Well, the Hobbit isn't really a "history" of Middle-Earth. In fact, you don't really need it to explain anything...

The Sil gets not-so-many threads on there.

Maybe if you made one sub-forum for The Sil and The Hobbit together, and then made another sub-forum for his other works...that would be good....yes?no?.....:-p

Well I mentioned that, most likely, a good many more people have read the Hobbit over The Silmarillion. I understand the Silmarillion is important in that it provides the history of Middle-Earth, and the whole of Arda, from Creation to the Second Age. But the Hobbit is part of the narrative, and what ultimately spawned/stimulated the creation of the Lord of the Rings. :)

I think it would be great to have a Hobbit thread

o_O I was thinking the same thing, in fact I wondered why no one else had noticed it before! I think I made a thread on it... whoops but oh well it just shows how many people are noticing the lack of a hobbit sub-catergory it definatly deserves one!

Now do you guys mean a Hobbit section?

I would assume that the Hobbit could be soundly discussed in the [s]Misc. Book Discussion.[/s] I mean, Other Works by Tolkien

Kitoky I believe everyone (at least I do) mean a section like the Silmarillion has. Though it can be discussed in the misc section you get tons of posts about LotR in there (meaning it wouldn't all be about the hobbit). And to me the hobbit is just as important (if not more so) than the Silmarillion because it was what sparked the Lord of the Rings off in the first place. I really believe that it deserves it's own sub-catergory.

All right. :) I'll point this out and discuss it over with the other mods.

How about a sticky thread on the Hobbit to begin with?
I haven't seen that many topics concerning the Hobbit exclusively, so that might say something about the general interest. I wonder if it could fill out a whole sub-forum of its own.
Compared to the Silmarilion, the Hobbit is more of an independent and complete story. It has a plot; beginning, middle and ending, there and back again, so we don't have all the loose ends and unanswered questions about the many characters like in the Sil.

So a stickied thread could be se up already now while the [s]entmoot[/s] moderator discussion is going on, and it would probably give a hint to the actual interest on the Hobbit
