What are your thoughts? I'm still amazed Up got nominated for Best Picture but considering the reaction last year with Wall-E, not quite that surprising. I'm also shocked that District 9 managed to get up there as well. I really really REALLY hope District 9 gets the Visual Effects. Star Trek? I love you. And Avatar, I would if I saw you but District 9 managed to do it without a truckload of money. I'm seriously shocked that 9 didn't make it to Best Art Direction and District 9 for Best Cinematography. I felt disappointed that Capitalism: A Love Story didn't make it to Best Documentary Feature. Personal favourites aside from District 9...Christopher Waltz for Best Supporting Actor. That guy made you love a freakin' NAZI! While Ralph Fiennes just made you look at him and think "Oh...*beep*" This might go along with my hype aversion/dislike for Avatar, but I really didn't feel it deserved that many awards. And I feel sorry for Coraline. It was a great and wonderful film but it has no chance against Pixar and Up. I still need to see that though.

After seeing the list, I realized that I haven't seen many films this year. I completely agree with you about Christopher Waltz. He was great! I though Avatar was good but I hate when one movie gets a nomination in almost every catagory... no matter how much I liked it.

Well to be fair, Return of the King did the exact same thing and WON every category it was in and I kinda doubt any of us would begrudge it.

Then again, I need to see Avatar so I can judge for myself.

I liked the message and the visuals of Avatar the best. I still need to see UP and I heard Coraline wasn't that great from a few people but I still want to see it so I can judge myself. I have a feeling that Sandra Bullock will win for her performance in The Blind Side. I haven't seen the movie but all I ever hear about it is how amazing she was. I didn't see Capitalism: A Love Story either but I really wanted to. I am actuall a bit suprised it didn't make it as well. With the issues it was adressing I thought it would have.

I thought of the BEST way to settle the Visual Effect Award. Each team creates an army of their respective aliens and then have them fight each other! Prawns vs. Na'vi vs. Vulcan (or whatever) Who. Is. Deadliest? I can be so immature sometimes.

Film-making wise, I think Avatar is getting a lot of nods, mainly due to the fact that this is James Cameron's FIRST film since the Titanic and that he's sat on this production and this film idea until he felt the technology of filmmaking was able to convey the his vision.

I mean, since Titanic guys. You know, back when Leonardo was <i>young</i>.

I am watching the Red Carpet Ceremony as well right now. I agree with you Kit, it's great to see the interviews and it gives us a chance to connect with everyone. Does anyone else love the gowns!? So far I love Sandra Bullock's dress the best. I would totally wear that.


I have the actual award show set to record in case by some strange twist of fate I have to leave the house.


Awww... George Clooney is such a sweetheart. Spending time with the people like us who have to stand behind a gate. I admire that a lot, especially someone of his stature in society. Good on him.
