This is a poem I decided to write at a time when Im usually asleep. Tell me what you think of it please. Thank You.
In days of old
There lived the bold
Sons of Lion,
Forged in the mould
Of great Heracles himself,
Their nations strength was not in wealth,
Nor scholars wise across the board
But in their warriors skill with sword
Their Nation stood for a thousand years
And in mens hearts for many thousands more
Their peoples hearts were immune to fears
Their troops, were hardened from the core
For taught from youth, these noble men
Would o’er time fight o’er hill or fen
Many years have passed since then,
Since in that Pass they stood undaunted
There stood three hundred red cloaked Men
They were the Spartans, Highly Vaunted
For bravery, for strength, for might
They went not there for the sights
They saw before them,
Like a encroaching shadow
Xerxes massive army of Men
They came to deal the Greeks a blow
But despite the odds, Yet many there held
The Spartans at the fore, Their minds now fell
There many days, and many nights,
The Spartans and their allies resisted.
Their Iron blades, no longer bright
With foemans blood they now were misted
Their actions, they spoke louder than words
They carved their fame out using their swords
Yet seldom do the small defeat the large
The battle became a desperate last stand
The Persians, tired of charge after charge
They found a way to defeat the small band
This traitors name is spoken on the breeze
His name................Ephialtes
The end of this tale, is tragic perhaps
But still, It suited their warriors creed,
Yet there is but one thing of you I ask,
For which I would desire and plead
That though the worlds heart doth grow cold,
Remember these 300, men of honour,
That fought and died in days of old
