[[Both - some of the crew is on the Pearl and others are on the Duchess... Mainly to give Sam & Ed some peace and let Vari try to regain her sanity. Not that having Jack there will help any, but we can always try. xD ]]

Sam felt partly grateful when Edward took her back to the Duchess as she needed a few moments to recover from this violent assault. Otherwise she felt fussed over, something she was not used to and somewhat irritated her. She turned to Cole and Carmon, realising that she was not Vari's only friend who'd been let down by her, and said with a genuine smile: "I'm quite alright. There was just a little- argument." She had to laugh about the understatement but inwardely she examined her own feelings. She was alright and convinced that not much harm would be done to her by Vari. But anger and indignation still stirred within her. Sam, not being a person that could harbour anger for long, decided that this had to end. "I will talk to her" she stated to no one in particular. "To Vari." Then she turned to Carmon, with whom she'd become good friends in the mean time of their journey. "Shall we go ashore Carmon?"

--------------------------

"Well then.." Norrington replied in a business mannered way. "I believe we have a bargain." Eager to end the humiliation and be anywhere else but near Cutler Beckett, James gestured to the door. "Shall we then? Miss Pierce?" Upon expressing her name a haughty smile lay on his lips but Norrington said no more. The first thing they needed now, was a ship.

[Ugh.. sorry for the short Norrie post. But I was quite inspirationless :( ]

(YAY! Christine finally has a picture. *dances*)

Gibbs was no longer comfortable waving down his captain. As wonderful as the man could be he was more concerned with his own help and the cannibals had grown too close for him to consider staying anymore and risking his neck...again.

The stout man paused in his turn and looked to the idiotic redhead still raising hell in front of him and without a second thought tossed her gracelessly over his shoulder. The sand was a lot harder to run in with someone over your shoulder. The man thanked god that it wasn't too far he let Christine off his shoulder and pushed her up the side ladder.

He followed her swiftly up onto the safety of the deck where he clapped a hand on Will's shoulder.

"There's a good lad, you did right," he said looking around and pushing one of the men towards a job.

"Come on lads! Weigh anchor get this ship movin' yah lubbers! Waste no time, heave to lads!" He yelled as he walked down the deck wasting no more time in getting the crew moving and everyone to safety.

--------------------------------

Christine's world was turned upside down as she was thrown without any warning. An unhappy 'oof' was thrown from her lungs as she felt herself bounce uncomfortably with each of his steps.

She groaned and would have held her more than likely bruised stomach but was instead - for all intensive purposes - was thrown onto the ladder. Her hands firmly grasped onto the wood and she scrambled onto the deck, followed closely by Gibbs.

The woman pushed up to her feet, taking a few wobbly steps to get used to the rocking of the ship. Although she had been on the Pearl for a few weeks, it never ceased to throw her off balance. Her uncertain movements brought her to the mainsail which she leaned against heavily.

Gibbs came over and gave her a smile but his attention was directed back to the newly returned captain and he grinned, striding over to the man.

"Seems we arrived in time, aye Cap'n?" He said with a chuckle, hitting the man on the shoulder. "Good to have yah back, Jack," he said in a more serious tone, stepping back and nodding to the nearby Will.

Christine watched the near strangers around her and felt uneasy once more. This could have been a bad idea. She looked to her feet and then back up just in time to see Jack tense - or at least she thought he tensed - and turn around. Her frown returned, but did not stay. There was little else she expected. In a way she wanted to do what most of the pirate women would do, barge into the conversation and demand an explanation for previous betrayals, but even the thought made her feel a little ill.

So it came that Christine found herself useless in guilt tripping at the worst time possible. It seemed, however, that life and fate in general had different ideas as she was now stuck in whatever adventure was certain to follow until she could go back to the hole of an apartment she lived in with Rosie and Susan back in Tortuga. Oh how the girls would laugh when they heard her tell her story - which she invariably did.

"Bad idea indeed," she muttered and kicked at a loose bit of string. Her eyes drifted upward towards the crows nest her normal spot during stays on the ship for she had sharp eyes and a good set of lungs when absolutely needed.

