I can see what you mean. I might have misunderstood it all, but what I made of it was that they were selling their stories just to get the money. A bit celebrity-like, you might say. But if I'm wrong, I'll be the first one to admit it :)

Well I haven't heard much about the money thing really....but I'm presuming the Navy must have given their permission for them to write stories...for some reason other than each receiving some money from it......I think there is some sort of public awareness movement going on.

Maybe. I *think* the last thing I heard was that they weren't allowed to sell their stories anyway... But that's a few days ago, so the situation might have changed...

the MoD said they gave permission because if the marines didn't sell their stories then friends and family would, and if anyone should make money out of it then it should be the marines. i suppose giving official permission would allow the MoD greater control of exactly what was printed - marines would be answerable to the army and the government, but friends and family wouldn't be answerable to anybody.

personally, i agree that the marines should be allowed to tell their stories, but i don't agree with them making money out of it - it's an insult to everyone else serving in the armed forces, especially those who have been forbidden from speaking out about their experiences in the past.

i think you're right - i believe the MoD has admitted that it made a mistake in giving permission and has forbidden the selling of any more stories. even blair has admitted they were wrong.

Well it seems were talking about this anyway, so I may as well have my pennysworth in for it. I think that the Marines were in Iraqi waters, and that to start the Iranians were out of line to capture them. Second, to put the pyschological strain, on those marines and then to release them as though it were a magnanimous Gesture, is an open insult. They have also kept alot of the equipment as far as I know, which is not theirs, which is common thievery. I do accept that the Marines played lipservice to survive, but unless Im mistaken, the only thing a soldier is meant to say in an interrogation situation is Name, Rank and number. The whole thing about stories is well, I guess they do deserve to say their bit but under better circumstances rather than them going after the paper that wil pay them the best.

Eeeek sorry i forgot about this club.
I don't think we are in a position to say what is right and wron, as we don't have the full political and personal motivation facts. Therefore we can only make guesses but we cannot judge them (meaning both british and Iranie)

Oh if people are new and don't know me; i'm Anduril or Andi and i live in Oxford England (and i'm a girl)

I always think that on many issues, people constantly discuss them, make opinions and pass judgments without enough knowledge of a specific subject. But people will always do it!

And im still yet to make up my mind wether i think its right or not, I'm waiting until I hear more discussion and info ;)

Well i'm from Oxford England, (well just outside acctually) I'm female and 16. Anduril Vanlhach litally means 'Flame of the West' 'Pure-flame'

I have an obbsession with Pure. Not meaning purity but pure something, like pure evil. I find the idia of something being completly only one thing strangle enticeing. My hair is flame coulored so thats the fire bit. Anduril is obviousely the name of Narsil re-forged and i had an obssesion with Aragorn when i was younger and all my fanfics had someone of that name.

Vanalhach is my newest bit. I was Anduril Peredhil, then Anduril Nova (i was Au married for a bit to Jax Nova) and then we divorced for rl reasons and i became pureflame.

Okay i'v written my history....

I've stumbled across a few British terms that have me absolutely foiled. Does anyone know what they might mean? (My dad's been here too long to know what they meant.)
-Tiffin
-Clothears
-Dandy

There were a couple of other ones but I can't recall them right now. Anyone know what these mean?

I don't know about tiffin, but cloth ears is what you might call someone who isn't really listening or paying attention. And dandy, if you said something is dandy, or 'fine and dandy' it means everything is good/fine/ok.

I hope that makes sense.
