We were supposed to write a letter to a friend. So I wrote a letter to a fellow Tolkienite, and made it very authentic. :-D

Logically, it is worthless. That is why I don't work really hard to fluently understand the whole language.

But...if there was nothing beautiful and authentic and worthless in the world, it would be pretty boring.

Good point. And...what is logic, anyway? Does that really apply to LOTR? ;)

Yes, I think so.

Unless you mean the behavior of an lotr obsessed fan, then-well...logic probably does not apply! =D

Well this what I think:

Even tho Elvish isn't a real language, it's awsome I mean I'm tired of having to learn all these real languages I love fantasy so yeah I mean other people can have their opinion on the language but no matter how much they say it wont change a thing about what I think about Elvish, this isn't for profesional effort as much but for your self, you know what I mean?
Like something you do because you enjoy it

Actualy...it is not of any worth at all, I mean, it's not like you can really communicate with it. But it is not worthless when you just like it (like me). You can argue about it as much as you like, but there will always be people who think it's worthless, and there will always be people who think it is anything but worthless, and I agree with both of them.

I love elvish! I have absolutely no idea how the grammar works, and all that stuff, but i do know a fair amount of roots in names (thank you, Silmarillion), and it adds a lot of depth to the stories Tolkien has created (knowing a little bit of Elvish; and Elvish in general!).

LOL there's a facebook group called "When I conquer the world, we'll all be speaking Elvish"

That would definitely be interesting. And Elvish is awesome!

Really? OMG!! MUST READ!!

But, I understand what you mean... No one I know actually speaks Elvish, unlike French or Spanish, but I feel it has an unspoken value in the hearts of millions! *uber cheezy moment!*

I don't think it's worthless at all. It's so beautiful. Well, it isn't a language that you can use in the same way as other non-fictive languages. But as I guess others already written: It makes come closer to all in the LotR-world. And I'm dreaming about reading a text in elvish in the book and actually understand it.
And even if you can't talk with anyone, you can still translate poetry and stuff. It's just fun to know a language that not everyone knows.

I sure hope so. I just wish Tolkien could have written a complete book about his languages.