(Hey y’all! :-D I hope it’s okay if I join? Me and PD have been discussing how to introduce Guin, and decided that she should be washed ashore, and catch a ride on The Duchess =) )

A body was slowly drifting ashore towards the island. It belonged to a woman, a young woman pale with cold, the waves making her long red hair flutter behind her head. She looked like Shakespeare’s Ophelia, beautiful and unattainable in death. Yet this lady still lived, though she was numb and ghostly. She washed up upon the sand, her eyes still closed in unconsciousness. She was clad in a dark green gown, and seaweed was tangled amongst her hair, as if to match.
This had started about four days’ past, when the crew of Guinevere Elliot’s ship, The Anne Boleyn , had put in motion a mutiny against her. For three years she had captained that most elegant of ships, and she had led her crew to notable wealth and success. She had brought them loot beyond reckoning, through her own cunning and intelligence. They had kitted themselves out like debonair lords with the fine silks and satins they had captured from enemy vessels. They had been a glamorous crew to match their ladylike captain. Yet a storm was rising.
There is an old superstition among pirates that women are bad luck aboard ships. A plot was conjured up by Miss Elliot’s traitorous first mate; he declared that he would make a better captain by far, bring them more wealth and glory, and the crew believed him. One night the mutiny was revealed, and Guinevere responded with a laugh. For they could not possibly survive without her; she had made them what they were. Refusing to listen, they flung her aboard, uncaring whether she would die.

Now she lay here, motionless, close to death.
But all was not lost. As the breeze hit her face, her eyelashes fluttered slightly. Still asleep, her mouth tried to form words, a frown creasing her forehead, but she failed. Her head turned on the sand. She could hear the clamor of the cannibals along the shoreline, who had not seen her yet. The noise disturbed her unconsciousness, and as she tried to speak again, she suddenly coughed, hurling up seawater. She blinked against the sudden rush of sunlight above her head; curls dripping, she slowly sat up, hands clawing the sand. She was soaked wet. Removing a strand of seaweed, she clambered unsteadily to her feet, stumbling precariously. Her head was spinning as she reeled like a drunkard, unsure of what she saw around her; in particular the crowd of cannibals along the beach. Heart thudding, with wild hope she suddenly spotted The Duchess in anchorage. She tried to form a yell, but her voice was still lost. All she could do was croak. Wherever on earth she was, there was a ship. A ship. She needed to get aboard.

(Welcome, Goldy! :D Perhaps, Will, instead of Vari Sam and Carmon can find Guin?

alright. I haven’t seen DMC in… let’s just say a long time… so I’m gonna change up the Jack-Will convo a little ;))

Will felt a hand clap on his shoulder accompanied by Gibb’s robust voice commending him. He turned, acknowledged the man with a tilt of the head and a small wry smile. All the while he kept his eyes pealed for any sight of Jack.

He had almost begun to lose hope when he finally, happily spied the Pearl's captain come aboard. Will made beeline towards Jack. Now that imminent danger had, presumably, passed it was time to get back to what he had come for. Images of Elizabeth locked away in a dark, dank jail cell filled his mind and infuriated his heart. “Yes, Jack. Me,” he said. Trying to retain the captains obviously straying mind, he yelled, "Jack! Jack, Beckett has Elizabeth locked up....” His eyes did a quick search of the captain’s attire. There - dangling at Jack’s side accompanied by numerous other mysterious trinkets - hung the compass. Will’s eyes fastened on it.

--------------------------

The three pirates fell in a loud, wet plop on the Pearl’s deck. Joe sputtered and swore as he tried to regain his footing and his breath all with Vari desperately clinging to him. “What the bloody…” he sputtered out broken, infuriated sentences, “Beauchamp…”

Lucette, equally upset at having to drag not only Joe but Vari too, scrambled onto her feet. She was drenched in salty water. Her hair dripped into her eyes and burned. She carefully pulled it aside and wrung out the soaked auburn mass, ignoring Joe. When she was finished, she finally looked around the ship for the first time. It was as grand as she had heard. Perhaps a little worse for the wear but still beautiful. The sails fluttered in the breeze, the crew were happily back to work after their almost-deadly excursion. Lucette’s eyes lit up once more and a small, devious smile lit her face as she wandered away.

