Very bad news....
We're not doing the Greeks anymore in Classics! *dies* We're doing the Romans instead... *sniff* But only for one module... Then we go back to the Greeks

Oh poor you, Hravan! For some reason I always preferred the Greeks to the Romans in every way. Not that I dislike the Romans, no, I am actually very fascinated by them. But well, my heart belongs to the Greeks
I think I'm a little angry at the Romans tho, because they simply took the greek mythology for their own, instead of coming up with own ideas.

^ I prefer the Greeks because, imo, they are more civilized than the Romans. Not that the Romans are cave people or anything, but beneath the wealth (or no wealth?), there's this brutish barbarianism.
Alliteration ftw!

Indeed, that's on my mind as well every time when I think of the Romans. Their whole world seems to be about power, land and money, whereas the Greeks seem way more civilized with their philosophy, their politics and their whole lifestyle.
And what is the most, to come back to mythology, that the roman Emperors after death were thought of as gods as well. So every... at least every 20 years there comes a new god to adore for the Romans!

Plus, the Romans just stole the Greek gods and renamed them. The Greek names are way better, much more lyrical and romantic. Everything about the Romans, it seems, (like the language, their behavior, etc) seems harsh/vulgar and stilted.
Have a little creativity!

The Greeks (well Athenians really) were just as brutal as the Romans and just as greedy for power, land and money.... How do you think they would be able to afford all their philosophy if they didn't protect their wealth and try to increase it? The Romans are just more famous for warfare.... Check out the Peloponnesian War for an example....

Well, surely the Greeks were no holy people, in antiquity it was just impossible to not think about such things as power, land and money. If you just take the Trojan war, not the mythology war, but the war that took place at around 1200 bc, it was all about power, about trade, about getting richer. They, the Greek monarchies, started this particular war simply because they wished for more money, and they united to reach this goal.
Antiquity was a very dangerous time, actually there was never truly peace at any time. On the one side the Persians attacked during the 'Golden Age' of the Greek antiquity, as well as there were conficts among the Greek people, between their city states, as in the Peloponnesian War.
Philosophy is no question of money, if you take Socrates or other men, who were as poor as they only could be, they got not a single coin from the government because they were thought of as crazy men.
But anyways, I can't think of as many examples of the Greeks starting a war for their own profits as I find for the Romans. That's why the Romans are more famous at warfare, with conquering the larger part of Europe, and owning provinces in Asia and Africa.
Well, it is difficult to make a plus-minus-list on this topic, it simply is that I came to acknowledge the Greeks as being more philosophicated. I can't help liking them more than the Romans

Oh, I know the Greeks were out for their best interests.. I don't know, maybe I'm deluded or something. It just seems like, even for their love of warfare as much as civilized life, the Greeks did it all with more grace than did the Romans.
