Good evening ladies and gents,

This is the official ROTR poetry contest thread for the first week of ROTR, namely the Hobbit week. (wow, thats a long sentance and no mistake)

The voting will be done by posting on the thread, and I will have a link in my sig for each week of ROTR.

Rewards

I will arrange an award (maybe a banner/sig set) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place if applicable, as well as an honiourable mention. The honourable mention will be voted on via posting on the thread itself. The template for voting is similar to the graphics one. If possible, everyone who participates will get a small graphic, as a sign of participation.
EXAMPLE
1st place- Bobbo
2nd place- Anastasia
3rd place- Erasmus
Honourable mention- Bran

Now, Rules...

Rules- (Know and Obey!)
- Have fun! This contest is to have fun in writing and admiring each others work.
- The piece submitted must be themed to the theme of the week (so, in this week, it would be based around Hobbits, The Shire, general hobbitness etc. The whole point of these poems is to encompass the feel of the places and peoples of middle Earth remember? :P )
- There is no maximum line/word limit, period. Do as epic a poem as you feel you can :P
- The Poem can be any type of poem, in any style that you like. However, if I think a piece of work submitted would be more suited to a prose category, I reserve the right to move it to an appropriate place.. (I don't expect to be doing this, but just as a disclaimer like :) )

Not a rule as such, but I would ask that everyone who enters could give it a once over check for spelling errors and grammer, just to make the judging more enjoyable and about how it captures the feeling of place, rather than SPAG issues. Also, I would ask that you vote on the poem, not on the poet (not meaning to offend anyone or aimed at anyone, but just saying)

Judging will start on the 18th/19th, so submissions should be into me via PM by then.

Any questions, PM me

Many Thanks

Mephiston

ENTRIES

Frodo's Song

Strawberries and cream
Dancing at the party tree
Now that my burden is gone
It all comes back to me

When the trees blew in the breeze
And the smell of flowers flew through the air
I never knew the sweetness of the scent
I merely went without a care

Strawberries and cream
Dancing at the party tree
Now that my burden is gone
It all comes back to me

Small children laugh in delight
Their eyes shine with happy amazement
Never have they seen such wonderous sights
They fall fast asleep after a night long spent

Strawberries and cream
Dancing at the party tree
Now that my burden is gone
It all comes back to me

That world is safe now
As safe as can be
Now that my burden is gone
They will be forever free

To Life

Ah! To walk among the sun-kissed daisies,
To feel both joy and sorrow,
As the wind laughs through the valley fair,
And the children come with kisses.

A song breaks out high in the hills,
A calling - sweet and clear,
Reminder that love is to be cherished,
To be showered and respected.

As the night wakes the moon,
The fire flaring bright,
Warm haven in the stark cold,
The knowledge of contentment.

Let them have their glory, their greatness,
I care not for the dead,
For the living triumph in love,
And in care and in joy.

Other entries will be added if I recieve them.

Meph

Meph, I think this should be posted in the Contests section instead. ;-)

Kitoky, thou art epic above abouve all epic-ness; like Valany'r, the hammer of ancient kings, but less WoW-ey and more person-ey........

So, do I need to state that I'd like to join, or do I just send my entry in when it's ready?

Ahem. For further judging anonymity would be wonderful. Thank you.

Voting closed.

The most pointless thing ever since no voting took place. :annoyed:

Entrants share first place. Ill have a banner set made with an appropriate theme.

Thanks for entering anyway

Meph

It might be helpful next time to either put the entries to be voted on above the rules, or get rid of the rules once voting starts. People might have clicked and been confused and not bothered to keep reading.
