Well you could also say that Norrington is widely thought to be and unessecary character, which again wouldn't be completely true. Or that Will is a widely loved character, which again, isn't completely true, as in certain sections of the internet there are many people who dislike him. And if you could the numerous critics who have also mentioned their dislike or him, and the many critics who were saddened to see Norrington go.

It's always going to be based on a matter of personal opinion. And so obviously those who wish to bring Norrie back, are going to use the phrase "widely thought to be unnessecary".

He'd lived to see them together, to see them kiss. I doubt seeing them married would have sent him over the edge. :teehee:

i must be really out of it or something. i didn't really mind his death. i mean, it was weird that bootstrap turned him in, and then died,( but then again, bootstrap was nuts from sitting in a ship doing nothing for who knows how long.) but i still think it was a really random thing to happen. if he did go with lizzie and the pirates, you think he would have been a pirate with them?

Lovely how that works, isn't it? That's the mark of good storytellers. :)

"The Irony of Cutler Road"...perhaps the makings of a short story, eh? :P :teehee:

Yes, now that I see the other side of the metaphorical coin, I can't enjoy scenes with all three characters in them the same way I used to...
Well, I kind of meant that since Norrie's killed off in such a terrible way in AWE, I'm not sure how I'm going to react to seeing it now that I've grown fond of him... :(

I can't really see "Evil Norrie" either, as interesting as the idea is...no worries, aunt PD. ;)

exactly! And they were good storytellers, weren't they?

Hmmm, a short story about the irony of Becky's road  that's a good idea!... and it would have to be a comedy too!

*returns high five*

Ah... well, that might effect your future Norrie veiwings in a sadder way (I was thinking you liking him more now might make you like him even more when you see AWE :P ).... but I totally understand! I was already a huge fan of his by then (and of late I've grown fonder and fonder of him... for no apparent reason. :P) so the first time I watched him die left me sitting speechless for a time.... and I doubt that will change much in the future. :(

phew! And I'm happy for that! :-D It is an interesting idea... but I'm happy Norrie was made the way he was.

yeah... I think it'd be more like a Ms. Pirate... or Ms. Cursed-Barbossa's-Wife! ;)

I'm happy I'm not the only one who feels that way, Taur!
The way Norrie dies just seemed so... sudden. And then he was never mentioned again. :( I would love to see him come back for a fourth Pirates (in fact as it is right now his return would be the only thing (other than Will or Lizzie's) that would even draw me to Pirates 4)… but I would've loved even more to see him go away with Elizabeth and at least help the pirates... although (as an answer to Lady of Taniquetil :P) I don't know if I can see him actually becoming a pirate (if he did he'd be like how Liz or Will were... more like an adventurer. Although I think his heart would've always been in the Navy and that life)... but definitely I could see him helping them overthrow Beckett.

that sounds like a lot of fun! Sweet! :-D

In POTC, anything can happen. People can become zombies, get eaten by tentacly things, have their hearts carved out and still be living. I say we let people dream a little bit huh?

Hm, and a lot of us just mourn the death of a much loved character. So he got his kiss, very sweet, but not justification for his death. Saying he "died happy" does not in the end help the fact that he died. [/end rant]

I'll join in the rank of those who say his death did seem extremely rushed and rather pointless... I mean I love how heroic he was and it was so sweet that he gave up his life for Lizzie… but it seemed like one minute he was living, the next he was dead. Just like that.

I totally agree with you about how easily his death could've been avoided… in fact I agree with you on all you said! You're 100% right, JF!

Mmm... I don't think he would want to go back to that. I would have liked it better if he'd stayed on the Flying Dutchman and sabotaged Beckett's plans. Then, when Beckett died, all the men had turned to him for leadership and he would have led the Navy in the right direction again. :)

Very nice! It's true, you can't ever classify everyone in the world. :)
Yeah, I think by AWE he had kind of accepted that Elizabeth didn't love him. Hence the beautiful line, "Our destinies were always entwined, Elizabeth, but never joined." He understood they weren't meant to be, and instead of trying to ruin them, he helped them! That just makes him that much more lovable!

