"How be ye, Jack Sparrow?" Barbossa's voice came from the back of the group.

Jack froze. He turned, and the crew members stepped aside ro reveal Jack's old enemy. Jack quickly forced a smile onto his face. "Barbossa!" he cried enthusiastically.

"Jack, Jack, get over here!" Barbossa responded with equal vigor.

"You old scoundrel!" Jack said, not coming any closer. "I haven't seen you in too long. Not since--"

"Isla de Muerta, remember?" Barbossa prompted. "You shot me!" He opened his shirt and pointed to a scar on his chest. "Right here! Lodged in my heart, it did."

Jack nodded, hiding his nervousness. "I remember," he said. "I wouldn't forget that!"

"We came to rescue you," Barbossa said. His eyes flicked to the Black Pearl. Noticing Barbossa's glance, Jack's expression shifted. He kept smiling, but his mind was working fast. He did not want to be indebted to this particular pirates. In fact, he did not want to be indebted to any of these would-be rescuers. He glanced at the ocean beside them, empty but for the Pearl and the wreckage of the Hai Peng.

"Did you now?" Jack said brighty. "How kind. But it would seem as I possess a ship and you don't, you're the ones in need of rescuing." He flipped his hands casually. "Not sure as I'm in the mood."

Barbossa pointed at the Pearl. "I see my ship right there," he said aggressively.

Jack squinted out to sea. He stood up on his toes and leaned from side to side as if searching for another ship. "Can't spot it," he said. "Must be hiding somewhere behind the Pearl."

Barbossa's face turned red with anger. He could play along with Jack's games for only so long.
