[[Agh, sorry, PD! :headwall: ]]

Elaine took a shuddering breath and tried to regulate her breathing. She knew it did no good to blame herself, and yet out of instinct, in the back of her mind she wondered if she had done something wrong. Perhaps yelling at Cutler wasn't the best way to resolve the obvious problem, but it would do no good to sit there and pretend as though nothing happened. "I don't know what to do anymore," she gasped. "It was so much easier when he was but a child..." But the fact was, Cutler was indeed growing up and Elaine wasn't ready to think about giving him up just yet.

-----------
Mr. Cantrell gave Cutler a hard pat on the back and a smile before heading over to the table to prepare dinner, and left the kids to get to know each other. Deep down, he could care less how they felt about this new boy; it was time to relax after a hard day's work for little money.

Keyara's reaction was somewhat similar to Cutler's... that... that snobby rich kid sharing her room? The one place she could have some privacy? Wonderful. Of course only her foster father would have such stupid ideas. "Look," she spoke softly, "I don't know what you're doing here, but it sounds like you're going to be staying for a while, so I think it would be best if we at least pretended to get along."

(that’s ok, guys… I just wanted to make sure that RWTT hadn’t died. ;))

Anthony thought over his wife’s words. He had never considered his son to be much more than a child in the first place. The thought of his boy becoming a man was impossible. He stood back, sighed, closed his eyes and rubbed the palm of his hand across his forehead, thinking. He was flustered, worried and stressed. He looked back down at his wife and nodded. “It’s not our fault,” he finally said yet again. “Cutler may be growing up, but he’s still our son. Ours,” he emphasized it as if convincing himself too, “growing up means talking reasonability for your actions as well. Something he didn’t do today when he simply walked out.” He glanced around Elaine and to his study, he couldn’t keep his friend waiting for too long, but what about the state of his wife? And where was that son of his?

___________________

Culter watched as his only barrier against that girl walked over and left him there alone with her. He kept his eyes on Mr. Cantrell. He didn’t want to look at that girl or encourage her to say something. He wasn’t afraid of her, but he didn’t want to get near her. She was probably filthy or… or worse. Who knew what she did. He shuddered. She was the kind of girl his mother told him to never talk to, wasn’t she? At least, he said to himself, I’m feeling better now. I can hold my own against her, of course. She's only a simple girl. I won’t let her or the small, uncomfortable aspects of this house deter me. This is suppose to be my night of adventure, right? You can handle this, Cutler, you just have to get a hold of yourself. Cutler ignored Keyara when she tired to talk to him, deciding from that moment on that he would not talk to her all night. He could talk to the other two. He didn’t need to waste his time on this girl. He walked over to Mr. Cantrell and sat down on a hard wood chair by the small table.

Elaine still wasn’t so sure, but she decided to accept her husband’s words. Now she could only hope that Cutler was alright out there by himself, and that he had found someplace safe to spend the night. Her tears were beginning to dry upon her cheeks as she swept strands of hair back from her face. “Go on, Anthony; you have business to take care of. I’ll be alright.” Elaine forced a smile, although happiness was the farthest thing from how she felt inside.

-----------

Keyara felt her blood boil at his reaction. It was rude, of course, but did she really expect anything less from him? She was about to say something nasty in response, but decided to be the bigger person and try to get along, even if deep down she couldn’t stand him. It was only a matter of time until he left her territory and went back to his own. The earlier he would leave, the better; in her eyes, he wasn’t welcome at all. Fixing her dirtied dress, she walked over to the table and sat down in the seat closest to Cutler, knowing it would drive him to wit’s end. She unfolded a napkin and set it on her lap, also being careful not to rest her elbows on the table, which had become a bad habit for her. She would make him wonder and play mind games the entire night if possible instead of waging another verbal war between them. Glancing over at him from the corner of her eye, Keyara felt a smirk creeping across her face before she took a refined sip of water from the glass before her.

[[I’ll bring the other two in again soon - you’re going to have Cutler be there more than just one night, aye? Because it’ll take some time for them to get along at the rate this is going. ;-) ]]

Anthony looked back down and into his wife's eyes and noticed that Elaine seemed to be calming down and collecting herself. He was happy to see that at least. It was what she needed, not to mention it was what he needed right now to with his old friend waiting in the study and every other stress piling down on him. The last thing he had wanted was her remaining worked up all night. She was a good wife like that. She wasn’t one of those hysterical women who cried all day and needed smelling salts all the time. Or, at least, he had never seen her that way. “Are you you sure, Elaine?” he asked, still concerned for her sake but inside he started wondering if maybe this would be good for Cutler after all. He kissed her on the forehead, not waiting for a reply before making his way to his study.

