Oo, Disney! Three words sum up my childhood:
The Lion King.
I love this movie to death. When I was a kid, it was my favorite movie ever. You could call it my first obsession. I was forever pretending to be Nala and singing songs from it and quoting it. And I love Timon and Pumbaa.
Snow White was another one that I liked because of the music and the princess. The witch scared me out of my mind as a child, though. I used to have nightmares, and kept thinking I saw her in my window at night. I couldn't be in my room with the blinds up for ten years.
Mary Poppins, although I didn't really understand the beginning, or what was happening with Mr. Banks. But the songs were great and I loved the animated part.
Those are the ones I own and know best, but other greats for me were Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmations, Aladdin, Cinderella, Tarzan, and The Aristocats. (Even though the last two made me cry. )

Haha, I know what you mean! Not that it was my favorite Disney movie (I think The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast were mine) but I've seen this movie soooo many times! It's my 4 year old brother's favorite movie ('cept for maybe Spider-Man, and Batman - which he's never seen . What is it that attracts boys to those movies by just seeing pictures of the heros?). It's funny! I've watched it soo many times I can quote pretty much the whole thing (so can he, btw. 'Tis very cute ) and draw connections from the High School Musical song "Everyday" to "Can you Feel the Love Tonight". Okay, that scares me!
Some of my other favorite Disney movies were Aladdin, Tarzan, and Winnie the Pooh.

Oooh! Hercules was great, too, even though the proportions and stuff were way weird in it.
*gaspspluttercough* Aerlinn!!! You didn't like Phillip!?!?!? He's so cool! He is way cooler than Prince Charming in Cinderella or Snow White, for instance.
And he fights Maleficent, who was also really cool. After all--she turns into a dragon, which was really freakishly awesome when I was little.

^ Whoa, that is.... very... different. Took advantage of her in her sleep? Ugh. *shudder*
I usually get mad when Disney edits stuff beyond recongnition, but in this case... I think it was justified.

I just read the original version of the fairytale and...uh..it was quite different. The prince...didn't exactly kiss her awake. He actually thought she was so beautiful he raped her in her sleep! Eeeeeeeeeeewwww! And she didn't even wake up after that (wow, she's got to be a heavy sleeper....I wake up when someone touches my arm - and I mean as in lightly touch ) She only woke up when one of the two children she bore ( yeah, I don't know how she did that either, without waking up) sucked the poison out of her thumb. There was no evil witch: just a prophecy that she would fall asleep, which she did. The only evil person was the mum of the prince - who turned out to be an Ogress! Who tried to eat poor Sleeping Beauty and her two kids. Well, in the end, the prince kills the Ogress ( HIS MUM! I mean, he probably didn't look the way Philip does, if genes have anything to say in fairy-tales... ) and there's nothing said about living happily ever after. I suddenly think Phillip was actually kinda ok. Hey, I didn't even see the snakefight in Aladdin until recently, because when I was little I always fast-forwarded it. Allllllllllrighty then. I've never had a desire to be "Sleeping Beauty", that's probably a good thing. Taurquende wrote: I usually get mad when Disney edits stuff beyond recongnition, but in this case... I agree with you, Taur.

hopfully I'm not interrupting anything but...
yay! I finally got to see Aladdin yesterday! And me love it! I particularly loved Jasmine and Genie.... he was hilarious! Ooo, I'm so proud of myself.... I finally saw Aladdin, I finally saw Aladdin! T&T did it again! Another amazing screenplay.
Oh, I also watched Beauty and the Beast today... and I have to admit I was a little worried about it at first because when I was little it use to scare me (the whole enchanted castle thing, walking/talking lamps, clocks, ect, the beast all that ) but watching it again I was like "wow". The songs are amazing, it's a lot different than I remember it.
It seems that way with all the animated Disney classics though.... they have a different meaning now for me than they did before. I get more out of them now that I'm older and I can appreciate the other things I never noticed about them before. Weird, huh?

^Probably that's true. It's the same way for me and BatB - I couldn't watch it when I was little, but now it's one of my favorites.
Actually, now that I think about it, the only two Disney movies that I know for a fact didn't scare me or make me cry or anything when I was little were Peter Pan and Oliver & Company.

That thing about Sleeping Beauty is....more than a little really disturbing.
Hahah. I hid behind the couch in Snow White. But that was when I was four.
I like Aladdin a lot, now, as well--there's a ton of humour in there that little kids can't be expected to get, but which is (in my opinion) absolutely hysterical when you can finally understand it.

I'm happy you see it too! hmmm, a lot of the Disney movies scared me... if only a little bit. most of the Disney princess movies did... I can't remember Peter Pan ever scaring me or Robin Hood or the Jungle Book. and there are some I simply don't remember well enough to judge them at all. that's sad! Awww, how could you hate Disney? they're like the biggest children’s movie makers ever! lol I basically grew up on the animated Disney movies... I don't remember really watching any other movie. oh well....
Oh, you need to see it! it's a really good movie... although I found it interesting that it was nominated for 6 Academy Awards... an animated Disney children’s movie? at least it kind of struck me as a little funny...

Wow, I always thought I was just a coward. It's good to know I wasn't the only scared to death.

I don't know why, but the whole Sleeping Beauty thing makes me laugh. I mean, come on... what kind of story has all those aspects in it? No wonder Disney changed it.
I personally like Sleeping Beauty as it is. Of the Princesses-in-distress Disney films, this is my favourite. The Three Good Fairies, really make the film for me, and Prince Phillip actually isn't bad either. He's given a lot more to do than the other wet drips of Disney Princes.
Beauty and the Beast is my ultimate Disney film. And I have seen them all practically. It has one of the best stories, it has some of the best characters, a heroine who isn't annoying, and some wondeful songs. In my opinion, this is what Disney had been working towards all those years. I can easily see why it was nominated for so many Oscars, and for the first time an animated film nominated for Best Picture. It is more than just a kids film, there's just more to it than that. It's spectacular.

lol the last time i saw sleeping beauty was maybe 10 years ago. haha.
omgoodness i love hercules! it's so classic! it's so funny seeing cartoony greek gods!
Beauty and the beat is one of my favorites, but the beast didn't scare me, Gaston and Lafou did lol
My ultimate Disney movie has to be The Lion King. i basically grew up with that movie. all the music is great and all the characters make me happy! lol. i wish they didn't have to ruin it with making 1 1/2
does anyone like the jungle book? i for some reason have always hated that movie. i always found it to be boring. . .
