But it lacks wordssss! And ease in learning, but the latter doesnt count here... I wish old Tolkien had made a little more effort in the vocabulary section. I feel... uncomfortable using loan-words and foreignisms.

I think he put plenty of effort in; he wasn't working on a 'mature' version of a language, constantly adding new words to the corpus, but rather changing his idea of a language over time, having Goldogrin, then Noldorin, and finally Sindarin. He made many Qenya and Goldogrin words, though they aren't "canon" and aren't considered in the mythos.

True, it does sound much cooler. But I'm just thinking of what lotr fans re going to be like in the future. I mean how often do people get piked on for speaking klingon, it probably will be the same for elvish. Although it is much cultured, speaking elvish will most probably become as much as a butt of a joke as Klingon

:annoyed: absolutly no way! So much of the books has cool lvish and it wouldn't be LOTR without it! It's worth lurning it - awsome language and only good one worth knowing in my opinion!

I most definitely agree! My friends have given me odd looks and called my learning it "worthless" because "it's not a real language" but I don't care. Besides which, I figure that this way I can learn to insult people and they won't know it! :) :P

Yes a very good point Anie... I've mastered most of the insults already... very handy when you're mad at a sib or such and don't want your parents to know what you're saying. haha

Most true Ringers are already made fun of/luaghed at cause they're so obcessive so what's the big deal? Who cares anyways? Just one more thing to add to our intense fandom! =P

I have been trying to learn it forever. It is really hard with no one to learn with, only two of my freinds like LotR.

I keep eyeing this topic and wanting to write something but I've been too lazy  it's time I actually say something. ELVISH ROCKS!!! There nuff said.

Ok anyway when I mention to people that I study Sindarin/Elvish I usually get one of two responses 1. Oh thats cool! (usually from the anime group in my Japanese Class) 2. *lifting of eyebrows* why?

Well from a personal standpoint I love studying the Eldarin Languages for the same reason Tolkien created them...pure enjoyment. Also in the last 2 1/2 years sence I started I have learned more about linguistics and the nature of language than I have from all of my English, German, Japanese, Linguistics, and History classes combined :-D

Elvish is definitely NOT worthless. Both Quenya and Sindarin are such cool languages. I'd love to learn them, but at the moment I just don't have the time. All my friends and my family think I'm crazy, because I want to learn it.

Elvish rocks. It sounds a lot better than English, though it can get confusing.

Elvish is not worthless! It may be useless in the sence that very few people can actually speak it, but learning another language is good exercise for the brain. Not only that, but you learn inner strength by fighting off the bullies that tease you for knowing elvish!

I actually incorporated several sentences in Sindarin into a school assignment today. :-D