________________

Cutler tried not to notice as Keyara took a seat as close to him as was possible. What was wrong with this girl? Out of the corner of his eye he watched her. He didn’t want to show her that he was outright devoting any attention to her whatsoever, but he couldn’t help but keep at least one eye on her. He told himself that it was for his own safety. He only wanted to make sure she didn’t do anything stupid like try to punch him again. When he noticed Keyara had been looking his way, however, he quickly turned his attention back on the wood table. What was that? Had she been… smiling at him? Laughing at him? What was she doing? He wondered if their war was still going on, but this time taking place in the mind. Oh-ho, he could play that way. She didn’t want to get into that kind of war. He tried to suppress a grin, but couldn’t quite so he turned away and focused his attention on some inanimate object on the wall.

(hmmm, I guess so… :erm: some problem could arise so he has to stay there for longer. lol, I know! This is great! More eye tag too… :P

[[It's Will! *dies of happiness* Well, so far what's happened is Cutler (Beckett, that is) got into a fight with his mother Elaine and stormed out of the house. He made his way into the poor parts of town, where he met Keyara, and the two got into a verbal and physical fight because of their status (him being rich, and her being poor). Keyara walked off when the fight was broken up by James Norrington and the others and Cutler met up with a redcoat named Nathanial Cantrell, who told Cutler he could come to his house and stay the night. Unbeknownst to Cutler, Mr. Cantrell is the foster father of Keyara and he has a son of his own named Oliver Cantrell.... so now they're eating dinner and you can read over the few last posts. ;-)

Meanwhile, Anthony Beckett (Cutler's Father) came home to his wife Elaine distraught over Cutler leaving. As they talk about what to do, a Lord Bellings, Anthony's business friend, is waiting in the study for Anthony to return so they can discuss a promotion of sorts.

I'm not really sure what everyone else including Jack is doing because honestly, I've not been paying much attention to the other aspects of the roleplay... I don't know where you can jump in either, but we would love to have you! And you should check out Back to World's End too... that RP is getting really fun/crazy/suspensful. :D ]]

[[Wow, sorry for the delay... I knew I had posted on here, but I forgot that I didn't post the actual story along with it. ]]

Elaine nodded and watched Anthony go as she breathed a last, shuddering sigh. Wherever Cutler was, she prayed he was all right, and hopefully had found somewhere safe to spend the evening.

---

Lord Bellings had seated himself in a comfortable, velour arm-chair facing the fireplace. In his left hand was a glass of brandy and his right was tapping the arm of the chair as he waited for his longtime friend to join him. He had begun humming a British tune out loud, when the large, wooden double-doors creaked open. Turning, he smiled briefly. "I trust everything has been taken care of, Mr. Beckett?"

-----------

Keyara hardly noticed her foster father set the food on the table; she was much too interested in this game she was playing with Cutler to eat. With a smooth swipe of her arm, she 'accidently' knocked her cutlery off of the table and onto the floor. "Whoops." Smirking, she bent down to pick it up and made a point of brushing against his leg as she took her seat again. If there was anything Keyara knew about boys this age, it was that they all thought about one thing - and why not play the seduction card? She made sure that the sleeves of her dress hung off her shoulders and made eye contact once again.

(hehe, that’s ok, Ara. ;) I sorta figured something like that had happened. ;))

“yes, yes everything has been handled,” Anthony walked over to his friend and sat down in one of the comfortable arm chairs positioned beside the one Lord Bellings was sitting in. He stared into the fireplace for a moment, letting the fire mesmerize his mind and soothe him. He finally turned back to his friend after the silence. “I see you found the brandy,” he said with a smile and a motion of his hand towards the glass. He was trying to make light conversation before getting down to business. Also he was first trying to get the trying deal with his wife and son out of his mind.

____

Cutler was sitting rigid in his chair during Keyara's antics. He slowly glared over at her and kept his focus firmly on her, giving her a horrible scowl. Despite himself though, he couldn’t help but noticed that she was, in fact, a rather pretty girl. But nothing for him. She was dirt, he kept telling himself and when she turned to look at him again he looked back down to his plate. Maybe she would choke on her food and die, he thought, although he admitted to himself that that was a lightly childish thought. He cleared his throat and looked back at her. "Perhaps," he leaned in close to her and whispered, "Keyara, you should go change your gown into something more presentable as the normal women of society do. Instead of flaunting yourself around like that." He sat back down in his chair and smiled sweetly at her.

[[Not only that, but school happened as well. :annoyed2: ]]

"Ah yes," Lord Bellings smiled, swishing the brandy around in the glass. "I do hope it isn't a problem; it's quite good actually." He glanced at his seemingly aged friend. "You seem worried... has something happened with Cutler? I couldn't help but overhearing..."

