I haven't actually read the book, but apparently it's one of Peter Jackson's favourites. Actually, it made him cry, and now he's going to make it into a movie. The book doesn't exactly sound like my type of literature, but I think I'm going to read it anyway before the movie comes out in December. It really does look like a beautiful piece of work.

It looks amazing. I've read part of the book and I'll have to start over. There's a strong magical realism theme going on with this movie, and it looks like it's going to be very very good. And the main actress is stunning as well, and Mark Wahlberg always gives good performances.

Never read the book (never even heard about it til recently). But I saw the trailer for this before The Time Traveler's Wife a couple of weeks ago. At first I was like... "sheesh, this sounds freaky." but as I watched more it started catching my attention more... 'cause it's really mysterious and intriguing sounding. Also I was a encouraged when I saw that PJ directed it.

The magical realism part of it is definitely what's got me interested. I mean, it's definitely a creepy book, and I expect it to be a creepy movie, but it looks like it's going to have some very beautiful scenes in it as well. Very exciting. :)

Did you see it yet, Larael?
I've finally seen some trailers and read about the movie... without understanding what it's about.... quite bad... The only thing I got was that Peter Jackson is directing... :-)

And what about the Time Traveler's Wife... I've seen the book everywhere now... what's it about?

This doesn't come out until the end of January in the UK. I didn't think it was out yet - I haven't heard any hype yet. :P

The Lovely Bones is out in Australia, probably because Peter Jackson is the director. The Aussies seem to like everything PJ. :-) I'm not sure whether it opened here... I don't think it did though... hmm... might not have reached Europe yet...

I would have thought New Zealanders would have been more likely to rave about PJ than the Australians... but they're all from the same part of the world, so I guess the Australians are just as pleased about his sucess as the New Zealanders are. :teehee:

Well judging by other film releases, you'll probably be behind the UK when it comes to release dates.

I saw it about 2 weeks ago... it's not creepy at all, but it's really powerful. Good movie.

I wanted to see this movie...kinda, but after reading PluggedIn's review, I was like, "nope." too spiritually muddled if you ask me. Only bright side is PJ is directing it.

I'll wait for the dvd.

Yup, I think that's it... he's from that far-away part of the world, the hero of the Southern hemisphere... he was actually knighted over the holidays but I don't know by whom.

I'm just gonna have to wait until the movie comes out here to decide whether to see it or not... perhaps more people will post opinions soon.

He was knighted by the Queen actually. She can do that as he's part of the Commonwealth. :teehee:

Yeah, I was about to say it was the Queen of England. I think it's pretty cool he was knighted....along with Patrick Stewart (aka Captain Picard). I wonder why celebs are knighted anyways.

I thought so... to me this Commonwealth-thing is just so very strange and distant... I mean it's there but then it's not really there anymore.. very confusing, and then the Queen of England goes about knighting people who are as far away from Britain as can possibly be... And I never thought of NZ to be a part of the Commonwealth anyway.. but then I again when I think about it I know embarressingly litte about NZ-history and I've never bothered to even consider their national history anyway... :P

The Commonwealth is actually a pretty awesome thing. It's very important to the people of the Commonwealth, especially the smaller Caribbean islands who look at the Queen and Great Britain as something to be proud of, and something wonderful. The Commonwealth is still there, Great Britain may not rule the countries of the Commonwealth like in the days when it was the British Empire, it is now founded on friendship and sharing of traditions. There are very close bonds between Great Britain and the Commonwealth and also a bond between all the countries who are part of it. They have aided us since WWI and fought for Great Britain, and we have aided them, as they are still are "charges" even if we no longer govern them.

It is a far more important than being a part of the European Union and it is something that is much more celebrated by all members.

Australia, Canada and New Zealand are also part of the Commonwealth, so anyone from those countries can call themselves a Dame or a Knight if they have been dubbed by the Queen. Unlike members from other countries, who would never be able to call themelves "Knight", it would just be an honour. No note paper saying "Sir Steven Spielberg" for him I'm afraid. ;)

I see, I see and thanks for the explanation. Nice to hear it from a Brit. I've heard other versions less patriotic but it's interesting with different opinions. :-)