Oh, I assure you that in the future I won't snarl at the screen during the James/Elizabeth kiss like I did the first time I saw it () and watching him be all heroic probably will make me like him better...which will only make the fall harder when he dies. :'( I'm sorry, fellow Norrie fan.

Anie Surion, Yes, the name "Turner" is used quite often in movies and television now. It is a bit strange but kind of cool at the same time. :-D Exactly! One of us could end up as a Turner. That would just be so cool. lol I am obsessed. :teehee:
No offence taken. :) I understand that he is not everyone's cup of tea...and he is not exactly my favorite either. I like a guy who is loyal as well. Being wish washy can lead to trouble...as proven by both Jack and Boromir.
Me too. (high fives Anie Surion) Allmost all of friends prefer bad boys. However I allmost always go for the goody two shoes (I have two exceptions though...Lost's Sawyer and Harry Potter's Draco). So it is nice to meet another girl who goes for the good guy. Oh, ditto! Since alot of my friends prefer the bad boys (inclueding my younger sister) we always debate the subject. Most of the time it is a Will vs Jack debate. We have had debates that have literaly lasted for hours before on the matter of good characters vs bad (or anit-hero) characters. So I totally get what you mean there.
Ooh, I love dear Norrington too.
Yes, at least it did up on the dvd. Wonderful idea! We shall just have to pretend that it was in the movie.

FaeEwoynTonks, Yes they are! I just love them (I heart Tupin) However you might want to be careful about putting spoilers in your signature. I do not mind...However some people around here have not finished reading the book yet. Please don't get mad at me... I just wanted to give you the heads up, so you won't get in trouble.
Oh, don't worry about it. I am not very good at spelling either.
Hmm well I kind of liked that there were fewer people. That way you had more time to focus on the main characters and the ones that were allready established. However if they had added a few more people in the first movie or added on characters (perhaps even in the third one) that were connected to our main characters, that would have been really cool. :) Is there any particular character type ( a mother for Will, a girl for Jack, a family member for Elizbeth, etc) that you wanted to be added to the movie or jsut more characters in general?

PD, Yes this thread really has taken off here of late. :) Huzzah! ...Though I am beginning to fall behind...eek...lol :-D

Taurquende, Yes he needs listerine, minty gum, and to brush his teeth. Oh, and while we are at it...he needs to take a bath too. lol Uh, he needs to work on the personaly hygeine. Yes, it is just like Elizabeth's line.
Well, personaly I thought that she was mean to him there. I believe that she lied through her teeth. She agreed to marry him after requesting to go and rescue Will...quite conveinate (spelling?). She needed something from him so she used him. When the situation called for manipulation, she would use it. She would manipulate men's feelings for her to get what she wanted. She used Norrington's love for her to get Will rescued and used Jack's feelings for her to save her and the rest of the crew (as well as rid herself of having to choose between Will and Jack...in my opinion). I really expected her to use the same ploy in AWE. However overall she did not. I was glad of that.
Ah that is cool too. Well when it comes to PotC guys do you prfer the bad boy (anit hero) or the goody two shoes? (Jack or Will...Will?)
Ooh yeah that scene was pretty cool. Though I must agree that the Norrington one is still my favorite. :)
Oh very good point. I had paid so much attention to Norrington in that scene and the lines though that I had not what she was wearing. Now taht you mention it though she was wearing um...an....uh...odd outfit to be wearing out on the deck of a ship.

Lady 0f Taniquetil, lol That is so very way cool! I keep trying to get my uncle and auntie to name their boat...the Endevorer or the Black Pearl (or really any PotC name). However they do not seem to interested in naming their boat....I shall just have to keep suggesting they name it I supose. lol

JF, Oh, thank you for the link! I shall ask my mum if I may sign it and if she says yes I will try to sign it later. Thank you once again!

