Haven scowled a second at his now empty hand, then shrugged the annoyance off. The bottle had been emptied anyway. "Worried?" He shook his head and chuckled, though not humorously. "You have no idea what it is to worry, Lilith. Why don't we switch places for a while, then maybe you'll get an inkling." He gave her a sarcastic look.

She crossed her arms and raised her brow, "Well then perhaps you could explain it, Master Haven. Because you walking about and saying we do not understand does not help. And we want to help you," she said, standing and placing a hand on his should, "or we would not have been here in the first place." Her hand dropped and she sighed and she sat back on the cot, she had tried, it took a lot of effort for her to get up enough gumption to attempt to make a connection. And it was all relayed in that simple gesture, she was breaking her own barrier and she could only hope that he would do the same.

He stared hard at the maps sprawled across his desk and shifted slightly in his chair. After a silence, he spoke. "Do you have any idea what it's like to lead people so blindly, Lilith? Every move I make, that bloody hell-bound tyrant has a counterpoint ready for my. There are lives in my hands... I can try to lead them, true, and try to keep them safe, but at the end of the day I am powerless... The only one I can truly keep safe is Waverly... But now I'm not even supposed to do that, am I? Suddenly I'm the bad guy here."
He ran a hand over the yellowing paper and sighed. "Every day he moves closer... I know in my heart that it's only a matter of time before he finds us here... This can't last. I'm leading a lost cause."

"Would you have her locked here and not be able to truly live, Master Haven? She resents your protection, I believe, because how is she supposed to protect you when you leave? Remember well, that you too are her only family. Now, I will say nothing on the subject of her in battle for that is not my place, but I will say that the cause is not lost so long as there are those who will see it through to the end. The lives of these men are in their own hands, they decided to join the resistance. They can leave if they choose. We all of us worry for the lives of our comrades. I do not lead, Master Haven. But, I do observe, and you are a good leader. No matter your own thoughts on the matter. There would not be so many here to defend the cause if you were not leading strongly. We will find a way to prevail, I belive it with all my heart. You once did too, didn't you?"
She finished her speech strongly, surely. Sometime during its course she had stood up again, and her hand had returned to Haven's shoulder reassuringly. There was no room for doubt in her voice. Her brown eyes shined with some hope that she drug out of the depths of her being. As quickly as the pride came it fell. Her face softened to an indescribable emotion and her hand slipped from his shoulder.
She nodded to Haven, her face burning at the loss of control on her emotion. "I hope that will help you, Master Haven," she said awkwardly turning to the door to leave.

Haven looked at her a bit dumbfounded. She... she actually understood. She knew. Something about her words stirred his heart, restoring the faith he had once had in the rebellion. Hope leaped up in his chest.
"Lilith, wait..." He rose from his chair and grabbed her hand. So often was he serious or scowling that the slight tug of a smile that came onto his lips seemed wholly unnatural. "Thank you." He gave her hand a little squeeze.
"It's people like you that we fight for, you know."

She smiled back earnestly at the man, her own hear sang to see him so happy. The rest should be seeing this, it would bring their spirits up. For a moment she felt selfish keeping it all to herself, but then she felt she earned it. Lilith fought to govern her spirits, but a happy laugh escaped her lips. She shook her head and looked down at her hand in his, it looked so strange.
Lilith nodded, blushing a deep red. "I am glad to have been of service, Master Haven. Your smile gladdens me," said. She smiled again and opened the door, slipping her hand from his, but not before returning the squeeze. "I am glad for your protection, Master Haven. As are all of us."

Haven's heart felt strange in his chest. "I... I value your council, my friend," he murmured, then leaned closer with a knowing smile and added even quieter, "Others do wring to assume your knowledge does not extend beyond the healing of your hands." He found himself wishing she wouldn't leave; it was strangely comforting to have her nearby. He felt less alone with only her talking to him then he would have felt had he had all his men at his side.
Haven released her hand and shoved the thought aside, his stern expression returning to his face. "Goodnight, and thank you, Lilith," he said quietly, then slowly shut the door once she'd left.

