I'm BAAACCCKKKK!!!
Lovin' what everyone else has written
Wintersong is currently being evil and won't let me write it. Luckily, I've got a shiny new story idea! I started writing it yesterday, and so far, it's been going excellent.
I wish I had a title though.
Anyways, here's the idea. There is a lot of symbolism and deeper meaning behind the story-you'd have to be familiar with Greek and Roman mythology, name meanings, and astrology. I love putting in symbolism.
Before I get anymore off track:
The story is about Aisling, a 17 year old high school student. She has a dream of the world being destroyed (how unique. *snorts*).
Well, then her friend Ava gives her a book with no title, which starts the adventure. When Aisling begins to read it, she falls asleep. This leads to her "dream self" or "illusory self" (I think I like the second one better ) being separated from her "real self". Her illusory self is sent to her dream version of outer space-specifically, Neptune, the ruling planet of her star sign, Pisces, and her favorite of the nine planets. (I refuse to stop recognizing Pluto as a planet). There she meets Daiki, who fills the classical role of mentor.
Daiki tells her that to stop the world from being destroyed, she must reverse the mistakes that her great-great-great etc. grandmother (I'm not sure how far ago I want her yet) caused to set the world on this path. So, Aisling's given a list of items she must attain, each of them corresponding to a planet, constellation, or moon in classical Greek or Roman mythology. She is given the title of "Seeker".
Along the way, Aisling joins up with several other Seekers, making her task easier, since the items aren't easy to get.
And...that's all I'll share. I know how it ends and most of what happens in between (well, as far as major events go) but I don't want to give away the whole story yet XD
Here is my final list of the items, what they represent, where they come from, and, in some cases, their role.
Planetary Items
Mercury - Quill (Communication)
Venus - Armor (War, wisdom-wise)
Earth - Branch (Ummm...Earth?) (I couldn't think of anything better. Earth is Earth.)
Mars - Sword (War, fighting-wise)
Jupiter - Staff (Leadership, Power)
Saturn - Scythe (Harvest) (A scythe is used in harvesting)
Uranus - Crown (Rulership, Leadership) (Uranus was the leader of the gods until he was overthrown and replaced by Jupiter)
Neptune - Triton (Sea) (Because he's always associated with a triton.)
Pluto - Casket (Death) also, a boat (representative of the boat in Greek mythology that ferried the newly-dead to Hades. I put this in as a means of transportation for Aisling & co. Otherwise, it isn't really needed)
Constellation Items
Lyra - Harp (Music)
Orion - Horn (Hunting)
Andromeda - Chain (Imprisonment)
Cygnus - Feather (Swan, or birds in general, also, air or wind)
Auriga - Wheel (Transportation, Chariot to be specific)
Moon Items
Moon (Earth) - Orb (Power) (The orb is representative of power, and the moon almost always has an important influence in mythology alongside the sun. This is also why we see Kings and Queens holding orbs.)
Naiad - Mirror (Illusion, Dreams, Reflection) (Naiad is one of Neptune's moons. Neptune rules the House of the Unconscious, Pisces' House, in astrology. Pisces is strongly associated with dreams and illusion. Neptune is considered the "great trickster" along with the dream thing. The unconscious mind can be associated with a higher platform of spirituality, or being able to perceive illusion when it comes. That's an explanation of why I chose a mirror. A la Sailor Neptune, but I didn't intend that.)
Any thoughts?
Also, I know that astrology is considered a load of nonsense by some people, but I still find it interesting.

Here is something I wrote during lunch last week......
CHAPTER 1
Edward rode atop his large, red dragon over the field, soiled with crimson blood. Looking down across the meadow he glanced upon his friend,Sam. He dove down and landed on the blood stained grass. He strode through the hundreds of rotting corpses of the slain soldiers.
He walked up to Sam and saw him staring wide-eyed at a mound of freshly killed soldiers. Following Sam’s gaze,Edward, gasped at what he saw. Upon a heap of bodies was Bukama,Sam’s father, who was also a soldier in the war, with an enemy spear thrust through his armored chest. They quietly mourned whilst walking up to the mangled bodies and threw a torch upon the bodies for there burial. They walked back to their dragons without a sound and rode off into the distant sun.
there's still more I'm working on....

Ellethwen, I love your story idea. I think that could be a hugely popular novel. I've always been interested in mythology, and though I've never believed in astrology (I'm pisces, and I'm one of the most apathetic and uncreative people you'll meet), I find what you did with the blending of the ideas was genius. I can't wait to hear your story.

Haha, yeah, I posted a part about three chapters in. I'll pm you the prologue (which explains each of the characters) if you like. I'd post it, but it's kinda long.
Ok! I'll wait for it...

