But we didn't see.... yep we didn't see

Were you watching the regular version? Because if you were then Saruman is not in that one, but he is in the Extended Version.

But not in his proper place... there is no scouring of the Shire. Which is sad, because in the books that bit really brought it back to you that amongst all these great adventures evil could still get to their normal lives, and they had to save their home, not just the world as a whole.

^Ah yes. That did kind of make me angry that PJ did not put in The Scouring of the Shire. I can see why they chose to do it that way though. If PJ had put in The Scouring of the Shire there would have been at least a whole other hour added to the movie.
Not that I'm complaining about the length of it, I'd watch LotR even if it were 5 hours long.

The main problem was that the movie had to be a mainstream blockbuster. All people who had read the book have been dissappinted in a way. But in my opinion the problem is not the missing....its the altering of the book that really gets to me. But lets be honest....it could have been worser, dont you think?

I think PJ has done it very good, but it is a bit sad that we don't see Saruman after Frodo's journey. I think it is also sad that we don't see how Legolas meets Treebeard and the departing of Elrond and Arwen..
But for anything else: I LOVE PJ

In my opinion, It was a great mistake...
They do not show what happens to Saruman... It's a great part of the book... I didn't really like the third PJ's movie ...

people were already saying the end was way too long...I would have enjoyed seeing more too. But I think PJ handled the one scene (extended) that had Saruman well.

What I don't get is why Wormtongue killed him. Well, I understand why he had reasons to but........Oh my gosh, I'm lost.

Probably he was just being used by Saruman and wanted to have his revenge...And he saw that as the right moment...And well , you know.

I was a bit disappointed that The Scouring of the Shire wasn't in the movie, but I do understand why it was taken out. A lot of people were complaining already that the movie had far too many endings (Reuniting the Fellowship, Aragorn's Coronation, Return to the Shire, and The Grey Havens), and putting that scene would have added one more. And while I agree that it shows a good point with the Hobbits having to save their homes, it wasn't a completely necessary part of the book.
The problem with The Lord of the Rings is how enormous of a book it is. Tolkien's intention from the start was to see how long he could make a book and still hold the reader's interest. It would have been simply impossible to make a decent-length movie and not cut things out. That's why Tolkien sold the movie rights for pratically nothing: he was sure it couldn't be done. Every true book fan was disappointed in some way with a thing that was altered or omitted from the movies. I was particularily gutted with Frodo-sends-Sam-away alteration. But now that all is said and done, I love the movies as much as I do the books.
Frankly, if anyone could do better than Peter Jackson did, I would be in awe. *shrug*

I did miss the Scouring a lot. I was especially sad that we didn't see it because I heard that the only real reason we didn't see it is that PJ doesn't like that part. Myself, I find angry hobbits funny and touching. But unfortunately it's gone.
I do love most of the movies though, and RotK is actually my favorite.

I agree with you, Firiel. It was a good part of the book. I can understand why PJ didn't like it, though. It's a sad part. But I would've loved to see angry Hobbits. That would've been cute and hilarious (angry Hobbits, not destroyed Shire).
RotK is my favourite movie, too. It gives a lot of closure to the trilogy.
