Yes, I think it is something to do with the fact when this Pirate song is sung, other pirates know they need to stand together and call the meeting. It looks like Pirates coins "sing" the song and that's how they know.

WORST PARTS:
The releasing of Calypsco. That was way too odd and out of place for me. And her voice? All loud and freaky sounding? I didn't like that at all.

When Jack had the two mini Jacks on his shoulder. That seemed a bit cartoonish.

When Will was stabbed! I cried so hard! I covered my face and sobbed when they finally cut away from that scene. Yeah I know I'm pathetic, but it was very sad. :( *points to sig*

I didn't mind the releasing of Calypso. I laughed when Barbossa tried to do it, it struck me as strangely funny.

Me too! Oh, gosh, me too, I bawled through that whole scene. Bawled. I was so scared!

oh yes, when Babby tried to do it, it was so funny, the whole "You must speak to her like a lover" or whatever... very funny indeed.

Yeah, true to the singing of Hoist the Colours. And to someone [Starlight, I believe] who mentioned it didn't sound like Kiera singing... it didn't sound like Kiera singing and wondered why it didn't sound like her, because I thought she could sing...

No, it didn't sound like how I would expect her to sing.... but I'm pretty sure it was her.... it wasn't as if she was singing an operetta or a pop song or anything. Just a low key voice.

The realeasing of Calypso was really weird, i would had her turn into like a giant bird or something and dive into the ocean, none of this weird large tia, small dress, weird voice, turning into crab buisness. *ish inspired to draw tia in Calypso form*

i wonder if Jack knew that Tia was Calypso...

poor Norry, *goes to build Norry shrine in the backyard*

Yes, Jack knew, because he was one of the nine pirate lords. However, I'm not sure if he knew that when they were romantically involved.

Calypso planned to turn against the pirates for what they done to her, but then Will said, "Who was the one betrayed you? Davy Jones!!!" -something like that

So basically she remained neutral.

Are we talkinga bout the very beginning when she's rowing the boat? it was a very nice voice, regardless of who it was or wasn't.

I liked how she hid all those weapons on herself... reminded me of Jack's line in CotBP, the whole "sails in her bodice" thing... i dont know why it reminded me of that.

Oh and when the one guy is looking up Liz's shirt, then she moves, and he motions the other guy over, and he looks up the really big guys shirt thing, that was funny.

"More steam!"

Dark Queen of Angmar, Oh, okay. Thank you for answering my question. Well, I do agree that the way they devolped Will's character did irk me a bit as well at First. However I saw it as we were suposed to believe that Will had to do that and that he had come to release that. So I supose I can forgive it. (shrugs) I could always just be biased though. (laughs)

JF, Oh, I repeat. I am so so sorry. I wish that Norrington had not have died either. (hands JF another cookie)
I am very glad to see that I am not the only one who was bother by that. Oh, I know. I was biting my tounge in two to not shout at the movie screen, "You idtiot! He is lying there, with a sword sticking through his chest out of his back, bleeding, lossing consciourness, and you are out in the middle of the occean. I may not have a medical degree but I would say that that probabley would kill you in a hurry. So allright Will is (going to be) okay and I am the toothfairy!" (rolls eyes.
(rolls over laughing) Ding dong...now that is a very good adjetive for Elizabeth. I used idiot at the theatre but I think that yours is better. (laughs and then high fives JF).

Meladwen, You are very welcome. :-D Wonderful explanation! I agree with you once again. lol Oh, and by the way, nice banner.

EowynFaramir4ever, I have read that. The theory is is that if Elizabeth stayed faithful for those ten years, that Will's service upon the Dutchman would be over.(like you said) Now a friend of mine told me that there was a deleted scene that was suposed to explain that. Do you or anyone else here have any information on that? (high fives EowynFaramir4ever, yay for another fan of the wedding scene) :-D lol

Okay...a poster named ATouchofDestiny [imdb.com] was the only reasonable poster I found that could explain the concluding scene better. I looked for a while...since it is kind of hard to find a critic who doesn't wine or say no to this/that.

There was a deleted scene that explains the curse. I wrote a post on another topic that explains what the writers said about the curse and why I think that particular scene was left out. Here it is, sorry if it's very long:

For the sake of argument let's say that the scene explaining the curse was cut not because the film was too long or because the whole idea was dropped, but so the ending could be left open to interpretation.