I've also grown very fond of Norrie, and I think I'll start crying next time I see the kiss. :'( I almost did the 2nd time I saw AWE, because I saw it coming. The first time I was too busy wondering if he was going to go turn pirate and whether Elizabeth and rest would get away. Taurquende, Yay...I mean huzzah for Will! (high fives Taurquende) :-D
Thank you. Well, (tries to make good use of memory. lol) she most certainly did play Sao Feng for a fool after she found out that he had feelings for her. So actualy I guess that you could say that she used the same tactic (aka manipulation)...but at least it was not against our main characters. So I was quite pleased with that. Sao Feng was a bad guy...so he doesn't count. lol :teehee:
Oh, that is great! Another fan of the good guys is always a cool thing. :) Does she like are goody two shoes Will as well? Ooh yay for Draco! :) (sorry about being off topic there)

I've thought of the perfect end for him already :P even better than what I've told some of you (Drew, Anie, yes you two ;))... in fact I think it's a masterpiece (but that would just be me :P)... keeping him alive wouldn't have hurt the movie in any way. :annoyed2: exactly like what Anie said the less important characters got a lot (although I’m not sure how much less important Beckett and Gov. Swann were) and then Norrie got almost zip.

Oh, I assure you that in the future I won't snarl at the screen during the James/Elizabeth kiss like I did the first time I saw it () and watching him be all heroic probably will make me like him better...which will only make the fall harder when he dies. :'( I'm sorry, fellow Norrie fan.

huzzah for them! :-D

 it could be nothing else!

*gaspeth and dies! :swoon:* you snarled at Norrie when he kissed Elizabeth!? I thought that kiss was so sweet and it didn't harm anything... yes, now watching him be heroic will probably change all that :)... yeah, and then they had to go and kill him off... :'( I probably will fast forward through that scene when I get the dvd... although I do like it in a bitter-sweet way, you know? It will probably end up like the way the RotK end was. I got all sad and depressed for at least 4 months whenever I would watch the end... so finally I started just not watching the end :P and it got better as time went on.... so I can watch the end now... I don't know I still haven't desided what I will do when I get the dvd. I'll probably watch it but I guess it all depends.
 thanks!

Nah, obsession isn't bad at all...for instance, some think I'm obsessed with the names "Will" and "Liam", when in fact it's mostly just a coincidence that those are the names of some of my favorite characters and actors (not to mention the name of a character in the book I'm writing :P).
Exactly! I can't stand disloyalty, that's what turns me off of Boromir. :annoyed2: Glad you're not offended though. :)
I don't understand why so many girls think Jack would stay with them! :duh: I'm telling the truth when I say that he would use them and then move on to the next girl. Whereas Will...well, you know what I mean... :-D
Just watch that scene immediately following watching the ending of the movie, that'll be close enough, eh? :)

Yay! :bounce: Thank you! That should be an interesting... "Aragorn, this is a razor. All you have to do is run it across your face lightly. Now, shall we move onto the scissors? :teehee:

I've also grown very fond of Norrie, and I think I'll start crying next time I see the kiss. :'( I almost did the 2nd time I saw AWE, because I saw it coming. The first time I was too busy wondering if he was going to go turn pirate and whether Elizabeth and rest would get away. It felt like a blinked and... he was gone! :'( (Yet another reason to bring him back!)

Anie Surion wrote:
Hearing Elizabeth say that line (or the equivalent thereof) probably WOULD do me in emotionally... I know what you mean though, the less important characters get this huge deal made out of their deaths, and Norrie gets almost nothing... What gives?!

I know, it's awful! I just... can't believe they did away with him like that! AND almost made him evil! :confused2: It's not fair. :(

Indeed! See why she's my best friend? ;) lol

 I'd pay a lot of money to see that. :P

Aww, sad! (I didn't cry during any of AWE, either time I saw it, though I teared up when Governor Swann left in that boat...)

