Yeah, people do kind of mislead you about To Kill A Mockingbird because they always talk about Atticus, and his stuff is mostly courtroom stuff. But it's really about the town in general, and how they deal with racism and prejudice and such.
I just found a collection of Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, Woman of the Year, and Adam's Rib for $20. That is going to be ordered once I get back home.  And as long as this is an actual legitimate seller and such. I think it is.
The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men is out on DVD now! I'm so excited. I loved that movie as a kid, and I still love it. Classic Disney.
So you liked How the West Was Won? I thought it was pretty good, but I guess it wasn't what I was expecting. Not as much focus on individuals as there was on the generations. _________________ going on a journey through my old claims

Today was Katherine Hepburn day on TCM. I'm so glad I looked at the schedule. It was a birthday special thing. They played Little Women, Holiday, Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, The Rainmaker, and now they're showing the Lion in Winter. I got to catch most of Holiday, Baby, and all of Philadelphia. Cool! There are times that I really wish I had cable tv.  At work the other night, when I didn't have anything to do, I turned on a tv and found TCM. I just wanted to see what they were showing, but my co-worker came in and changed the station to wrestling. 
I watched <b>The Music Man</b> last night. So fun! I could watch the song in the library over and over.

I cannot believe they decided to remake it.  NO one can replace Robert Preston. And he just had so much energy that was so...captivating. You believed he could really sell the bands. I've seen parts of the new one, and I wouldn't be convinced to buy a pen from him, let alone an instrument and uniforms.
I've been watching a lot of old musicals recently. Anchors Aweigh got me started. And then I was like, "hey, Sinatra was adorable in that and he and Gene Kelly did a few others together, so...." I watched Take Me Out To the Ballgame and On The Town. And you know, it seems kind of unfair. Sinatra falls in love with pretty, popular actress, Kelly ridicules him, Kelly falls in love and gets girl while Sinatra gets "less pretty" girl. The way they do the story makes you not mind at all, but it still irritated me after the fact. And then I went on to Howard Keel and watched Kiss Me Kate again (and bought it) and Annie Get Your Gun. And then Oklahoma, because I'd never seen it and I was home alone so I felt like I could turn it off I needed to.
We were going to watch a movie tonight and Mom asked Dad if he'd ever seen Seven Brides. He said no. I wasn't in the room or I might have warned him, since we'd watched High Society (not nearly as good as Philadelphia) and he'd had issues with the music in that. But he's suffering through.... Nearly lost it during Lonesome Polecat. Dancing with an axe. _________________ going on a journey through my old claims

Now, I quite like Matthew Broderick, and I know if he was in any other film I would fall in love with him... but I have seen a lot of The Music Man on youtube and he just doesn't cut it for me. The only thing I can say is that they show the full version of "Rock Island", which in the original version they omitted a lot of the original Broadway song, which was a shame. But that's all I can say about it.
I've seen a lot of musicals, and my God, Bob Preston was incredible. I cannot believe people to this day rave over Rex Harrison and how great he was both on stage and screen and how he won both the Tony and Oscar for the role... and poor Mr. Preston never even got nominated for an Oscar. Rex Harrison was hammy and ruins My Fair Lady for me.... Robert Preston was a genius.
I've actually only ever seen On The Town but I would really like to see the other Frank Sinatra/Gene Kelly films. You just can't buy them over here and they're never on TV. I've never seen Kiss Me Kate either, as it's the same problem. I have seen (and own) Annie Get Your Gun but Betty Hutton just really annoyed the heck out of me. Oklahoma! is a really good film, but it actually wasn't until I saw the 1999 stage version filmed for TV with Hugh Jackman that I was like "WOW this is a great musical". That's the second time recently I've seen a stage version of a musical I've seen on film, and I've preferred the stage version and it's kinda shook me a little, and made me wonder how many film versions are actualy not as good as the stage shows.... but then again, at least I can watch them anyway, and as recently I've been mourning the amount of Broadway shows I'll never get to see .... anything is better than nothing.
Dancing with an axe is pure awesomeness... tell him to go try it sometimes.
I've asked Kit if I can start a club about film and stage musicals by the way. I need somewhere to fuel my recent obession with Broadway.

Robert Preston was great, but you didn't like Rex Harrison? I loved him in My Fair Lady. Mainly during the Ascot scene and at his mother's house at the end. "I have no intention of changing my manners--my manners are just as good as Pickering's!" I think he's hilarious. But yes, Preston should have gotten more recognition.
Annie Get Your Gun was okay. I basically watched it for Howard Keel. Oklahoma....I had started watching it a while ago and couldn't finish, and I'd be okay if I didn't really have to see it again. Can't say it's a favorite. _________________ going on a journey through my old claims

I think what annoys me about Rex Harrison is his voice, and just the character he plays. I've seen him play it before, and I can't help wondering how more likeable his character could have been had anyone else played Henry Higgins. I used to like him in it, but the more I watch it, the more he irritates me. Haven't seen it for a few years now.
Oh, yes Howard Keel. And Keenan Wynn. He is such a funny character actor, I love watching him. Sometimes you just can't get into films can you? And then next time you watch them it's like "why didn't I see this before?!".
Watched Sunset Boulevard the other day, after listening to the original West End cast soundtrack. Didn't realise how closely the score followed the story of the film, or how many songs revolved around a line a character said. I adore bakstage films, whether it be about movies or the stage, and in one year the two greatest came out, SB and All About Eve. I had forgotten how brilliant SB is, so much it may even have overtaken AAE to be in my Top Ten films. Such a tough year for the Oscars voters as well. Both Bette Davis and Gloria Swanson would have been worthy winners, but I like Judy Holliday for Born Yesterday as well, which she won for. I'm glad I wasn't voting.

That's kind of funny. The more I watch it, the more I like him. I just watched Singing In The Rain and The King And I again. "Is....a puzzlement."
And I absolutely love Donald O'Conner. He steals the show for me. Gene Kelly is good, but I almost always like his co-star(s) better. I like Sinatra's voice better, O'Conner's acting/personality....He is a good dancer, but I spoil myself by watching Tommy Rall. Though Kelly is awesome with tap, which is basically my favorite thing, so he does get props there. _________________ going on a journey through my old claims

Yeah. That's why I never could get into Brigadoon. Because all his dancing is basically ballet, and that really just doesn't interest me that much. I almost always skip that scene in Singing In the Rain, so.....  not alone there.
On the Town is good. Sinatra, Ann Miller, and Betty Garrett are all amazing. And Anne Miller is just an amazing dancer. She's in Kiss Me Kate too. You really need to see that so you can see all the amazing dancing.  _________________ going on a journey through my old claims

Exactly. Van Johnson was my favorite part, but he wasn't in it nearly enough. Though I think it does appear once every 100 years. That's what I got from it at any rate. It's basically that "while the town sleeps" 100 years go by in the world. I just saw The African Queen for the first time last night. I absolutely loved it! I'd heard about it, but I didn't know it was so funny, and I really didn't know it was such a sweet love story. Boggie and Katie Hepburn were so great together! And I found out it's coming to DVD next month! I'm definitely putting it on my wish list. _________________

I also really like the character Lucy Schmeeler. Those sneezes are amazing. XD
