Gwen:
only to reiterate, there is that onepoint where Jack ahs angel Jakc and devil Jack on his shoulders. Angel Jack is saying, hey give it up, they saved you just give in your piece of eight and thats that. Devil Jack is saying, but if YOU kill Davy Jones, you won't have to die EVER again, and you'll be immortal!
And at that point Jack is fascinated by the idea, and decides that yes, he wants to be the one that kills Davy, when the time comes to do so, at first he hesitates, giving the whoel thign a second thought, and then he has to hesitate again because he has to choose his own immortality and happiness over saving Will's life, and of course, he does the more noble thing.

I loved it how Jack was able to give up the thing that he wanted the most- immortality- for Will. (And in turn, Elizabeth, I suppose.) It really shows how much his character has grown. I love it when all of the other crew are coming up with plans on how to fight the Armada, and Jack just tells them all to "shut it" and "belay", as he is waiting for Will to show up. That whole scene was incredible.
*sobs* I wish I had the DVD. I'm going to go broke going to the theater at every possible time I can spare three hours.

I guess I have to re-train my ears to Tia's speech. It probably would have made the movie clearer for me.
Meldawen-I hope you are right. It certainly makes a more palatable ending for me-at least the two would be able to spend more time together. Like I said...what I know...I know because of PotR and yes, I think it would be an icky ending if he got to see her every ten years for one night. I mean, yeesh, what kind of a marriage is that?! If I were Elizabeth I'd throw myself off a cliff, pretend to be drowning until Will came along, and then when he said "Do you fear death?" I could conveniently say "Why, yes I do!" and be immortal with Will and sail around rescuing dead people. w00t. Gilraen Ringeril wrote: The end scene is on YouTube?? Tell me WHERE??? I dunno, I searched for "At World's End end scene" and after a bit of poking around I got it. Horrible quality, but it was visible if not much else.

They indeed had some crazy theories online previous to the film's release, didn't they? I am glad that those were just rumors rather than spoilers though. If that had happened I would have been writting letters to Ted and Terry. (laughs)
What I usaly do is just choose what to think about movies/televsion/books based on my own opinion and the facts that I have. However when it comes to Pirates of the Caribbean what Pirateoftherings shares with us comes into play as well. I was allready leaning towards Will would be able to come back after the ten years were up (if Elizabeth remained faithful to him). So when Pirateoftherings backed it up, it only confirmed it for me. Therefore that is the theory that I will stand behind.
Elenriel Greenelaf, You are very welcome.
Gwenneth, First of all, welcome to this thread. It's is always nice to see a new face around here.
The way I take it, Jack's goal was to obtain immortality. By killing Davy Jones he would gain immortality. See the curse would be broken if the love of their life remained faithful to them for ten years. However Jack's only love is the sea. So he would have nobody to break the curse for him. Therefore he would spend eternity ferrying the dead. There were many scene in the movie were they would show "good Jack" and "bad Jack" on our Jack's shoulder and they would debate whether or not to stab the heart of Jones, because there were pros and cons to stabbing it. However when Will was stabbed Jack gave up what he wanted most in the world (immortality) to save Will's life. Now that right there is a friend. Yes, I am a Jack fan now.

Johnny's Fan answered this a couple of posts above, Gwenneth.
You see, she needed them to set her free because they had the other pieces. It makes a lot more sense watching DMC now because remember when they're talking about bringing Jack back Tia Dalma quickly and impatiently asks, "Would you do it?"

Great idea! I was wondering if she would actually do something like that, before I knew about how the curse was broken. I would have done it!
I guess I'll just have to keep looking then!
I think I will have to watch DMC again soon, and then go and see AWE again I think it would make things so much more clear
And then when AWE comes out on DVD, I'll have a marathon...all three in a row!

About the jumping into the water idea for Elizabeth. Don't think that would work...
I don't believe that Will is even coming back into this world at the moment. He ferries souls that are already dead, he doesn't take them into death if that makes sense.
He would be asking, "do you fear death?" because that was Davy Jones's thing that he was doing instead of ferrying the souls (which made him tentacle face).
So really if Elizabeth jumped off of a cliff she would either realize Will wasn't coming or she would die finally die from drowning and then Will would have to ferry her soul to the next world and they'd be worse off than before...
I think.

^ Yeah, but Will still needs a crew. And Bootstrap stayed with Will to sail for him. I'm still very confused about what Will is supposed to do with his new found immortality. I got the impression that he's just going to go around rounding up people who are dying and take them to the other-world. Correct me if I'm wrong, please!

^Thats basically it, ferrying souls tot he other side. A bit like the river Styx in Egyptian mythology.

Taurquende, I don't know that he needs a crew...
Like The Queen of Angmar said, that's basically it. I don't think he rounds up people who are dying though. He rounds up the souls of those who are already dead. I'm pretty sure he stays in that other world and he's not going back and forth at all.

The Flying Dutchman in sailing mythology had probably been around for many years, but when Davy Jones turned "wrong" it was no longer a myth. He was no longer doing his job, so he was on this side of the world. Had he been doing his job - collecting those who had died and taking them to where they needed to be - he would have been on that side of the world. Will is going to be doing his job, so there'll be no sightings of the Dutchman for ten years at least.
Thanks to Davy Jones, Will has a crew. I'm sure the men who were part of Jones' crew will still be on the ship, because like Bootstrap they made a deal to prolong death. Whether this deal still stands I don't know, but all those men looked pretty chipper considering some of them must have been in his service for many years. Perhaps they no longer have to fear becoming part of the woodwork, but they are still members of the crew.

^Exactly. And if you read back a bit(well, more like a lot), Davy was supposed to stay on the other side, but since he wasn't, he and his crew went all fish-like. Thats why Wil's crew stayed normal, because they were doing their job properly. And if remember, when they were in the locker, waiting to go back, Tia saw the souls in the water and she said something about Davy Jones being amiss/not doing his job or something to that effect.

Yep. That was his punishment. his curse almost. And when we saw all the bodies of those who had died at sea (I think that's who he was meant to take care of) Tia Dalma did say something about the fact they were lost or something because of him. It was quite sad really.
