A very good chapter by chapter review, too!

Agree! That is a great sig set! I was just getting into the Lily/Severus thing before DH. I really want to make a HP sig set but i don't have photoshop and I used up my trial. Silver - wicked avatar. So do I. ;)

I finished DH on 22nd, it's brilliant! I loved the hallows plot and Harry being a horcrux. I also loved how Harry called his son Albus Severus - that he forgave him. I hoped James' 2nd name was Sirius though!!The number of deaths was dreadful, but I expected alot seeing as its the last book - *cries*. The Tonks/Remus relationship was a tad rushed, and I hated how they died without any explanation, and just after having a son. Poor teddy! I felt so bad for George as well! Poor Fred!

PoA is definatly still the best book though and OotP and DH battle for 2nd, even though Sirius dies in OotP, it's the longest and has a wicked plot.

Can't wait for the encyclopedia, somthing else for us HP fans to get excited about!!
:jump:

OotP is actually my least favorite book, closely followed by Chamber. PoA is always and forever the best, though, as my two favorite characters have big roles. *coughremuschoughandchoughsiriuscough*

I can't wait for the encyclopedia, either. I fear the wait might be painful, though, as JK doesn't seem in a hurry to write it.

I'm just reading it now, but favorite bit so far:

Quote:
Knowing he'd die if he drank the potion protecting the Horcrux, Regulus instructed Kreacher to take the locket back to Grimmauld place and destroy it if he could -- which of course he couldn't, because Horcruxes have to be taken to Mount Doom, in the heart of Mordor, and thrown into the fiery depths. Or at least stabbed by a basilisk tooth.

 and:

Quote:
"But like another small, golden dingus imbued with part of an Evil Overlord's soul, carrying the locket around their necks for too long affects their moods, making them despair.

I like this guy, he makes LotR references! And also, it's a very good point that Harry/Ron/Hermione should have gone to Umbridge's house instead. Way easier.

Quote:
So he uses his wand to break the ice and dives in, but when he grabs the sword, the locket chain tightens around his throat. "Ack," he thinks, "this isn't Lord of the Rings!" But the locket won't let go, and just as he's about to pass out a hand reaches down and grabs him.

I actually never thought about the locket being like the Ring while I was reading, but it really does have some strange similarities.

Quote:
Many miles away, Griphook the goblin is sitting in his living room gently stroking the Sword of Gryffindor.

Griphook: Precioussssssss.

Quote:
Neville whips off the Sorting Hat, pulling the Sword of Gryffindor from it, shouts, "I am no man," and strikes off Nagini's head. "PWN this."

'kay, I appreciate the effort but somehow I think Neville is male. Unless I've been wrong for almost seven books. Lol.

Heartily enjoyed that, thank you VERY much Ellie!

LOL. Those are brilliant. I think one of you said the locket had similarities to the Ring, and now that I think about it, it does!

ROFL Ellie, that's genius, pure genius. :P Gave me a good laugh.

Actually, I didn't think of LotR once whilst reading DH. I was more fascinated by all the King Arthur parallels...

*huggles teh Snape* I wub him. And I'm glad so many other people do too. ;)

Well, take Gryffindor's sword for instance. Isn't their some sort Arthurian legend surrounding Arthur's sword, Excalibur, and how he came to own it. I believe it was at the bottom of a lake in one story or another.

And the Horcruxes offer an interesting parallel as well. Apparently there are 13 Arthurian Hallows which refer to such items as the chalice, wand, and sword. As I'm not expert on this subject, I'm not exactly sure of how accurate that is, but it interested me nonetheless.

Squee! Thanks Taur. So, not everyone is utterly repulsed or weirded out by Snape's love interest? I think they've got to be the cutest couple ever! :P

Not at all! I thought it was absolutely adorable! My heart nearly burst with pity when I read about it! Poor Snapey! :'(

And in your chapter-by-chapter review you said if he had chosen to be in Gryffindor things would have turned out completely different. I hadn't thought of that! But I think you're completely right! You would have thought he would have, with Lily being his best friend by that point, and knowing she's a Muggle-born.

And did anyone else notice that while Lily and Severus were on the train and talking about houses, James said, "Who wants to be in Slytherin? I'd leave, wouldn't you?" is the exact same thing Draco said about Hufflepuff in Madame Malkins in the first book. I wonder what that means... :erm:

Personally, I think it just means that James wasn't an extremely nice person until after he got over being a git. As Ron has succinctly put it in the past.

