Yah I'm gonna miss the ponytail cutting as well. Unless the signifance is changed to something else in the movie...or perhaps the ponytails on the helmets hold as much value? I dunno grasping at straws I guess. But I always saw that as a very important part of two characters' journeys.

I think Ozai's fear comes from his intimidation and manipulation. His voice is very powerful [Yay Luke Skywalker lol]

I think some fans were complaining about how the helmets were such a clear rip off of Lord of the Rings and I just kind of rolled my eyes.

Oh good point. He's got a good enough menacing voice (although, when it comes to menacing voices, Long Feng and Koh takes the FREAKING ICING OFF OF ALL THE CAKES IN THE WORLD) but we haven't actually seen him do a lot of intimidating and manipulation AFTER we meet him, it's all from stuff he's done in the past. And maybe it's simply because we just didn't see enough of his conniving-ness. A lot of the evil was put through what Azula does, because she's more in the action.

Btw, if they mis-cast Azula, I will cry.

Some people will complain about anything. Just for the sake of complaining.

I think, for me at least, Ozai's intimidation came from the fact he was always in the shadows lurking. This silhouette that commanded such fear and had such a power over so many other people.

Yes!! Azula must be cast right

Is it fair to state that Azula and Ozai are of a completely different evil? They are obviously the same sort of power-hungry people, but Ozai seems to be more of a deep rooted evilness, who would be willing to watch as his father is assassinated in order to attain the throne while Azula's just the flat out CRAZY EVIL.

Oooo! Pretty videos! I'm way more excited than I should be for this movie. And you know what? I don't really care. I bet there will be just as many twenty year olds going to see the movie as there are little kids.

I agree, Kit. Azula is the "lock her away" crazy, where Ozai is more on the level of Hitler or Pol Pot.

I hope that this movie doesn't try to be too overly dramatic. From the trailers it looks quite epic, and that's a good thing, but I hope the movie doesn't sacrifice comedy just to shove in as many battle scenes as they can. Part of what made Avatar so fun is the comedy. I'll be dissapointed if it isn't there.

Yup that's how I see it. Azula is nuttier than a granola bar [or something of equal nuttiness]. But she's also highly manipulative, a trait I feel she learned from dear old dad.

Naur' I think there's going to be comedic elements. But the tone of the movie will be more dramatic as there combining an entire Season into 2 hours approximately. I think this is the right move to make.

I'm pretty sure he will. He's not Sokka without the quirky humour.

Well, if they don't I'm sure that Sokka will arrive Ember Island Players Style (via an irate fan, of course) and give the writers a piece of his mind. :D

Forgive my ignorance.

There has been so much activity in this thread recently and now I had to see what it was about. I don't wanna miss out on a good hype so I found this :P

What is it? A book, a tv-series made into movie? Or just a movie?

The movie that is coming out, The Last Airbender, is the first of a planned trilogy directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

It's solely based on the 2005-2008 aired cartoon animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender". I highly recommend the original television series, which makes up three seasons (called books; Book 1: Water, Book 2: Earth, Book 3: Fire) which follows the adventure of the last known Airbender, the last Avatar, in preventing the destruction of the free world from the power-hungry forces of the Fire Nation.

There are four cultures that represents the four elements.
The Water Tribes.
The Earth Kingdom.
The Fire Nation.
The Air Nomads.

The premise of the series introduces us the this fantasy world based on Asian-cultures, specific cultures can be debated. There are a lot of similarities with the Earth Kingdom and the Chinese. Likewise, the Water Tribes could be related to the Mongols/Russians. In these cultures, there are people who can manipulate the element of which their culture represents. For example, Zuko (the villain of our story) is the exiled prince of the Fire Nation and he can bend fire. Without these four kingdoms and these four elements, the world is set out of balance and makes the spirits uneasy. The Avatar, a being whose spirit is passed on from one generation to the next, is endowed with the ability to bend all elements despite the culture they were born into.

Coming into the story, we learn that the Fire Nation has been slowly conquering the other nations after the disappearance of the Avatar. By this time, they have completely wiped out the Air Nomads save for the Last Airbender, who is the hero of the story.

Book 1: Water has 20 episodes; the journey of Aang (the Avatar) in reaching the Northern Water Tribe in order to find a Waterbending master to teach him master the element of Water.
Book 2: Earth has 20 episodes; the journey of Aang in mastering Earthbending while traveling to the Earth Kingdom's most impenetrable city, Ba Sing Se, to ally with the kingdom to plan a strike against the Fire Nation.
Book 3: Fire has 21 episodes; the journey of Aang after the surrender of the Earth Kingdom to Fire Nation control in order to defeat Fire Lord Ozai who plans to massacre the entire Earth Kingdom as his grandfather had done to the Air Nomads

Yes, this is, in fact, a kid's show. But it's a VERY clever kid's show.

Edited many, many times to try and explain the idea as clearly as possible.

You explained it far better than I could have. I'd have given up and posted a Wiki link

You know, I had no idea this was an M. Night Shyalmalan film as well as a TV show until I accidentally found out on IMDB.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME HUH?

....

Ok, but so far he has not disappointed me with any of his films and it would have been too weird and wrong if I knew nothing about it until the trailer was out.

That's a really helpful description Kit. I am now not-so-in-the-dark which is good. I like to use lightbulbs. :P

Thanks Kit. I love when people actully take the time to explain. Wikipedia posts are very often way too detailed because they are written by fans or there is a short, dull to-the-point description, like this:
Wikipedia wrote:
In a world where the elements, Water, Earth, Fire, and Air can be controlled by people known as "benders", the Fire Nation is waging a ruthless war to control the other great nations. The only hope for stopping the war rests on the shoulders of a reluctant young boy named Aang (Noah Ringer). The last known Airbender and survivor of the peaceful Air Nomads, Aang is the Avatar. The Avatar is the physical embodiment of the world, with the ability to control all four elements and draw upon the combined power, knowledge, and experience of the Avatar's previous incarnations. The Avatar's duty is to maintain peace between the four nations and the spirit realm, ensuring that the world remains in balance, a balance threatened by the Fire Nation's war. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her warrior brother Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), Aang begins a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world. Standing in their way is the ambitious Fire Nation Admiral, Zhao, (Aasif Mandvi) and Prince Zuko (Dev Patel), the banished prince of the Fire Nation who seeks to capture Aang to regain his honor.

I got much more from your explanation. I feel like reading the books now. :-)