Lilith was sure her heart would beat out of her chest. She could feel the flush of her cheeks and fought hard to keep it in control. "Stupid, stupid, Lilith," she scolded herself. This would not do at all. A healer needed to be impartial, it was why so many of her profession refused marriage or relationships. They did not breed impartiality. It was the first thing she had been taught during her apprenticeship. She had to keep her emotions in check or they would interfere with her work. And if that was the case then people could die.
The woman went and slumped onto a bench, it had been a long day, she must be over weary. As if on cue a man from the bar set a glass of red wine in front of her. Lilith gave him a kind smile and took the glass from his hand, rolling the stem between her fingers and took a soothing sip of the drink.

(woops, sorry. My net did not refresh . Sure thing. But, like Sojo said, it's only two characters, nothing important really.)

Haven groaned, silently giving himself a similar scolding. He'd had enough failures in the area of women to know that relationships simply didn't fit into his leadership position. He didn't have time for such ridiculous -
He groaned again. His heart didn't seem to find it so 'ridiculous' at the moment. It was twinging in strange ways he didn't recognize, and Haven spent a few moments sifting through his things before finding another stash of liquor to drowned his thoughts in.
It was going to be a long night.

Keith groaned inwardly as Lilith tried to intervene. Something had to be settled between the two men. Now and then. Eventhough he didn't realise what exactly. Coward he whispered in Maverick's ear just before the latter bumped into him. Kieth stumbled and tried to control his balance but it was alreday too late. With a loud bang he fell on the ground onto his bad leg. For a moment Keith remained to lay still on the dirty floor and with closed eyes he thanked the Heaven's that Lilith wasn't around anymore for he realised that his stitches started bleeding again.
While slowly standing up Keith noticed how dead tired he was. Obviously the confrontation with Maverick had cost him more strength and effort than he thought it would.
And all the time the last words of Haven echoed through his head: "Watch your back on the battlefield". He now felt the force of this threat and hesitated whether he would retire to his lonely cabin already.
He staggered over to the place where Ronin was comforting Waverly, tried to forget Haven's threat and forced a smile on his pale face. "How are you?" he asked her quietly.

Waverly turned and gave him a reassuring smile. "Fine... fine," she replied, glad for the dim light that hid the mark on her face. She looked him over, dismayed by the blood on his leg and the paleness of him. Her hand gently held his forearm. "Keith, you're bleeding... What happened?" A tinge of anger swept over her face. "What'd he do to you?"

"It's nothing. Nothing happened," Keith reassured her quickly. Not only didn't he want her too be alarmed about something which he considered as a silly bit of blood but moreover he didn't want her to become familiar with the words and actions of her cousin. He'd hurt her enough already.
"You ought to get some sleep." Keith brushed with his hands over her golden hair. "We all should" he added realising that how tired his body was. "It was an eventful night. Lets hope the morning will be friendlier."

Ronin smiled at the two and pushed himself off the floor and gave Keith a look that cleary said he needed to keep up with his leg. "See to your leg at some poin Keith. You'll be useless if it doesnae heal correctly. That and Lilith will have my head if I knew that you were not taking care o' yourself and said nothing about it," he said with a jovial laugh. With that he spotted his sister leaving Haven's room, he could not decide if she was blushing or red with anger. But, knowing Haven probably the latter.
He took two quick strides to his sister's side. "I say mine was a success. Just put those two near eachother and they light up like oil lanterns," he said happily. "Did yours turn out well?"
Lilith nodded and looked up at her brother, "I believe it did. But, who knows? We will see if it truly impacted in the morning, won't we?"
Ronin nodded, "I agree. Now! For the best part of my day. Sleep."
Lilith rolled her eyes at the comment despite the fact that she felt very much the same about rest right now.
