Definitely meant as a compliment... though now that I reread my post I have to say it came out quite differently. Being a Brit definitely isn't half bad or the worse for wear.

I actually don't mind becoming a British. I don't think it is all that bad.

Would you agree with me that the favourite [note British spelling] small talk topic of the honourable [note British spelling] Britons is the weather?
Perhaps, although we usually engage in such a topic if the conversation is lacking. I believe it is another misconception, rather like the fact that we have afternoon tea at around three. I personally know no one who takes part in such an activity.

*drinks afternoon tea with her lonely self*
Well, the weather is such a harmless though omni-affecting (<--made up word) thing that it qualifies for a good small talk topic. I believe small talk is important for paving the road for any 'real' and deeper convaersations... even in England!

ah yes, the excruciating ritual that is small talk.
i do find myself talking about the weather a lot - since i moved up north for uni, that mainly means complaining about how cold and rainy yorkshire is (though don't get me wrong, i absolutely adore yorkshire). it's the sort of non-offensive thing you can say to anyone.
oh, and i love your new word, eä. omniaffecting...great neologism.

I heard many positive things about Yorkshire... perhaps partly romantised by litterature and movies..? I believe the weather always will be important as a small talk topic whenever the weather is subject to change over the seasons. Weather just seems to influence us in many ways.

I had a teacher from Yorkshire...baaaaaad..
I guess you have to reach a certain age to refer to weather for small talk. We just flit from films to ice cream to football and if we're still awake, more football.

Hey everyone!
With the Ashes... I know I made everyone feel bad before when we won 3-0, but now i pity you. 5-0. It's very sad. Sorry. It is.
You'll do better next time.
*runs away from angry british cricket fanatics*
Anyway, what's happening in England? Any strange weather at all? Is it cold? Oooh, I'd love to be in England in winter. Does it snow a lot?
I love asking questions.

And after all, that's all that matters I don't really follow cricket, but I gather from the TV and newspaper that we got OWNED.
We haven't had snow this year...just lots of ice and freezing wind

Mel, it rarely ever snows here, and if it does, the snow is cruddy.

I'm not british (unfortunately) but I'd really love to join, since I love everything that sounds, smells or looks british or even comes from there
May I join?

Sure you can! Although JF is the initiator... oh well. I'll welcome you unofficially anyway.
WELCOME!

...oh. Well, that's disappointing. Does it at least snow in the northern part of England?
Many people are surprised that it snows here in australia too. I mean we do have alps... but they're little hills compared to NZ or the european alps.

It snowed gorgeously (which...is totally a real word) in Ireland when I visited in the Christmas holidays. Really thick, white and fluffy
I want to live in Australia...*is jealous* It was mindnumbingly cold today.

Ooh.. it's always a chilly out during the winter, however as others have said we rarely get a good snow. *pouts* We haven't had a nice snow in a few years now.
