the distance
From tree-tangled Middle-earth
Snow-white, I sing to you
Beyond the sea, here beyond the great sea.

Little boy, little one
Night is falling.
Come into my arms,
Let me hold you safe
But still you run
hrough the twilight,
Lost in your play
Slaying demons in the shadows.
Little boy, little one,
Full of grace full of joy,
Oh, my heart will break,
For I see in your eyes:
You are your father’s son,
Not your mother’s child.

THE SEDUCTION OF THE RING

Text from J. R. R. Tolkien
Quenya Translation by David Salo

I tuo, i macil –
Astaldaron mauri.
Nai corma macilya
A lelyat túrenna!

The strength, the weapon –
The needs of the valiant.
Be the ring your weapon
Go to victory!

GANDALF AT THE DOOR TO MORIA
Text by Philippa Boyens

Such terrible beauty
Such burning desire

DURIN’S SONG
Text by Philippa Boyens
Khuzdűl Translation by David Salo

Durin ku bin-amrad
Ugmal sullu addad
Ku bakana
Ana aznân
Undu abad
Ku ganaga
Tur ganâd abanul
Durin ku bin-amrad
Uzbad Khazad-dűmu
Ku baraka
Aznân
ra karaka
atkât
ala lukhudizu!
ala galabizu!
ala ukratizu!
Khazad-dűm!

Durin who is Deathless
Eldest of all Fathers
Who awoke
To darkness
Beneath the mountain
Who walked alone
Through halls of stone
Durin who is Deathless
Lord of Khazad-dűm
Who cleaved
The Dark
And broke
The silence
This is your light!
This is your word!
This is your glory!
The Dwarrowdelf of Khazad-dűm!

THE BALROG
Text by Philippa Boyens
Khuzdűl Translation by David Salo

Ubzar ni kâmin
Aznân taburrudi
Iklal tanzifi bashukimâ
Ubzar ni kâmin
gilim Sanzigil
shakar ra udlag
Ubzar ni kâmin
Tada aklat gagin
Ugrűd tashurrukimâ.
Maku kataklutimâ?
Askad gabil
Tashfati ni azanân
Kâmin takalladi!
Tabriki! Takarraki!
Maku zatansasimâ?
Urus!
Urus ni buzra!
Arrâs talbabi fillumâ!
Ugrűd tashniki kurdumâ!
Lu! Lu! Lu!
Urkhas tanakhi!

Deeper into the earth.
The dark grows heavy.
Cold snaps our bones.
Deeper into the earth.
There, the glint of Mithril
sharp and far away.
Deeper into the earth.
That sound again
Dread surrounds us.
Can no one hear us?
A great shadow
Moves in the dark.
The earth shakes!
Cracks! Splits!
Will no one save us?!
Fire!
Fire in the deep!
Flames lick our skin!
Fear rips our heart!
No! No! No!
The demon comes!

LAMENT FOR GANDALF
Words and Music by Philippa Boyens and Howard Shore
Quenya and Sindarin Translation by David Salo

Verse 1: Quenya
A Olórin i yáresse
Mentaner i Númeherui
Tírien i Rómenóri
Maiaron i Oiosaila
Manan elye etevanne
Nórie i melanelye?

O Olórin whom in time past
The West-lords sent
To guard the East-lands
Of Maiar, the Ever-wise
Why did you depart from
A country which you loved?

Verses 2 and 3: Sindarin
Mithrandir, Mithrandir, A Randir Vithren
ú-reniathach i amar galen
I reniad lín ne môr, nuithannen
In gwidh ristennin, i fae narchannen
I lach Anor ed ardhon gwannen
Calad veleg, ethuiannen.

Mithrandir, Mithrandir O pilgrim grey
You will not wander the green earth
Your journey in darkness, ended.
The bonds cut, the spirit rent
The Flame of Anor from earth departed
A great light, blown out.

LAMENT FOR GANDALF (CHORUS TEXT)
Words and Music by Philippa Boyens and Howard Shore
Quenya Translation by David Salo

Melmelma nóren sina
Núra lá earo núri
Ilfirin nairelma
Ananta ilyar eccatuvalme
Ar ullume nucuvalme:
Nauva i nauva.

Our love for this land
Is deeper than the deeps of the sea
Our regret is undying
Yet we will cast all away
Rather than submit
What should be shall be.

