Välkommen, Velkommen, Velkomin and Tervetuloa to the Scandinavian Society!

'Tis be the place for all ye Scandinavians on this forum, as well as for anyone who has Scandinavian heritage or who is just a lover of all things Scandinavian in general :D

To get into the Scandinavian spirit, here is a lovely video I found on YouTube showing pictures from each of the 25 provinces of Sweden while playing the Swedish anthem "Du Gamla, Du Fria" ["You Old, You Free"]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-J5DcQrVwdw

Ja, jag vill leva
Jag vill dö i Norden!

Please state which Scandinavian country you're from or that you adhere to so I can add that to your name!

I have to join...no really. It's not just essential, it's quintessential.
:P

My heritage is of Norway. My attention was brought to the culture via a school project when I was very young. I later found out my family on my fathers side was descended from vikings. The rest is history.

I also have a deep love of Finland and Sweden.

So, I take it "Turisas" is a band...or something?

So, since I've never been to Norway, or any other Scandinavian country...would anyone like to elaborate on any of them?
I watched that YouTube movie...pretty cool! Be that Sweden then?
I've been planning to do a foreign exchange for years and was thinking of settling with New Zealand or the UK...but I think they also offered a place in Oslo...which could be fun! :bounce: And I do, apparently, have some distant relatives in Norway. Ha ha ha...I did hear...that in, well...at least Norway I think, and other Scandinavian countries...there's like a large population of women in top buisiness and political positions. True? Also, in my International Relations class...I heard they were probably the most peaceful and diplomatic countries in the world...alongside Costa Rica I think. :P Yay!

Turisas is a band indeed. A Finnish Metal band :D

Aye, the YouTube video be Sweden :) LoL it's kind of hard to elaborate unless I know what you'd like to know. Scandinavia is very liberal and equal. Lots of women in top positions and such. It's very common for men to stay at home with the kids while the woman works and housework/cooking is usually 50/50. The term housewife barely exists.

Mmmm...I think I'd fit right in there. :) And now, I'm beginning to understand where I get my liberal views...ha ha ha...well, at least I know it's sort of in my blood.

Haha absolutely :)

It's also very clean here. Towns and cities usually spend a lot of money in restoring buildings and keeping the streets as clean as possible. All waters are free from pollution and whatever you flush down the toilet does directly to large cleaning fascilities so whatever water that goes back into lakes and rivers is 100% clean!

Yes as Phoenix pointed out it is, the name comes from Iku-Turso, which is a sea monster and a god like living in the waters in Kalevala....

We've had these cleaning fascilities since the invention of the toilet I think, so we've always "been there" haha. People usually go fishing and swimming downtown Stockholm (which is a city built on islands so there is water everywhere!), it's that clean!

I was looking for this club in the Club Directory, but since Kit hasn't got around to update yet, I had to browse through 5 pages or so to find it...
I just think it's a shame that so many clubs must face a slow death as they gradually get pushed down to oblivion, soon after their bright birth...
