Waverly nodded, glancing around the hall with a great sigh. "You're right, you're right... So much to be done!" She frowned a little and added quietly, "I'm going to miss this place..."
~~~~
Haven leaned against the crumbling wall of the fortress with a heavy sigh, resting his forehead against his palm wearily. His head still throbbed, clouding his thoughts.
...Lilith... He pushed the thought back, scolding himself. He didn't have time for such things, there was too much planning to do. They had to get the soldiers into the city unnoticed, find a safe place for those who would not be fighting - and, of course, there was going to be more debate on that matter, he was sure - and they had to make sure they left no trace behind, and that they had enough rations to support both parties. So much to be done... so little time to do it.
Haven groaned deeply.
"Before he tells some one when somthing is wrong?" Asked Lillith. Tomos chuckled. "Never, if he can help it. He's a great leader; sharp witted, stubborn, some what prideful. What makes him great might one day kill him, unfortunately." Tomos krept a bit closer to Lillith. "Was Haven alright?" He asked quietly, voicing his concern. "His head seemed to hurt him horribly. Head wounds can go wrong easily, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not a healer, but might his outburst be related to his injury? He's not usually this hot headed."
Keith had dozed off in the warm sun and suddenly woke up by the cry of a crow. His hand automatically grabbed the hilt of his sword but he let go of it as he spotted the bird. Yet he didn't feel relieved. A black crow was a bad omen.
Stupid man he scolded at himself. Do you know also believe in old-women's talk? Do you want to end just like your mother? Keith stood up, deciding to walk for a bit just to clear his head. His leg ached but he didn't feel much of it for his thoughts were somewhere else.
His mother.. It had been very long since he last had thought of her. Why was it so painful to think of her? He only felt hate.. or was there also a spark of love? Keith mother had come from a far eastern country. Her skin was dark, her hair raven black and her eyes enchanting eyes. That was what made his father fall in love with her. His mother had her own special ways; she was different. She was able to heal people with her spices, make them become in trance with her songs.
The citizens feared her. "Witch" they all whispered about her.. But his mother didn't care or made effort to blend in with the rest and Keith hated her for that. On a certain moment she was arrested and accused of Withcraft. He had been just a little boy but he'd watched her trial. She was burnt and he and his father were exciled from town. But his father didn't live long.. he died of a broken heart.
Waking up from his thoughts, he shivered. Did the memories affect him so? Or it was because he had wandered deeper into the woods almost were the sun couldn't shine. He turned and started to limp back.
"Lost, hm?"
The voice came so suddenly from the darkness of the forest that it was frightening. "How unfortunate..." A group of men suddenly formed a half circle around Keith from behind. They were on foot, armed, but they wore no armor. Their tunics bore the royal colors, just barely identifiable in the dim light. The head guard was grinning at him, looking quite satisfied at his find. They had snuck up on him so quietly that it was apparent they had been tracking him for some time now.
"I suggest you come quietly for your own good, outlaw," the man said calmly, giving him a look that dared Keith to try something stupid. He cocked his head to the right, then to the left, indicating that the soldiers on either side of him both had crossbows aimed straight at his heart.
( Sojo I think that your avi is too large.. it should be 100 by 100  I like it though  )
Keith drew his sword within an eyeblink. The men in front of him seemed no soldiers, bounty hunters perhaps? He slowly walked back as they hadn't surrounded him yet. How could he have not heard them? Had he been dreaming? Running was no option with his leg, he realised.
He gave no response to the leader's command, instead he kept on limping backwards. "I am no outlaw" he whispered. "I'm an hermit. I live alone in these woods.."
(( Yeah, I was just noticing... Thanks. I'll fix it... ))
The guardsman raised a brow, obviously not buying any of this. "What use does a hermit have of a sword? Don't waste my time with lies."
He gave a slight nod to one of the archers and an arrow flew, landing just a fraction away from his foot. "I assure you, he didn't have to miss. Stop trying to run, we all know how this is going to end."
"To protect myself from wild animals..or robbers like you" Keith replied although he had no idea of what he was saying or whether it was sensical. He just wanted to buy himself time. His mind ran over all the possibilities of what he could do. Escape? Impossible. Stand and fight? He would most definately be killed.
When the arrow almost hit his foot he froze. He decided to do nothing for now.. just wait. If they would come closer, he would fight.
A ripple of laughter spread through the men. "Robbers?" The leader of the pack looked amused. "Clearly you don't know who you're dealing with."
He drew his sword, the polished steel gleaming in the dappled light. "My name is Thadeous Klorn, and I serve my King, Garrin the Ninth, Lord of the Great House. And, moreover, I am under orders to take you into custody, traitor."
"Your King seems a robber to me" Keith spat. "He looked judgingly at Thadeous, wondering if this man, next to a big mouth, also possessed brains. "My name is John Bourne, a free man, and I am innocent." He tried to stand more steady but his bad leg caused his to waver. Yet he still raised his sword as if accepting Thadeous' challenge.
Thaddeous raised a brow, watching the way Keith wobbled slightly on his feet. "How did you get that wound?" he asked him. "Battle, perhaps? Slaughtering our men the other night? Stop trying to play clever."
"A wolf attacked me during my hunt.. A man must eat right?" Keith answered but he realised he was growing out of smart answers. He was in deep trouble and if he wanted the Headquarters to remain safe he just had to keep up his alias. Therefore he choose to be bold: he who dares wins.
"I'm greatly insulted" Keith said while sheating his sword "and have more important business to attend to." With that he turned and walked away.
This seemed to through the men off a bit. They couldn't kill him for his insolence, he was supposed to be brought back alive...
"I tire of your games, outlaw," Thaddeous snarled, now thoroughly annoyed. "Do not say I didn't give you fair warning..."
He gave a sharp nod to one of his men and a whispering whistle and an arrow was let to fly, aimed straight at the back of Keith's leg, bent on disabling him.
For a moment Keith's world seemed to be in slow-motion. All sounds of the forest, the rustling leaves, the cry of a lost bird, had died and the only thing Keith heard was the whistling sound of the flying arrow. He had no time to turn or to dodge the arrow. Keith knew what was going to happen yet he didn't realise it.
As the arrow hit his left leg a hoarse cry escaped his lips. His touched blindly for his bad leg as he doubled over and fell on the moist earth. Pain overwhelmed him and slowly everything turned black before his eyes.
It was a long, quiet hour before Haven dared to show his face again amongst the others. He walked into the main room and busied himself quietly by gathering up the maps and papers that he'd left discarded on the table. He made eye contact with no one and said nothing.
Quiet tension.
~~~~
Time was lost until Keith woke again.
The forest had faded from his reality like a dream leading into a nightmare. His body had been discarded on the stone floor of a prison cell, shadows draping over him like blankets. It was cold and dark and quiet, the only life around him being a flickering wall torch somewhere further down the hall and the occasional sound of footsteps from the room above him, lost in the blackness. His wounds had been dressed, though his clothes were still stiff with blood.

With a soundless cry Keith woke up. First he thought that he had turned blind for he couldn't see anything; an unknown darkness stretched out in front of him. Only slowly his eyes got used to the absence of light yet he could barely see where he was. The stone tiles on which he lay were cold but Keith had no strength to get up. Although the arrow had been removed from his leg, he could not even get up, just the pain remained. It was almost more than he could take.. The memories of that morning then came back to him and a sudden feeling of panic overwhelmed him. Where was he? What had he done?