I was really touched by the whole Snape/Lily thing...I actually felt SO bad for him when she refused to accept his apology. It could have been so different! I also wonder why Snape wasn't ever very nice to Harry - I guess maybe he saw too much of James in him, and not enough Lily? Cause I don't think he was ever really blind enough to think Harry was as arrogant as all that. But it was really sad how the last thing he wanted to see was Lily's eyes. *Sniffle*

Thanks for the link, Ellie. That made my day. :P

I definately noticed the connections with LotR. Now that you mention it though, Larael, I can see the connection with King
Arthur too... that's interesting.

And I LOVE the part with Snape and Lily. That was my favorite part of the entire book (which I suppose is really saying something :P).

I think the main reason Snape was inclined to dislike Harry from the start was just how much he looked like James. I would have hoped that he could have gotten past that though, since Harry wasn't arrogant like James or anything.

^^ actually I think Harry was a bit arrogant like his father(sorry please don't hurt me) I mean not nearly as much as his father was but i think that ahrry was soooo focused on how wonderful his father was he didn't consider the possiblity that he had his bad moments, I think, however, snape focused too much on that and didn't see how much he was, in fact, like his mother. I hope that makes sense.

Yes, that does make sense. I actually agree with what you're saying, but I'm not sure if I'd call it arrogance on Harry's part. I could see why Snape wouldn't like him because of it, but it's not as if it's Harry's fault for not knowing. How could he know? It would be more ignorance than anything.

Oh, I definitely think Harry was somewhat arrogant. Not as bad as James by a long shot, but it was enough for Snape to see it and maybe blow it out of proportion just because Harry looked so much like James. And yeah, what with Snape knowing how arrogant James was, Harry extolling his virtues would have been not a little irritating.

Exactly what I was thinking. Besides, if you think about it, if things had turned out differently and Snape and Lily had gotten together instead, it would make sense that Snape would see Harry as the child he never had. Jealousy much? It's not as far-fetched as we might think...

These are my random thoughts as I read each chapter of the book. Thought I'd post them.

Grievances & Musings
.... Because Kit's a nerd.

> Chapter 01 - Dark Lord Descending
I was actually expecting the opening chapter to be something sinister like this since GOF and HBP opened like this. JKR's writing never disappoints me. The hairs on my back were standing up and if they could've, I bet they grew longer. This chapter shows Snape FINALLY with the Death Eaters, though I'm still not convinced he's evil. .... Not yet.

Extremely surprised that Lucius is still alive. I thought the whole family was off'd because of the way Voldemort was using Malfoy Manor without the apparent presence of the Malfoys (until later, we find that they're there, just not in control of their humble abode). The ministry's been infiltrated. Big surprise. Wormtail's cry when Voldemort says he will off Harry himself. Foreshadowing? That life debt that he has to Harry?

The Malfoys: Desire for Voldemort to return to power: No desire to have them mucking up their nice furniture when feeding his pet snake dead bodies of Hogwarts Muggle Studies teachers.

Bellatrix Lestrange: Still crazy.

The most exciting part of chapter 01: Tonks MARRIED Lupin. Heck yes! My ship of HP is even MORE canon. And I was actually grinning when the Death Eaterse made jokes about cubs. Can you imagine? They'd be so cute!

Muggle-Studies teacher gets a name before she gets killed. Awesome.

Deaths So Far: Charity Burbage.

> Chapter 02 - In Memoriam
What a depressing introduction for our protagonist. "Harry was bleeding." ....and with the loss of so much blood, he dies. End of the Harry Potter series. That would be EVIL. We get to know about Dumbledore AFTER he does, so typical. I want the story behind those stupid woolen socks! Dumbledore was such a good man. [sobs] And then Harry has to go off and read about a stupid interview with Rita Skeeter. Can someone please just sock her?

Just. Deck. Her. It's easy.

Flash of blue, it could mean nothing---it could mean everything, why does she have to this to us?

> Chapter 03 - The Dursleys Departure
LOL Dedalus Diggle. Vernon wants Kingsley for their body guard. So amusing. Hestia Jones has got ot be the most normal Order member.

"If we've even seen CVs..." began Uncle Vernon, but Harry lost patience.
What on earth are CVs!? Is it a British thing?!
I'm right! I do have the right to like and sympathize with Dudley, take that Dudley-haters! Okay, so far my theory that Petunia does have magical abilities isn't gonna come true anytime soon.

> Chapter 04 - The Seven Potters
People to Harry's rescsue! Yes, just like OotP! :) And Moody's head of the operation. Always comforting, that is. Tonks ---- short hair with her favorite shade of bright pink. Awesome appearance for Tonks. Lupin's was disappointng. "Grayer, more lined." That's it?!

"Harry, guess what?" said Tonks from her perch on top of the machine, and she wiggled her left hand at him; a ring glittered there.
"You got married?" Harry yelped, looking from her to Lupin.
"I'm sorry you couldn't be there, Harry, it was very quiet."