It really isn't very fair, is it? The others get their moments and Norrie gets what? One two second kiss and a two second shot of his dead body? :(

Hm...will you be forthcoming with this ending anytime soon, PD? ;)

*cough* I'll admit it, I did. In my defense, if I may, this was when I was still smarting from Elizabeth's betrayal with Jack (the Kiss of Death I mean) and wasn't so keen on Elizabeth kissing anybody but Will. But I've seen the light now! I will concede that Norrie deserved it, especially seeing as he died two minutes later... :'( He really is a hero, just as much as Will.
Aww, you couldn't watch the ROTK ending for that long? It's only ever made me cry twice (the first time I saw it, and I think the fifth or so time but that one was weird...). I suppose "time heals all wounds" really is true - perhaps it will be that way for Norrington's death as well. :)

well, I can accept he died (although I didn't/don't like it one bit! ) but, yeah, he never really got his own special moment... I was thinking about it though... and maybe Elizabeth never would've brought it up again because it was sorta a personal thing between him and her and she figured Will or Jack just wouldn't understand (although it seems like Will would...). It did just happen so fast... and then it was almost like he never even existed.

Hmm, I see your point, but I still think it was more due to the writer's laziness. :P

Care to endulge this perfect ending? ;) I'm interested! :D And I don't think I've heard your other endings as well. :innocent:

Thank you. Well, (tries to make good use of memory. lol) she most certainly did play Sao Feng for a fool after she found out that he had feelings for her. So actualy I guess that you could say that she used the same tactic (aka manipulation)...but at least it was not against our main characters. So I was quite pleased with that. Sao Feng was a bad guy...so he doesn't count. lol
Oh, that is great! Another fan of the good guys is always a cool thing. Does she like are goody two shoes Will as well? Ooh yay for Draco! (sorry about being off topic there)

*high five back* :D
True, but I agree, Sao Feng doesn't count. :P
Well... she says she likes them both equally, but honestly I think she perfers Will. :P
Yay for Draco! (And it's actually "yay" this time since Draco's not in PotC. :P) [/ending off-topic]

Ah, yes, I do see. My best friend likes Jack, although she's still a big Will fan and is obsessed with Orlando Bloom. :P

I would too. And you get a clean-shaven Aragorn in the process! It's a win-win situation! ;)

I didn't cry during AWE either, because when Norrie and Will died I was staring with my mouth open in shock at the screen. :o

With me it's no coincidence. :P I always fall in love with the names as much as the characters. Orlando, Will, Erik, Josh, and for girls Emmy and Natalie. :P
Yeah, to me loyalty is also a prime quality that anyone I marry must have. :)

Yeah...except then we might have a very angry Gondorian Queen after us. :P

I winced when Norrie died, and my friends say I gasped quite loudly when Davy Jones stabbed Will (even though I knew it was going to happen).

Nice! That works, I guess. :teehee:
*high fives* That's part of the reason I admire Sam Gamgee...he's so completely and unfalteringly loyal to his master.

Oops, right! Sorry Arwen! :guilty: :teehee:

I'm pretty sure I gasped really loudly too. :D At least I had enough self-control to keep myself from screaming. :P

Aww...I don't either!! *hugs Will* Though I understand most people who do either go for the bad boys because they're so much more "interesting", or think Orlando's the worst actor ever to grace the planet. *rolls eyes*

Well, I think as long as you apologize profusely, she'll probably let it go. :P

Yeah that might've had dire consequences... ;) My friends say I wouldn't stop making noise from the moment the opening credits rolled, but I don't think I was as loud as all that. :teehee:

AAARRRGGG!!! Okay, read this artice...actually skip the first couple paragraphs cause they're irrelevant...

I can't believe this!!!!!! Our society is going down the drain, this article proves it!!!!! "Not enough lust"...what the heck kind of excuse is that??? :explode:

*breathes in*

I'm sorry, but I'm just so disgusted by this. Hollywood has so desensitized people to lust that they mistake it for love, and claim more is needed in Will and Elizabeth's relationship! :duh: :annoyed: (If you ask me, there was more than enough lust in that island scene... :teehee:)

but, I am going to bed now. Formulate your own rants. :-D *slips out of thread*

PS: I found that article on IMDb. If you guys want to see my reply to the thread (which I had some fun writing, I'll admit), here's the link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0461136/board/flat/82958360?p=2
(I'm the huge, long, ticked-off post, with the LOTR quote at the bottom. :teehee:)
