Nurr looked in disgust at the poltergeist. "Ew. No. Go away." She then turned and put him out of her mind. Kit was still half-clutching the crate. "Is it time to guess? We think Ea did it."

Mist strained to see where Kit was, and listened attentively. "I'm glad to hear that Ea is not the murderess," she said solemnly. "One person is off the list of suspects now, but there are still so many left."

Evening’s curiosity was drawn towards the attic; there were many voices coming from that general direction. Somehow managing to climb up the steps in a graceful manner, she cleared her throat as the dusty air of the attic hit her. It seemed that the time had come to guess who Nurr’s murderer was. Evening herself had not managed to guess the culprit at all; her mind having been occupied, for a while, by chocolate biscuits and trying to find somewhere peaceful she could walk.
Kitoky revealed that the killer was not, in fact, Ea.
“Well, that’s a relief!” Evening exclaimed. “She did not seem to have the temperament of a killer.” She stepped beside Mist, and wondered briefly what she was doing up in a dusty attic, and not wandering in a lovely moonlit forest as she was accustomed to doing. “But Mist speaks aright. A cold-blooded murderer is still in our midst.”
If Evening had ever watched television in her life before, she would have instantly put on a detective’s hat and declared, “Evening is afoot”.

Mist looked over at Evening, and nodded. "Would you care to do some exploration, investigation, or something of that sort?"

“I certainly would,” Evening replied. “Something evil is going on here.” She brushed some of the dust from the white skirt of her gown. “Murderers beware!” she declared, and made for the attic steps, trying carefully not to trip and fall.

"Indeed," Mist said, equally as determined, although a slight smile now crept across her face. She followed after Evening, her head held high.

Evening went down the last step of the attic. “Now,” she mused, “Mist, we must think our way into the killer’s mind! If you had just finished off Nurrantiel, what would be your biggest priority?” Her blue-grey gaze swept the landing, as if she would spot the murderer hiding behind a chair if she looked hard enough.

Mist shrugged as she followed along. "I don't exactly know. There could be so many facets to this murder... we don't even know the exact motive, although I believe this case smacks of revenge. I suppose I'd be evading notice at this point, though. Yet, if I were the killer, I might try a different approach - like, say, appearing overly concerned."

Evening nodded. “Certainly, there’s so much we don’t know about this murder. For instance, there’s the mysterious note of ‘Take that’. Is the killer a fan? Or is it a very short poem? Though it’s too short to be a haiku.” She sighed. “The murderer could be blending in amongst us, appearing innocent, quiet and not at all suspicious. Or, as you say, they could be taking an extreme concern! In that respect all of us are suspects.”
She stroked her chin, thinking. “It could be anyone.” This struck her as particularly unpleasant.

"If the murdered was a murderer in days past, as some say, "Take that" could have very well been meant as revenge, although there is still a lot of room for other possibilities. I did not know of the victim as having any mortal enemies present within the party, but that premonition Nurrantiel claims to have experienced could be a clue."

Trailing off, she looked at her companion closely. "Anyone."

Evening appeared to be thinking for a while, not avoiding Mist’s gaze as she tried to puzzle out the situation. After a moment, she gave a determined nod. “Let’s not be put off,” she said. “I think we should explore, and see what clues we find. As we investigate further, these matters might become clearer.”

"Indeed, I agree with you. There could be many clues around this place that have been missed, and we ought to find some. It's our duty to the deceased!" Mist drew herself up straight and nodded. "Where shall we start, Evening?"

“Perhaps the dining room,” Evening suggested. “Most of the guests have spent a lot of time there. Into the breach, dear Mist!” she extended a pale hand towards the staircase, looking like one about to enter the field of battle.