-----------

[[Ha ha, "choke on her food and die"... Brilliant! ]]

For a moment or two, Keyara didn't know whether to take Cutler's comment as serious or some sort of odd joke. She blinked at him for a few moments, deciding on an appropriate reply. "Why? I cannot see why women would want to waste precious time dolling up... I think a natural appearance is far more attractive, wouldn't you agree?" She curled a lock of dirty-blonde hair and offered a sweet smile of her own in return, waiting to see what his response would be.

(yeah, that’s for sure… :eyeroll: but whatever… at least all the PotC Rps seem to be back in order. :D)

Anthony grinned at his friend, “No, no problem at all. My brandy is always welcome to old friends. And thank you.” He knew his brandy was some of the best you could get in London. There was no question on the matter, but he was flattered nevertheless. “Ah,” he looked back at the fireplace before turning it gaze on his friend, “no, it’s nothing really. It’s just what any boy his age goes through.” he forced a smile, he knew his friend would be able to relate to what he said. And that was all the truth he needed on the matter. Anthony stood up and went over to the fine, crystal jar which held the brandy. He pulled the top off and poured himself some in one of the superior glasses.

______

(hehe, glad you like it, Ara… :teehee: just voicing Cutler’s opinion and thoughts here… :P lol, this is great.)

Cutler continued to watch her, he knew that he had stumped her at least for a few minutes. Mentally, he marked down one point for him, Keyara was still at zero. At least that was how it was in his own mind. He cocked his head on the side and continued to give her his sweetest face. However, he soon turned very serious, all for her sake, of course. “No, I would not agree. Women need to look presentable at the dinner table or at least like they made an effort if they‘re too poor to do better. A natural appearance such as yours only alludes to the possibility of you being,” he paused as if he was floundering for the right words when in fact he wasn’t. He just wanted to add emphasis to this next part, “well, a strumpet.” He ended matter-of-factly and turned his attention to his silverware. He began arranging it in the proper way, pleasing to the eye.

Lord Bellings had turned back to the fire and became lost in the burning embers. "Ahh, well, as long as everything has been taken care of. Otherwise, I trust everything has been going well..." He glanced back at Anthony for a brief moment. "I believe we have the matter of a promotion to discuss." Of course, Lord Bellings would not deny his friend the position of head of the East India Trading Company, but because of the regulations and policies set forth, he had to be sure this man was worthy of possessing such an occupation.

[[Hope that's good... at least that way, the EITC can be linked in before it's Cutler's turn to own it. ;-) ]]

-----------

Keyara inwardly made a face, but understood exactly what Cutler was doing - trying to degrade her and tell her she wasn't worthy of a wealthy life or any of the luxuries that had probably been handed to him from birth. How was she supposed to help her social status? "Hmm. I must say I find it quite hurtful that you have recieved such an opinion of me." She pulled a pouty expression, even letting tears well in her eyes; it always worked on her father and foster-brother, and teachers when she once attended school.

"Cutler... I'm... appalled you would even say something like that..." Mr. Cantrell said, glancing at the boy who had (seemingly) made his foster daughter start to cry.

Jack's eyes popped out a little and he straightened up, flashing her a toothy grin. He whipped his hat off his head and gave a low bow.

"Of course you don't mean it, luv. Now why don't you just run along and introduce me to your lovely family?" he made a shooing motion with his hand, and then stumbled ahead of her, singing loudly at the top of his lungs, to his very own version of "A Pirate's Life For Me."

"Ah yes," Anthony said, turning away from the fire and, leaning in his chair, he turned his attention on his friend. He was happy to be able to finally immerse himself in business alone. His smile faded slowly into a suspenseful stare, however, as he heard Lord Bellings mention a promotion. He waited for the man to go on, he couldn't believe himself but he was practically breathless at those few words. If this pulled through he would be one of the highest and most esteemed people in England. Even moreso than he was now. This was something he had only dreamed of... "Yes?" he finally said, encouraging his friend to go on.

(aye, that's cool with me, Aras.)

____________

Cutler, not regretting anything he said and not overly concerning himself with her tears or pouts, shrugged. He could tell that she was mostly faking this. He had been a fine studier of several of the boys at his school who were notoriously known for their lying and sneaky ways. They were masters in the art of making faces and weaseling out of things they didn't wish to do. Complete spoiled little brats, they were. But he learned you could learn something from their antics if you watched them close enough. And now was one of the good examples of how you could use what you had learned. Now he knew what Keyara was doing. Cutler turned back to Mr. Cantrell. He was slightly sorry that the man should receive and hold any bad impressions of him. As a whole Cutler liked to be liked, but he couldn’t abide this Keyara and her games were too much to pass up. “I am sorry,” he said to Mr. Cantrell, “but I am simply saying what my first impression is. Perhaps she should heed my advice so it doesn’t happen again. But I certainly didn't mean to hurt her. Mother would never have taught me that... I was just trying to help her, of course.” he turned back to Keyara, smugly smiling.
