Welcome back to the thread!
*pats*
I'm glad you voted, it's not only your democratic right, but should also be mandatory.

I voted last Tuesday, the second day of early voting. It's crazy how many people are early voting this election. When I voted, there was one lady in front of me. But I've seen stuff on the news where there are lines 2 1/2 hours+ to early vote. It's insane. But as nuts as the early voting lines are, it's bound to be a nightmare on election day.
3 days (after today) until this is over. Thank goodness.

I'll be glad when the elections are over. I'm most likely going to vote but I've never had before. I'm assuming this will be the first time for us all to vote for the next president.

I find it all pretty over-rated. Plus, I'm not the old fashioned kind of woman, I prefer things to be different. I don't even like men that are the romantic type. Eä wrote: Like Mrs Haldir.. do you think 50-75 people is a small wedding crowd??? Here it would be a normal sized wedding, I would even say that 75 invited guests would be considered for a big wedding.. but it might have something to do with weddings being sooo expensive, I think.
That's small by American standard. A lot have like a couple hundred people as guests at weddings here. Honestly though, I'd probably be the under 50. Due to my spiritual beliefs, I much prefer a small crowd, just some family and a few close good friends. (those who are willing to put up with my ways) Plus the marriage would not be considered legal anything so I don't see it as a being a huge matter.

So technically I'm not allowed to post in here until Friday, but in light of the current discussion and my related rant, y'all can deal with it.
*ahem*
THREE DAYS. I am missing this election by three days. Voting deadline is the 4th - I turn 18 on the 7th. Absolutely unbelieveable.
That is all.

True, I actually did mean 'duty', I just couldn't find the right word when I posted! And it is also said in the hope that people in general would be more interested and critical towards politics and what happens around them!
[Jax, sorry I didn't reply to your PM yet, I've been out all day, but I'll try to do it tonight.]
Mrs. Haldir:: Thanks for your input on the wedding topic. It's interesting to hear about different ways.
PotR:: Welcome to the club and I'm really, truly sorry for the birthday's bad timing... but you're just four years away from voting now!
Okay, I've heard about all those huge long lines to go vote... but if everyone is anticipating long lines on the actual election day and therefore go before.. then there shouldn't be any line on the 4th... right?

^ That's what you think, Eä. There will be lots of lazy people and people that haven't had the opportunity to vote who will be out in force on Tuesday. It might be interesting to drive by the local elementary school which is the precinct voting place on Tuesday afternoon. Bahahaha
Happy early birthday, PotR!
That really sucks, missing the elections by that short amount. I was 17 in '04, so I wasn't able to vote then... I was angry, even though my vote would've made no difference.

Np Ea, there is no hurry on the PM
And yeah, it is our duty to vote. If we don't then it's not really a democracy essentually. *shrugs*

Okay... I'm thinking about staying up to watch the results coming in on Tuesday, but since I'm 6-8 hours ahead of the US I'm wondering when anything 'certain' will be announced. I might just get up early in the morning to get updated instead of staying up all night. What time is the deadline to vote on the West coast?

I'm not going to stay up all night, because I have class at 9 am Wednesday morning. Besides, the process of receiving all the numbers and stuff goes long into the night... it's just easier to wake up in the morning and look at the front page of the paper, or the internet.
I'm not sure, but I think the deadline is 7 or 8 pm across the country. If it's 7, that would be 10 pm on the east coast, which would be... around 5 am where you live. It'll be hours beyond the times that the polls close, however, when results are declared. Better just to go on with your day and wait for the evening news, or look around noon your time to see.

The horrible irony is that my brothers are 2 and 4 years younger than me, but they both have September birthdays. So next election will be the first one for all three of us. It's just not fair - the oldest child is supposed to get special privileges and whatnot.
Anyway, yeah, voting on the west coast is over at 9 pm my time, so I'll probably be glued to the TV set until then. Especially since either way, this'll be a historic election, and it'll be cool to tell my grandchildren that I was watching it. And because I'm really anxious to find out the winner.
Regarding the duty to vote: my friend Ben (who's 19) told me he probably wasn't going to vote, and I threatened to kidnap him and drag him to the polls myself. It's especially frustrating to someone who would vote but is missing it by a few days when someone else who can vote decides they're just not going to. I'd give anything to be able to vote in this election - those who can shouldn't take it for granted.

I voted by absentee ballot, yay! I really don't understand why people wouldn't vote. If they think it's because they won't make a difference....I voted. And I live in non-Chicago Illinois. Meaning that whatever I vote, it most likely won't change what our state gets overall. But I still feel the need to be a part of it.
Oh yes, might I join this club?

Verry well said.
Nurrantiel Mashiara: Exactily what I try and tell people.
Besides if everyone had the "One vote isn't going to make a difference" attitude then half the people would end up not voting and if they AL would vote it certainly would make a difference.

I put in my vote today as well. I had to vote in on three ballot questions in my state as well.