I wonder about how glittering that ring is. I can't imagine Lupin being able to afford too much. Or was it Tonks? Either way, I LOVE this ship.

He's stopping at Andromeda & Ted's house, omg! YES! Do you know how many fanfics I've read with Tonks's parents? It's good for us to meet them in canon. I just forget whether or not it's canon that they're healers in the Ministry or St. Mungos.... Fernwithy's pounded in my head that they work at St. Mungos. Harry did meet them after they healed him----so they're still associated with healing. Canon!Tonks'sfamily is way awesome.

I absolutely loved how humorous this chapter was, especially with George & Fred.

One issue: Moody says that everyone there is overage (or of-age)----they're not. Hermione's still 16, she doesn't turn 17 until Sept. 21st or something. Unless JKR explain that she started school late like Viktor Krum did (and she's older than Harry & Ron), than mistake!

"Hold tight now, Ron." said Tonks, and Harry saw Ron throw a furtive, guilty look at Lupin before placing his hands on either side of her waist.
LOL. All the Lupin/Tonks is love.

OMG! No, Hedwig! How could you, JKR! [sobs] That was cruel, and random, and just cruel!

Love that motorbike though.

Voldemort can fly. Great, what else? Laser-eye beams? Oh noes, don't die, Hagrid!

Deaths so far: Charity Burbage, Hedwig

> Chapter 05 - Fallen Warrior
Andromeda looks strikingly like Bellatrix----Comforting. Omg! Hagrid's alive! Yay! The Tonkses call Tonks "Dora"----how cute is that? I bet Lupin does too. [giggles] George is missing an ear. Gross.

"The Polyjuice Potion is designed for human use only." Er.... Well, Fleur's part-veela----so how does that work out? Mind you, she's probably like 1/4 veela, but still.

Okay, so I'm not fond of Snape cutting off George's ear. I'm sure he was aiming at a rather bothersome vulture in the middle of the battle and accidently threw the Sectumsempra curse carelessly and George kind of got in the way. Yeah, I'm sure of it.

LOL --- George's missing ear joke is, "Saintlike." ---- holey. xD I love Fred's reaction.

Omg, Lupin & Tonk's reunion. I couldn't stop giggling. Gah, I'm such a shipper.
"Remus!" Tonks cried as she staggered off the broom into Lupin's arms. His face was set and white: He seemed unable to speak.
Aww! Gah, I can only imagine his worries and anxiousness waiting for them to appear.
"So what kept you? What happened?" Lupin sounded almost angry at Tonks.
As he should be! Scaring him like that, hmph!
My only concern is that they didn't ask to make sure its Tonks & Ron, so lets' hope they don't turn out to be fakes. Hopefully Bill & Fleur aren't either.

OMG! Mad-Eye's DEAD!? How on earth is that possible? I thought he was invincible?! Superman! I've noticed Lupin's not too fond of traitors, especially after the Potters' dying and all. I love you, Lupin! Harry's wand acted on its own----awesome. Ollivander!!! Grawr! Darn you, Voldemort. Absolutely love the ending line in this chapter.

Deaths so far: Charity Burbage, Hedwig, Mad-Eye Moody

To Join into the Discussion:

I find Harry was a bit arrogant like his father when he was younger, around 2nd-3rd-4th year, but after that, it was just downhill for Harry, so it's taught him humility and he's grown up into a mature young man and able to accept these things that are thrown at him, and he was able to sort out the right from wrong and had great friends to allow him to succeed in his mission. I imagine James was exactly like this, he was arrogant when he was younger but he grew up and saw that it was war and he had to step up.

I can't see Snape jealous, wanting Harry as his own child---because all sense n purposes, Snape saw Harry just like he saw James, to him; they were exactly alike. I just see that, Snape loved Lily. And it just ended at that. Snape loved Lily. I can't see the extended thought about whether or not Snape waned to marry Lily, or have a life with her; it's just. Snape loved Lily, and it was enough.

Yep, CVs are British (it stands for "curriculum vitae", Latin for "course of life", no idea how I knew that but still....)

It's kind of like when you apply for a job, you show them your CV which is a summary of all the education and job experience you've had, which qualifications you have and that sort of stuff. So Vernon wants to see them 'cause then he knows what jobs they'd done in the past, their reputation, and all the qualifications they have :-D

Of course Harry was arrogant, if not as much as James, but Snape with his hatred of James just saw that and blew his slight arrogance out of proportion. I think that he did notice how much he was like Lily, but just chose not to dwell on that, if that makes sense... Or maybe he just didn't like Harry 'cause he was so much like Lily and it hurt?
