I'm sorry for not replying sooner, since I was the one requesting the list... Fabulous job, thank you all who contributed in putting it together! It was great reading through it!
And yeah, please put in on the first page Gimli. I was going to ask you if you would!

^Sure and we wouldn't have to search pages and pages to find the list... we've already posted 4-5 pages away from the list!

Slang has a life of its own... the current list does contain some slang, aye? I mean slang defined as words or phrases that would not be found in the the official dictionary. But slang changes all the time and may even differ from region and city... but if you know some slang words, feel free to post them!
I just came to realize how American dominated the forum is. Since the main language here is English I didn't notice before, but after the British society was born and the Brits unite here I came to think about it. Do you British people feel a special need for gathering and for standing up against the American dominion? And if so, why is that?

I never saw it as taking a stand against the Americans, but after having been coming here for a while I just realized, how people express their unconditional love for England here and figured that perhaps Brits might be more patriotic than others - also with your imperial past etc.
Being a non-American and a non-Brit I'm starting to feel sooo alone here... [insert alone-ish looking smiley here]

I actually think we are very patriotic, even more so than the Americans. We've been going for a lot longer than the United States, at it almost seems as if the Americans have tried to cram in the many years of our patriotism, into their very brief few hundred years life span. We are patriotic, but not in the flag waving, anthem singing, hand on heart, way the Amercians are. We just talk about English summers and cricket and tea and jam...that's our patriotism...remembering the simple things we enjoy because others died for us and Britain.

And it seems at times that the our smaller population of non-Americans/Canadians/Brits here are the most patriotic of us all. Some of them are the only ones representing their countries here, and they want to be heard. It's amazing...

Oh, cool Do you know where in Norway he's from?
My friend is in London this year, working for a Norwegain Missionary Society. I went to visit her, and it was awesome.
...Did I tell you this earlier?

An awful lot of american "patriotism " is really just a zealous manner. real patriotism is where you will stand beside your country and your history and quietly defend them. Brash loud statements of love for ones country are often uncouth and lack real conviction and belief. We have fought many wars and seen many hard times, Many before us lived well, loved fiercely and died appreciating simple things. Also, something else brings this country together. We are comprised of England ,Northern Ireland , Scotland and Wales. Although there are many old jokes and prejudices that lie, we all are bound together by a sense of britishness that few other countries truly enjoy. Also, referring to the post about standing against american dominion, we are bound by our society and a worldwide conscience to preserve a remnant of TRUE freedom, as a Briton, from the first sound they make to the last breathe they take is entitled to think and say what they feel. Some may hold ancient grudges against us, years in the making, but in this fair land that I call home, we bear as the poet John McCrae once said
"The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow"
In Flanders fields."
This shows that we owe a lot to those before us, and must always strive to make those who paved that path before us, many wth all they had, even to their lives, proud to be our forbears.
