WARNING: Big huge colossal giant monstrous Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End spoilers ahead!!! If you don't wanna know then don't read!

So...basically I've gotten really attached to James Norrington over the last month or so. I felt absolutely terrible about his death, and the more I thought about it the worse it hurt. Finally the sadness culminated in this free-verse...poem...thing, which I hope doesn't suck too badly...

RIP Admiral Norrington, we won't forget you. :'(

Hero

James Norrington
you were a hero
though not all would think so
but the truth is
were it not for you
Will and Elizabeth
would never have been
together.
You loved her
enough to let her go
to be with him
He’s a pirate
though she had made you a promise
(a false promise)
you gave her up
to a pirate.
You wished them the best of luck
not knowing they’d need all they could get
and walked off
with your broken heart
to hunt a Sparrow.
But then you failed
everything was lost
crew
commission
and
life.
Not dead
but might as well be.
What has the world done to you?

Finally the Sparrow came out of hiding
and you joined him
she was there too
Elizabeth
After all she’d done
you still loved her
but now she was marrying him.
She was following Turner
Her latest fiance
but you knew there was a spark
between her and Sparrow
nothing that would last
but still a spark
a single
treacherous
spark.
The Chest is found
and so is Turner.
She looks so happy with him
your heart aches
she was almost yours...

And then the tide turned.
No longer a pushover
no longer a servant
The dark side of ambition
Get the heart to Beckett
get your life back
lead the Dutchman’s crew away
from the others
especially her...

You must have something to trade
The heart for the letters
your mission accomplished.
An old friend reappears
This is a beautiful sword
you have your life back
or do you?
Stationed on the Dutchman
you thought she was dead
but you find her again
alive
Elizabeth
You didn’t know her father was dead
you thought he’d left for England
Did Lord Beckett tell you that?
Now she thinks it was you
that you helped kill her father.
You didn’t know
which side you’d chosen.
Now you do.

You make a choice
you release them
all of them
Choosing a side
you lead them out
and let them go
I will follow
but the alarm is sounded
she must escape
she must
you have to let her go
this is your destiny
Our destinies were entwined, Elizabeth
You finally kiss her
softly
like the gentleman you are
all your life
you’ve waited for this
But never joined
It can never be
you know that
she knows that
she loves him
only him.

She starts to go
you cut the rope
you’ve saved her
your job is done.
She calls your name one last time
James!
You turn and then
pain
agony
darkness
closing in on you
your last act
a thrust of your sword
but you miss.
Jones is still alive
but soon you won’t be
one last gasp
one final thought
Elizabeth...
and then
no
more.

Some may forget what you did
but others
will always remember you.
Rest in peace
James Norrington
a hero
in life
and
death.

I really enjoyed reading your free poem. I flowed extremely well, was long but not too long, and it really caught the feel of the character, James Norrington, and the feeling of his once after his death. It was truely beutiful. Wonderful job! Thank you very much for sharing it with us. :)

Well, Drew said it all... that was a beautiful poem from our dear James' point of view! :'( absolutely lovely, Anie! You captured Norrie's thoughts and feelings to a T. (and I love how you mixed the quotes into your poem too) Well done! :-D

Thank you, PD! I'm glad you liked the quotes, it just started out as random but I've discovered I like italicized stuff in poems because it adds impact. :)
