The last episode was a bit of a for me. I was a bit sad afterwards, but now I really want to know how the show ends. The next episode is supposed to give the back story of Jaccob and Man in Black. It's entitled "what they died for," so I think it will help give some closure to the characters that were killed off.

Thank you, Eru. Agreed.
SR, actually the writers have, since that episode, explained why they killed off as many original charries as they did. And their explanation makes perfect sense to moi. Basically it was to establish how terrible the MIB really was… it was to REALLY pit Jack, Sawyer & Co. against him. They said they also wanted to kill off 3 candidates in one fell swoop though they knew it would upset fans. Basically, they said that The Candidate was the literal beginning of the end of the series and Sun, Jin and Sayid’s deaths all sorta were to signify that the show is coming to an end and these characters have all reached the end of their arcs. *slightly spoilerish* ahem, don’t worry about Sawyer… IF spoilers are correct I believe he’ll definitely make it to the end. Which actually surprised me ‘cause I honestly did not think Ben and Sawyer would make it to the finale. But take heart 'cause to my knowledge no more hugely canon characters will die until the finale... then again, what do I know? lol
Banana, umm, I thought the next episode was titled Across the Sea and then the ep after that was What They Died For...
FRANK SPOILER FRANK IS ALIVE!Yes, it has been confirmed. Hah! I knew it! The writers aren't that foolish...

@SilverRose, I understand and I would be absolutely heartbroken if Sawyer did die. I don't think I'd be able to handle that. Or Hurley. But I'd still watch it and understand that it's what the writers felt had to happen in the story. And even if Sawyer or Hurley did die, the show is almost over anyways so it's not like I'd have to endure an endless amount of seasons without them.
@PD, You're correct, the next episode is indeed "Across the Sea" and it's the Jacob/Man in Black one.

k...decided to weigh in on this whole character death thingy.
**SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS AVOID AVOID AVOID**
Sayid's death, while sad was ultimately heroic. He died saving people and to me that is special. It was Charlie levels of awesome. Not that he died, but how it was written and the bravery [or stupidity depending on how you look it it lol] needed to sacrifice yourself for the greater good. Seeing that spark of the old Sayid made me more emotional than his actual demise.
I get being upset and not wanting to watch again. But the Lost characters are sum parts of a much bigger whole. No one character should be above the series. Not Locke, Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, Kate...NO-ONE. Maybe I'm just old and desensitized to it. But I've seen many of my favourite characters come and go. It's sad, often horrible but you deal with it and move on.
Just so I don't look like I'm ragging for ragging's sake. My fave Lost character? Daniel Faraday. From the moment he appeared I was utterly smitten with him and he shot up the ranks of my fave list very very quickly....now, think about how HE died for a moment. I'm still as an ardent fan of the show as I was in the beginning. My love for the show hasn't waned at all. Not even when people were *beep* it out every other week for not answering every single question.
My point?
You just have to accept that characters will and can die in your fave shows. It's just as in real life. It's hard and upsetting, but you learn to move on and deal with it.

I'm so glad that Frank is rumoured to be alive! But my feelings have been the same as Silver. I was shocked that the writeers killled of so many original Losties.. I know the show is coming to an end, but deep in my heart I'd hoped that the Losties that were still alive, were going to make it.. (Save for Sayid, since he already acted a bit strange ) I know that was a foolish thought, I mean, this is Lost..
Anyway, I will still watch the show and they better keep Richard, Jack, Sawyer and Frank alive. Because I love them so much..

To be honest JF, I don't think anyone knows (unless you've read spoilers, which I haven't). The last episode didn't feature Ben so his fate is still up for grabs.

I just got caught up after missing a few weeks. First of all, the twins were adorable. I want my kids to be perfectly matched like that. It was also so strange to see Allison Janney turn up in a LOST episode!
I was totally stunned by "The Candidate." I could sort of tell that (spoilers) Sayid was eventually going to die, although it was incredibly sudden, but Jin and Sun's deaths were totally out of left field.
Jack's story has become really fascinating to me. He hasn't been my favorite character, but he's at least been the one I've most consistently liked, so I enjoy seeing how he's evolved.

This might contain Spoilers:
I must say, last week's episode was interesting. The fact that Jacob and MIB are brothers was not surprising, but that he was already by then searching to get off the island was unexpected indeed. Too bad we don't know his name already..
And what about that source that Jacob must protect..? Does anyone have a clue what it exactly might represent?
I was actually thinking that John Locke did find this source.. He said in episode 1x06, "I looked into the eye of the Island, and what I saw was beautiful.." Already by then he spoke of their destiny to be there..

Gestalt psychology, ftw! Ahem. I'm proud that I just related something from Psych class to RL.
I definitely get what you all are saying about the death of Losties. I just don't agree with the writers letting us down like that. PD, that makes a lot of sense! That makes me feel a little better about their purpose. I just felt like it was horribly random and out of nowhere, but I guess the writers do know what they're doing.
GO FRANK! Yesh.
This last episode wasn't my favorite, but I was very happy to get some answers. Munchkin MIB is absolutely adorable. I loveth him. I was pretty surprised to find out that (small font for anti-spoiler purposes) Grown up MIB/Smokey isn't actually human. I thought that somebody had put a weird spell on him or something, but seeing Smokey absorb the light, and then seeing dead MIB was...wow. Poor Jacob! He's stuck keeping Smokey/Ex-Light of the Island from leaving, because once it gets out, pretty much everyone dies. At least, that's what the creepy non-mother alluded to.