“Were ye tryin’ to drown us?!” Joe bellowed up at Lucette but, as it so happened, she was already long gone. Joe watched her and was about to get up to follow and continue letting her know how livid he was when he heard his name muttered. He glanced down at Vari for the first time. He awkwardly tried to free himself from her iron grasp. “Ye can let go of me now, Var,” he said while prying himself from her hands. Joe settled down beside her on the deck, leaning against the side, letting the warm Caribbean sun soak up the water in his clothes. His eyes roamed the deck, falling on - Jack Sparrow, was it? Fancy that. He never thought he’d see the grand legend… not that he had ever thought Jack Sparrow was anything special - Joe’s eyes also fell on Lucette who had found a nice little perch where she could take in all the goings on on the ship. He intently watched her.

-----------------------------

Carmon gasped at Edward’s violent actions. She quickly, unconsciously covered her mouth with her fair, smooth hands but her sky blue eyes remained wide with fright. Cole, too, was a bit unnerved by the situation. He carefully studied both Edward and Sam. “An argument?” Cole echoed thoughtfully. “With Vari?” he looked at Edward, studying the older man closely.

“Oh, no I’m feeling better, thank you,” Carmon softly replied to Edward. “Yes, I would like that,” she said to Sam with a small, nervous smile. She was uneasy about what exactly had happened between Vari and, she assumed, Sam. However, the desire to see land again overruled everything else. “Cole was about to take me up himself but I suppose I can go with you instead. I’m dying to feel land under my feet again.”

Cole uneasily watched as Sam and Carmon, the former helping and supporting the weakened latter, went on deck. As soon as they were out of sight, he abruptly turned to Edward. “What happened?” he anxiously demanded, looking Edward straight in the eye.

-----------------------------

Lord Beckett nodded in reply to Norrington. It was a deal then. As they retired his office he rose from his seat and walked out onto the terrace which overlooked the harbor. Resting his hands on the wooden rails he looked as far out into the sea as he could. In the distance the blue sky met and mingled with the blue of the ocean. Soon he would have not only the Chest but also, hopefully, Jack Sparrow. And then all that sea out there, the whole vast lot of it would be his.

“Huh? Oh…” Jack muttered as he was shaken from his trance by the desperate, love-stricken whelp. “Elizabeth?” he repeated, running the name over in his mind. The last time he’d seen her was a little over a year back, when he’d killed Barbossa and been reunited with his dear ship. Come to think of it, Elizabeth had been the reason he had gotten into the whole bloody mess. If Jack hadn’t been the good person he was, he should have let her drown and maybe he would actually be enjoying a drink in a small tavern in Tortuga right now with no worries whatsoever. “Beckett…” The name had left a bad taste in his mouth and he spat, the fluid inadvertently hitting a bald crewmember in the back of the head and running slowly down his neck. He grinned humorously before turning back to Will, the smile fading from his face and a more serious expression taking over. “Listen lad, the only way I’ll agree to help ye and yer, charming belle, as it were, is if ye help me find <i>this</i>.” With a dramatic gesture, Jack flourished the tattered drawing of a key he had borrowed from the prison island with utterly no intention of returning.

--------------------------

Vari whimpered as Joe severed the physical contact between them. The gentle Caribbean breeze made her shiver, despite the fact that it was a warm, sunny day. Her eyes, red and tear-stained, scanned the deck. She knew this ship… she’d been on it before… but when? Time had long since blurred, for she could no longer recall the name nor many of the faces rushing about, completing their assigned tasks. But what Vari did know was that it belonged to an old friend. Craning her neck, she spotted those unmistakable dreadlocks knotted with trinkets, drunken movements and kohl-rimmed eyes currently focused on Will. Upon seeing the pirate captain, Vari didn’t know whether to be elated or distraught, or a combination of the two. <i>Sparrow. Jack Sparrow…</i> Yes, Vari remembered him, but did he remember her? After all, she had been just another person on Jack’s countless list of one-night lovers - something she was certainly not proud of. The only redeeming thing about it was that they had managed to become friends and sail the seas for quite some time. That had been the good life, when things weren’t so difficult or complicated, before this whole mess had begun; commandeering ships out of Port Royal, escaping from jail, sailing without bearings on the endless sea to find a mythical chest that may or may not truly exist in the company of those that had not been originally intended to join her… In all honesty it made Vari want to burst into tears again.