Ooh! Great writing everyone! All the members here are so talented!
Anyway, here's a little something I just wrote down. I call it "Stealthy Like Pigeons"
***
Three steps left, five steps forward, and nine steps right; it was hard work sticking to the shadows. It would have been impossible to most, considering the only shadows were cast by leaf-barren trees that were constantly being blown about in the autumn winds. But he wasn’t just anyone sneaking around in the dead of night. He was Brink Laylend. This was the sort of thing that he and the other members of his squad, Ebony and Dust, lived for. These particular teenagers were Secret Combatants. Well, Secret Combatants in training, to be exact.
But tonight their squad just wasn’t going to emerge victorious. Brink whirled about to face Ebony as she stepped on a miniscule twig, creating a small snapping sound. The tiny sound was quickly followed by a much louder thumping sound, and then a loud, echoing thud. Brink’s eyes grew wide as he looked past Ebony’s trembling frame, to where Dust laid sprawled out on the ground.
‘So they got him…’ thought Brink resentfully.
“C’mon, Ebony,” uttered Brink almost inaudibly into the night. “We can’t stay.”
“But,” said Ebony in a hushed tone, “What about Dust?”
“He’ll be fine,” Brink said turning around.
He hadn’t taken two steps when he heard another thump and thud. He turned around to see Ebony laying over Dust. She had tried to help him. While her intentions were honorable, even admirable, Brink had to marvel at her stupidity for going back against his own judgment.
With a mighty sigh, Brink turned around again only to have a tall, black haired man with black eyes staring straight into his own hazel eyes.
Whack!
The man smacked Brink on the side of the head.
“No, no, no!” he bellowed. “This exercise is all about stealth!”
Dust started to stir at the sound of raised voices, “Master Caige?”
Dust’s vision became clear just in time to witness Master Caige whack Brink again.
“You’re supposed to be stealthy!” screeched Master Caige at all three of his students. “Like pigeons! Remember! Stealthy like pigeons!”
***
BTW, I just couldn't stop myself from naming a charrie Brink, it just fit so nicely with the other characers' names.
What do you all think of their names? they aren't too weird, are they?

I like it. And I like the fact that one of the charries is named Ebony.
And I don't think names can be too out there. I like the names, personally.

This is the beginning of a movie script my friend and I are writing... questions are at the end, we're a bit confused and stuck.
The fun part is that we get to make her older brother roll down a sand dune...
Anyways,
Scene One:
:::Camera filming the dunes while narrator talks:::
Narrator: The Desert Ninjas. A name that sent shivers down anyone’s spine. A wandering group of men, dressed all in black, from their shoes to their masks, feared throughout the land. They never killed anyone, only traveled from place to place, always stopping and looking through the crowds of people, as if searching for something – or someone. :::Ninjas seen running across the dunes:::
Option 1: Cut to girl trudging up dune, singing to herself and glancing around warily.
Option 2: Girls making campfire/looking for wood. One hears something, climbs to top of small dune, etc… in this case we don’t need to know why the girls are out there – it could be any reason, it’s not really important for this one.
===============================================================
:::Ninjas come up on all sides of the dunes, bearing different sorts of larps:::
:::girl sees them and turns in all directions, terrified. Sees gap, turns and runs:::
:::Ninja’s leader chases after her, dashing down the dune. Ninja1 has 2 longer larps:::
:::Ninja1 falls down and tumbles down the side of the dune, losing a larp:::
:::Girl picks larp up and continues down towards Ninja1:::
:::Begin to larp:::
:::Ninja1 knocks larp out of girl’s hand and she falls down, trying to reach for the larp:::
:::Ninja1 sticks his larp under girl’s chin, and she turns to look at him, terror in her eyes:::
Ninja1: Get up.
:::moves larp, girl starts getting up, Ninja1 grabs her arm and helps her the rest of the way up. Motions for her to go up the dune:::
:::Girl dashes and tries to run away, but Ninja1 stops her:::
Ninja1: No way, you’re not going anywhere. :::half drags up dune, girl glaring all the way:::
:::Other ninjas waiting at the top of the dune,
We still need to know why the ninjas are chasing the girls…. I think so far our best idea is that they’re Ninja1’s lost sisters… but that seems kinda stupid.
But why else?
We’re not from Pluto or anything like that….

Maybe the girls took something from the ninjas, and they've been looking for the girls to retrive it?
And I'm back in the game! I've started writing again! This time it's about 3 sisters, Audrey, Nicole, and Claude Walker!

^ We've considered that... but we're the good guys... and we think that we're going with the lost siblings one, but I don't look that much like them so it may not work.

Maybe the girls accidently took something from them. Or they just have something the ninjas want. There's hundreds of possibilities.

And when you decide that, you decide what the story is truly about.
