Okay. Perhaps Marie Antoinette is a good movie. I'll stop being a purist. *hides*
Gods and Generals is long, but it doesn't drag. Every minute of the movie is necessary, I think.

Kudos to Kitoky for the fabulous signature set, and art credit to engelszorn.

Dull? Wow. I still sit on the edge of my seat even though I've seen it a dozen times.
So anyone who hasn't seen the Scarlet Pimpernel really ought to watch it. I've only seen the 1999 BBC one but it is brilliant (even though it doesn't follow the book at the end).

One of my favorite historical films is The Alamo (1960) directed by\starring John Wayne, Richard Widmark.....of course, I'm a geek for anything Texas history so of course I loved this film. I wouldn't see the one made in 2004....I saw that one and it was TERRIBLE. The Searchers is good, but I don't know if that counts as being historical....
The comancheros, and generally any film starring John Wayne will be worth watching. He's the ultimate American.
Oh, I also meant to add: Finding Neverland *as someone else recommended* is definitely a must-see. Johnny Depp is so awesome in it, and it's the only film besides Pirates that I like him in.
the older version of Little Women, the one starring I believe Elizabeth Taylor is a great one as well. I don't know how closely it follows the book but it's really good...also there's a newer movie out on Hallmark called "an Old-FAshioned Thanksgiving" that's based on a short story by Louisa May Alcott....that one was pretty good as well.

Yep. I was bored and on a classical movies kick, and watching Scarlet Pimpernel, and wondering if anyone else here had heard of it, and that kind of led here.
GAH. Guns of Navarone is an awesome movie.

Lol, Nurr. I've seen it, but waaay too many times for me to like it. One of my sisters loves that movie, so I've been forced to sit through it more times than I can count. Hence, its interest has vanished for me.

I've seen it since I made my list, but I think The Thin Red Line definitely should be represented on here somewhere. Absolutely a fantastic movie.