GALADRIEL’S SONG

Text from J.R.R. Tolkien
Adapted by Philippa Boyens
Quenya Translation by David Salo

Cenin i Herumor
Sámarya hanyenye
Oio mahta-mahtala
Cenien sanwenya
Ananta...
Pahta i ando!
Ela i cále!
Nenya sina
Corma úhátima
I haryanye.

I perceive the Dark Lord
I comprehend his mind
Ever groping
To see my thought
But still...
the door is closed!
Behold the light!
Nenya is this
Ring, unbreakable
That I possess.

NAMÁRIË (EXCERPT)
English and Quenya Texts by J.R.R. Tolkien

Ai! laurië lantar lassi súrinen,
yéni únótimë ve rámar aldaron!
Yéni ve lintë yuldar avánier
mi oromardi lissë-miruvóreva
Andúnë pella, Vardo tellumar
nu luini yassen tintilar i eleni
ómaryo airetári-lírinen.
Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva?
An sí Tintallë Varda Oiolossëo
ve fanyar máryat Elentári ortanë
ar ilyë tier undulávë lumbulë
ar sindanóriello caita mornië
i falmalinnar imbë met,
ar hísië untúpa Calaciryo míri oialë.
Sí vanwa ná, Rómello vanwa, Valimar!
Namárië! Nai hiruvalyë Valimar!
Nai elyë hiruva! Namárië!

Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind,
long years numberless as the wings of trees!
The long years have passed like swift draughts
of the sweet mead in lofty halls
beyond the West, beneath the blue vaults of Varda
wherein the stars tremble
in the voice of her song, holy and queenly.
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
For now the Kindler, Varda, the Queen of the stars,
from Mount Everwhite has uplifted her hands like clouds
and all paths are drowned deep in shadow;
and out of a grey country darkness lies
on the foaming waves between us,
and mist covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever.
Now lost, lost to those of the East is Valimar!
Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar!
Maybe even thou shalt find it! Farewell!

ELESSAR’S OATH
English and Quenya Text by J.R.R. Tolkien

Et Eärello Endorenna utúlien.
Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn’
Ambar-metta!

Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come.
In this place I will abide, and my heirs, unto the ending
of the world!

THE DEATH OF BOROMIR
PART ONE
Text by J. R. R. Tolkien
Sindarin Translation by David Salo

Ú-velin i vegil an eigas
Egor i bilin a linnas
Egor i vaethor an aglar
Melin i mar i beriar.

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness
Nor the arrow for its swiftness
Nor the Warrior for his glory
I love the homeland which they defend.

PART TWO
Text by Philippa Boyens
Quenya Translation by David Salo

I alda helda, i ehtele lína
Manna lelyalye Voromírë?
Cánalya hlarula, la hirimmel
Fuinë lanta Pelendoro nandesse
Sí massë i Anar?

The tree is bare, the fountain still.
Whither goest thou Boromir?
We heard your call but cannot find you.
Darkness falls upon the vale of Pelennor
Where now is the sun?

Hopefully this will make it to a sticky post and even to the main page ;)

Cheers!

Once again, very impressive. :)

I've been searching far and wide for the FotR EE soundtrack, but will keep looking for sure.

Thanks for posting this, Aemor! :D

The road goes ever on is longer though isn't it? It goes:

THE ROAD GOES EVER ON [EXCERPT]
Lyrics by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,

Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Although I don't know if it's all sung in the film :) I hope you don't think I'm rude for saying that.
EB.

Like the title says, the song is only an excerpt of the longer song you have written down. All the above mentioned lyrics are heard in the movies ;)

And no, you're not rude in any way. Im glad people notice these kinds of things!

Oh, thank you! That's wonderful. The only thing I might suggest is that you tell us about where on the soundtracks these things are played?

"I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness
Nor the arrow for its swiftness
Nor the Warrior for his glory
I love the homeland which they defend."
That's my very favorite book quote- I'm glad it made it into the movie.

I can't find these lyrics in many of the songs! That's so frustrating, hehehe.

The TTT Extended Edition soundtrack is not even on the market yet, I still have no idea when it will be though. All we can do now is wait...

This is awesome!! Is it safe to assume that you can use these lyrics to follow along with the movies? (doesn't have the EE soundtrack but keeps hoping)