But she held them back long enough to pull herself to her feet and slump over the railing, watching as the island and bloodthirsty cannibals shrunk into the distance. Just ahead of the <i>Black Pearl</i> was the <i>Dowager Duchess</i>, on which were Ed and Sam, the two main causes of her mental and emotional trauma. If ever she were to see them again… “Nay, look what good it’s done ye.” Vari whispered to herself, pushing long, wet locks of hair behind her ear. “But now ye’ve got Joe…” She stared at him with half-lidded eyes, unaware that the previous statement had been spoken aloud with the aforementioned man not two feet away…

--------------------------

Edward shook his head as Carmon and Sam left the lower deck to get some fresh air. “I honestly don’t understand it, Cole. Vari’s hardly looked at me right for the past few months, an’ then as Sam and I went ashore, she attacked Sam with such force and strength I’ve never seen a woman use before… I know it’s jealousy controlling her but likewise, watchin’ her and Kerringston prancing about hasn’t caused <i>me</i> to act that way…” Edward clenched his teeth and looked up at the wooden flooring overhead them. “I guess what I’m saying is… I love Sam dearly and never want to see her hurt - but… but maybe asking her hand in marriage would be a big mistake on my part. I can’t stand the sight of Vari an’ Joe together… He isn’t the one. I am.” The rational side of his brain that had been blinded by love was finally awoken. He still had feelings for Vari, deeper than they ever could or would be for Sam. It was then that he remembered all of the times he and the beautiful redhead had spent together, and realized that each and every one of those moments, Edward was imagining Vari in Sam’s place.

--------------------------

Two pairs of green eyes locked; Keyara met Norrington’s gaze as the pair was escorted from Lord Beckett’s office by awaiting soldiers. It was clear that Beckett had known both would take to his offer and had already prepared a ship for their journey; wherever it would take them. The dark hall lit only by dying candles seemed to stretch on forever as they went, and Keyara scrunched her nose as she leant closer to James and growled, “You reek to the high heavens. If you expect us to remain in company together, then I suggest you do something about it.”

--------------------------

A glimmer of red and gold dazzling in the sun; the figure passed over the docks like a vibrant parade, drawing glances and murmurs as she went from barterers and traders alike.

“Miss!” The older gentleman had finally managed to catch up with her quick pace. He was a proper looking man, holding a book firmly against his chest, circular glasses hanging onto the very tip of his nose. “Miss, it is three shillings to dock in Port Royal… I shall also need to know your name if you please.” The young black boy at his side stared up at her in awe.

Maribel briefly caught the boy’s gaze and flashed a gentle smile at him. She reached into the pocket of her coat and instead provided a necklace of pearls; a rare trinket her family had passed onto her. “My mother was given this by Spanish nobility,” the brunette lied, “worth much more than three shillings. And you may call me… MP.” With a slight nod, the red and gold-clad woman bid the man good-day and moved further into city she hadn’t set foot in for near fifteen years.

[[I will be referring to Maribel as MP for a while, because it just has that sort of mystery to it. Just in case you should ever wonder who I’m talking about. ;-)]]

Dante was walking aboard the Duchess when his feet caught on something quite heavy and yet soft. He had to reach out his hand to steady himself on some stacked barrels before he fell. With a grunt he looked down to see the cause of his almost trip and saw something he did not expect.

"A-Rose? What the hell are you doing down there?" Aurora-Rose was spread out on the deck of the ship. Her eyes seemingly glancing right into the sun.

"It's quite relaxing actually. It's like being apart of the ship you know. Feeling every movement of the waves against your sides, the heat of the sun, the breeze of the fresh air. Every tiny detail is easily felt from here." Brown eyes moved from the bright sun to stare up at her friend.

