History: Born in the city of Edoras, Brerwyn is one of six children. Her mother was a lady-in-waiting to the late Queen of Rohan before she died, and after the death of the Queen was allowed to stay in court. Her mother wishes for Brerwyn to become a lady-in-waiting to Lady Eowyn, but her daughter would much rather be a court singer and musician, as music is her passion. Unfortunately, her mother does not support this dream.

So many people, so much food and music and dancing. No one took any notice of Brerwyn as she darted about, singing along to songs she knew and listening intently at those she did not, trying to commit them to memory. The Hobbits' song had intrigued her the most, so different and yet so similar to what she was used to hearing in her own country. Oh, how she longed to travel, to go from one town to the next doing nothing but sing and learn new things along the way!

But, of course, with the war this was impossible. Safety was still far off and the Dark Lord had yet to be defeated. She doubted at this point she would ever get the chance.

Still, tonight wasn't the time to cry over lost dreams. A new song was struck up and Brerwyn once again began to dance. Never mind that she had no partner--in her mind, she was too young for that anyway. She could dance just as well by herself...or so she thought until she tripped over something and crashed to the floor.

No one noticed, but her pride stung a bit as she looked at the offending object--a crutch. That was strange. She looked up to see a boy around her age, also on the floor. Her face reddened. "Oh. I'm sorry. Is...is this yours?"

Colin's face also reddened as Berwyn looked at him. For a moment he was tongue-tied. Of all the people to see him on the floor--it had to be a girl, one about his age, too. Colin cast his eyes to the ground, and nodded. He reached out for the crutch, barely reaching it. He refused to look at the girl, continuing to stare down at the ground.

"Canyoupleasehandthattomeplease?" he mumbled, never slowing down.

"I love you too," Arabella breathed. They stood there for several moments, lost in their own little world, until finally Sam cleared his throat a bit awkwardly. "Mr. Frodo, Miss Arabella...do you think perhaps we ought to make camp?"

Brerwyn looked at the boy curiously, noting the bright crimson hue of his face and his apparent desire to get as far away from her as humanly possible. "Here," she said softly, handing him the other crutch. She brought herself up so that she was in a kneeling position, brushing the dirt and grime off of her skirt. She wasn't really sure what to say, but she was curious about this boy. She was nearly certain that she hadn't seen him before in Edoras...

"...Great party, huh?" she said awkwardly, casting her gaze to the floor.

Colin took the crutch, sliding it under his arm and standing up. He stared at the ground, wishing he could just disappear. He looked at the girl when she asked her question, and nodded dimly. "What's your name?" he asked, just a bit curious.

"I'm Colin," the boy said, smiling tentatively back. "Are you from Edoras here?" He didn't remember ever seeing Berwyn in his old town, and, if she had been there then she probably wouldn't have helped him. At all. Colin looked out at the crowd, watching them all dance and sing. He started to hum slightly to a tune he thought he knew.

"Yes, I am," she said, drawing herself up proudly. "My mother was a lady-in-waiting to the Queen before her death." She gave a little shrug. "She wants me to follow in her footsteps, but that's not where my heart lies. Try explaining that to her, though." Brerwyn trailed off, watching Colin as he watched the celebration unfold around him. "Do you like to sing?" she asked, catching him humming a few notes.

"Oh." Colin jerked his head up to look at Berwyn. "Oh, yeah. I mean yes. Yes, I do. A bit. Do--do you? Everyone in my old town didn't like it at all, and would just tell me to go away." He trailed off, wondering why he was even telling Berwyn all this. Maybe he should just go join Legolas and Amara, but he didn't just want to leave Berwyn here. It was a bit strange, talking with someone new after several weeks of being with the elves and hobbits and Aragorn. But he wanted to talk with someone other than his other companions. Meet someone new, like Berwyn. "I--I don't think your mother should want you to do anything at all," he said carefully, "But rather let you choose your own path along the way. It's your decision what you do, even if there. . .are some things that happen that you can't change."
