Let me guess-
King=Odin
Queen=Frigg
Jack=*drumroll* Loki! (of course...)
I just noticed something (after doodling Mjollnir, and making a 'Mjollnir rune') An ship anchor looks much like Mjollnir-and I've never hear tell of this comparison. My initial reaction-well of course, Scandinavians i.e. the early Norsemen, where mighty seamen. So is it coincedence, or were anchors based on Mjollnir, or vice-versa?

lol I think it was a different god or goddess for each of the "colors" of the deck. I haven't seen it for years, it's probably still in one of the boxes I haven't unpacked yet since we moved to our "new" house 5 years ago lol
That's really interesting about the ship anchor! I never paid attention to the similarities before but now that you say it... maybe it's not coincidence after all

Well, one does have to wonder why Mjollnir was made short-handled (nevermind how, that was an accident on part of Dvalin[I believe, if not then another dwarf], but there had to be a mythological explanation for everything back then!).
I've a question that needs answering, that perhaps you practicing Asatru out there could help me with: Where do/did women go/went after death? No doubt there were Ar-Wens amongst the Northern folk, but the most of them, I'm guessing, wouldn't have died in battle seeking glory! Nothing suggests they go to Valhalla, yet nothing suggests they go to Hel either! Could you help me? And do the rules for entry into Valhalla still apply for neo-odinism? So, do men (or women...) still have to do glorious deaths, or is there another concept of the afterlife altogether?
(I'm really curious, I'm sorry! I'm just observing various forms of neo-paganism (a very broad term, something a Christian would use).

All women go to Freyja's hall Sessrumnir. Half of the Einherjer go there also.

Einherjer or Einherjar are the spirits of the warriors who died bravely in battle

Ah, I keep forgetting about Freja!! And I can't believe that's past me before. Should have realized...
So! What aspect of this most excellent of faiths should we turn to now?

Hmm... how about... discussing how we first got into this awesomest of faiths in the first place? How were we introduced to it.. when did we first hear about it.. what made us choose it.. etc?

Ooo yah. I like that question.
When I was in Primary school (about 6 or 7) our class did a project about the Vikings. Kinda forgot about it till I was about 8, my mum and dad were given a family geneaolgy for there Anniversary and it traced back to Vikings that travelled to Scotland and settled here.Again time passed and it slipped from my mind. Occasionally I'd think about it and I'd just beam with pride. I never understood why.
When I was about 11/12 I was going through a lot of really tough personal stuff (which I'll not bore or depress anyone with). I turned initially to Buddhism, which a few years later I became interested in Wicca/Witchcraft. A couple of years along that path I began to realise it wasn't for me. I was never comfortable with that choice (although a lot of there ideals still holds true for me), I began investigating other Pagan beliefs and I read about Asatru and it all fell into place. That was 4 years ago and I've never looked back.
I believe I always was Asatru, I just had to partake a particular journey to get to where I am now with it. even now I'm still very much a novice and have a long, long way to go in my spiritual journey.

Awww what an awesome story Raivynn!
I was raised on and grew up with the old Scandinavian folktales and legends and obviously living in Sweden there are Viking remains all over the place so I was always subconciously surrounded by Asatru and the Norse Mythology. In 4th grade (when I was 10) we studied Asatru/Norse Mythology at school and I instantly fell in love with it and I remember wishing that Sweden should never have been forced to convert to Christianity some 900 years ago. I didn't embrace the faith as my religion at this point but it became one of my main interests and influences throughout my entire teenagehood and still is today. I turned atheist when I was around 10-11 and remained so until fairly recently when I finally embraced Asatru for real and I finally feel like I've come home. This is the faith Sweden and the whole of Scandinavia was robbed of. The reason it feels so right is that it's "our" religion. It originates from home. Not the Middle-East.