"Care to join me?"

Dante stared at her as if she were crazy. It wasn't the first time he looked upon his friend like this, but he had to admit what she said sounded appealing too. He knew what it felt like to be a part of the ship. He was a pirate for god's sake, it was his nature to be a part of the sea and the ship, but he was always a believer in seeing things from another perspective.

"Well, I guess." Hiking up his trousers a bit he threw his lengthy dark hair over his shoulder so that he could lay down next to Aurora, ignoring the whispers from some of the crew members about the possible outbreak of scurvy, or insanity.

Guin desperately tried to regain her balance as she veered around, outstretching her arms, reeling like a drunkard. She waded through the waves towards the Duchess , her head still spinning. She had to admit, she felt pretty bad; no, in all truthfulness, she felt ill, as if she had sampled too much rum. Actually, Guin had never tasted that drink favoured so much by most pirates; she had always prided herself on style, and whenever she had attacked an enemy vessel, she’d order the crew to raid the ship cellar for some fashionable, expensive wines.

Attempting to find her voice again, she finally succeeded (only after coughing up a fair amount of sea water again), and yelled up at the ship as the sea waves swirled around her waist, waving her arms wildly, and stumbling slightly in the process. “Help!” she yelled. “HELP! Man – woman – overboard!”

She glanced over her shoulder at the beach beyond, her sight blurring a little. This was far too much like some unfunny joke. A pirate captain, betrayed by her crew, washed up upon some god-forsaken island. Wobbling again, attempting balance, Guin’s mind switched focus back towards the Duchess. If they didn’t hear her, then that was it, she might as well abandon hope now. Taking a deep breath, she made one last effort to be heard. “HELLO?” she hollered, the strain painful on her voice. She wasn’t a woman who often raised her voice above so much as a murmur.

Peeling a strand of seaweed from her arm, her mind started to wander again, her sight a vague haze of blue sea as she frowned with the effort of remaining keeping upright.

[ I'm not sure whether the ships are already sailing or not, but shall we say both ships are still anchored at the canaibal island? ;) ]

Sam took Carmon's arm and accompanied her back to the upper deck and over the gangway ashore. "Ain't it beautiful?" she cried out, taking in the beautiful picture of the white beach, large palm trees and lush plants. If there hadn't been a violent tribe of savages retreated in the jungle, then she really would have pressed the Captain to stay here somewhat longer.
She turned to Carmon and the redhead looked at her with a worried glance. Her friend's complexion was pale and her figure was skinny; as she'd never got used to her new 'home'.
"Oh, Carmon" Sam sighed, her voice filled with sadness. "After our escape from Port Royal I've never taken a moment to apologize to you. You should never have been dragged into this. I never planned on going to your house if it wasn't for Vari-." Abruptly she stopped talking. In her anxiety to apoligize to Carmon, she'd almost forgotten that her friendship with Vari was probably over. Sam took Carmon's hand and looked at her friend. "We can get you home Carmon. I shall talk to the Captain.. it has to be possible to get near to Port Royal, so you'll be able to go home!" Sam's eyes started to glister and a determined smile appeared on her face. She had a plan; she would make sure that her friend could go home.
Suddenly Sam was distracted and her gaze went to the spot behind Carmon's shoulder. Something lay on the beach. "Carmon," Sam slowly started, pointing towards the figure. "What's that?"

-----------------------------

James threw Keyara a glance of disdain; his haughty look was one of the few things that had remained of his previous flawless appearance. His clothes already looked filthy and worn out and Norrington had lost his wig and his hat as well. His belt with his pistol and sword had been returned to him after he'd left Beckett's office but it was clear from the first glance at him: Norrington was not Commodore anymore.
"And you smell of conspiracy..with a filthy rat like Beckett," James responded coldly. Suddenly he stopped walking, glanced back at a house which they'd passed and ran back. Next to the house was a barrel with rainwater, which James had spotted and in which his head now completely disappeared. Water splashed around when he ran back to Keyara. "Ah.. that's refreshing. You should try it too.. But then," he added with a sneer. "Sin doesn't wash off that easily."