Some quotes from Ted and Terry (the writers):

Terry: "You might be able to derive that the curse could be broken from the information in the film, but it would be indeed difficult."

Meaning that it is possible to figure out that the curse can be broken, but not probable. Some evidence supporting this: First, Davy's conversation with Calypso. He says something like "I did my duty for ten years! *ten years*!" He seems to be upset enough about having to ferry souls for just ten years, I doubt he would have stressed it that much if he had agreed to do it forever. And why would he agree to captain the Dutchman if he and Calypso could only be together once every ten years? Later in the conversation, Calypso tells Davy that when she is freed they can be together always. Why would she say that if Davy was still the captain and they couldn't be together always? This is open for interpretation, but it seems to me that she is implying that she will be faithful to him and break the curse. Second, the green flash. According to the film and the writers, the green flash occurs when a soul crosses over. The flash we see when Will leaves means his soul is crossing to the land of the dead. The second could be interpreted as his soul coming back to life. If he was still cursed, he would still be 'dead' and there wouldn't have been one.

Ted: "That green flash was what Terry was referring to when he said it was possible, but very difficult, to figure out from the movie that the curse was broken." That sums up what I just said.

I've also heard the argument that Bootstrap said to Will just after he becomes captain that he must sail for eternity. In their conversation Bootstrap says something like "One day on land, ten years at sea.". He never said the process would repeat for eternity, but the conversation could be used as evidence in support of both arguments, depending on how you look at it.

Terry: "But the basic requirement is that Will agrees captain the Flying Dutchmen (in return for what the film reveals) and that he can step on land but once every ten years, and that at any time, if he finds a love that is true (this is part of the original Flying Dutchman opera by the way) then his attachment to the ship is broken."

Again, the full explanation of this was most likely left out of the film so it could be left open for interpretation. It is unfair to say that the concept is dropped because there is evidence to suggest otherwise, and it is also unfair to say that the curse is without a doubt broken, because there just isn't enough evidence in the film to prove it. If you choose to rely on information on the film alone and choose to believe that the curse is not broken or that there isn't enough evidence to decide, that's okay and no one can prove you wrong until the DVD comes out (if the cut scenes are included or the writers talk about it in the commentary). The same goes if you choose to go with what the writers have said and the evidence in the film. Neither side can be proven wrong until the DVD release.

I disagree with somethings, but I guess it would be interesting to discuss over.

I'm a little upset Chow Yun-Fat died so early, but I'm glad he was in the movie. He was one of the main reasons I looked forward to this movie.

Aye, we're talking about the opening when Elisabeth rows the boat in Singapore. I agree it was a nice voice.

Well, the scene where she has to surrender her weapons was funny, but her pouty face annoyed me.. she was like... OMG you like want me to like giv up my guns... geez sucker... mmm didn't quite fit the movie...

*Feels intimidated by this huge thread*

I know this is jumping into your conversation... sorry

Well, i'll admit. I liked it. I wasn't expecting anything good after DMC (for some reason I just hated it). But I was very suprised with AWE, it was good.

The one thing that I liked was the humor parts were actually funny... in the other ones I thought they just were predictable and cheesy. These ones actually made me laugh.

The one thing I didn't really like about it was the first half hour or so of it... I thought it was too violent. I'm usually not one to say that, because I usually like violent movies. But for some reason this just disturbed me.

On a happier note, I was so glad that the whole Will/Elizabeth thing worked out. It was so cute how they got married on the ship!

Well, thats all I can think of now...

I totally know what you mean, Darky :)

Frankly, if that were the case and the curse were broken for Will to come back and be with Elizabeth, I would be ecstatic. I really would. But I don't know. If there's another movie, they'll have to resolve it (unless it's a prequel), which would be interesting...but it the curse is broken, who captains the Dutchman?

No, thats fine Luth, we always love a new perspective! Feel free to jump in, we won't bite.... i think.

@Melda: Me! I could totally do that, it'd be neat to have a female captain... maybe Bootstrap would take over or some such... it is a good question though, maybe they would bring in a new character, rather than forcing an old one into that spot.

*revives tendrily beard* bwahahaha
