I'm honestly not sure. It's obviously a dragon so of course we think it's Roku's spirit companion, but the line about how Aang may be too late to stop them sounds a bit more like Koh. We'll have to see. I'm hoping M. Night is allowing Koh to change shape, because I really love his centipede/millipede form.
@Raivynn: RIIIIGHHHHTT? The other trailers got me excited for the next few months but THIS TRAILER HAD ME WANTING IT RIGHT NOW. And it's just NOT FAIR, but oh my gosh, Katara's fierceness, I can't even.

...They got his arrow wrong. I mean...it's like...dashed...and...it shouldn't be dashed...
But nonetheless I am excited. My friend introduced me to the cartoons a while back because she has the dvds, and now I've seen everything except for the last 4 episodes, and I am officially a fan! Kinda anxious that they might mess something up in the movie though though...I'll have to re-watch the trailers sometime soon lol.

lol, I love how some people see new Avatar stuff and they get even more upset over it, while others see the new stuff and get more excited. It's mostly just an observation.
Though I didn't notice the Appa arrow thing before, lol, ah well--- artistic liberties and what not. Much like how Aang has tattoos instead of a bright blue arrow on his forehead at all times.

I think the Arrow looks better more intricate. Putting the solid blue arrow on Noah's head would just be ridiculous looking. The movie arrow looks more real world and I love how it has the elemental symbols woven into it. It's beautiful.

I agree, Raivynn. I really like how M. Night's been working it to be more realistically speaking for live action instead of keeping it completely cartoon-y.
I'm also really pleased with how Yue looks. I was slightly worried at the start of the project that the white hair would be really awkward looking on the big screen but it looks great. Although Yue seems to have been given really vivid eyes for some reason.

True, true - a solid blue line would look ridiculous in live action. It was just an observation that threw me off at first.
And yeah, I noticed Yue's eyes too - it's hard not too. I like the bright vivid eyes, though. They fit her.

Yue looks amazing and beautiful. Considering how she is how she is, her eyes and hair look perfect. Very striking.

Have any of you seen this movie yet?
If you have: I'm sorry, I feel your pain. I stayed up for the midnight premiere even though I had to be up at five the next morning. I was excited, but I walked out very disappointed.
if you haven't seen it: Don't. You'd be paying money to have your dreams crushed.
I don't even know where to begin criticizing this movie. Its just that bad.

Hmm... I saw it. I thought it was actually quite good.
Reasons: *SPOILER ALERT*
1) Whats-his-face had to cram 12+ hours of episode footage into less than 3 hours of movie footage. Taking it from a movie makers point of veiw he did a dang good job. Could have been better, but he did his best.
2)He had valid reasons for the three most major changes. First, the pronunciation of the names was changed to the asian pronunciation rather than the american pronunciation in order to appease people about the "racist" issue and to pay homige to whatever-his-name-is's background. Second, firebenders DID have an unfair advantage, which M attempted to solve. Third, the Kyoshi warriors were his favorite characters, but were taking over the film. Therefore, M took them out entirely as it is better to have them not at all than to have them too much.
3) The hardest type of film to make is one adapted from another source, be it book, comic, or TV show. Anyone who attemps to keep as close to the main plot as possible (like M) is a brave soul. Many filmmakers say "to heck with the original story, it's too hard... lets just rip off the characters and make our own plot!" *cough*Howtotrainyourdragon/Eragon*cough* but I believe that M tried his hardest to get the essence of the plot into the film.
Remember, some things can be done with animation and 20+ 30 minute episodes that are not physically possible in live action and under 3 hours.

I agree with a lot of your points. He had so much material to work with, and he did a fantastic job of keeping the plot the same. I just think that his task was doomed from the start. There's no way he can make a two hour movie from 12+ hours of material, and still keep that original spirit of the series alive. What made the series so entertaining for me was that it was just plain fun. It didn't take itself too seriously. The plot dealt with some serious issues, yes, but at the same time it wasn't rushed. There was simply no way for M. Night Shymalan to make his movie work like that. I know a couple people who have never seen the series. They watched this movie, and they had no idea what was going on.
I didn't mind the absence of the Kyoshi workers either. Like you said, there was only so much time to do it. I also don't mind that he made fire benders dependent on a source. I actually really liked that change. The other benders can't create their own element. Why should fire benders be able to?
However, I wasn't at all thrilled about him changing the pronunciation. If he wanted his movie to be more authentically Asian, then he should have hired asian actors. The series is an American made show. It takes place in a world that has no Asia. The characters already have a name that is pronounced a certain way and has been for three seasons. Changing the pronunciation of the names just makes him sound pretentious. And I don't even understand where people get the idea that everyone in the series is Asian. They don't look asian at all. Aang is extremely white looking (I actually think the person who portrayed him looks a lot like him). The same goes for Katara and Sokka, albeit a bit more tan.
Also, the movie was just poorly made. The acting was pretty bad. Whenever Aang was onscreen I felt like I was watching a grade school play. He had absolutely no idea what to do with his arms, and he had problems showing the right emotions. Katara was little better, and Sokka little better still. In my opinion, Zuko and Iroh were the only bright points actor wise.
The movie felt awkward. Some scenes were just felt so weird. I don't remember exactly what was happening, but there was this one moment where the characters were conversing with Aang. Every time it showed him speak, there was a huge close up of his face, so close that his face didn't even fit on the screen. It was so awkward to look at.
Plot wise M Night Shymalan did a bang up job. But it lacked the energy and flair, and laid back attitude that made the series so much fun. The acting was sub par, the visuals merely mediocre, and the change in pronunciation just insulting. (Avatar is a word that is used in english. It already has a set pronunciation. If they change the pronunciation of that word, why not every other word?)

I saw it twice. The first time I hated it and was very disappointed. The second time I went only to hang out with a friend (she had asked to play volleyball the day before, and I said no, so I didn't want to turn her down twice in a row) and to my surprise I ended up liking it. Aang's acting was still wooden, Katara's narration was still awkward, and the exposition was still rushed, but I still found myself close to loving it. Don't know why - maybe it's because I already had all my expectations crushed, which allowed me to enjoy what Shyamalan actually did well.
Also, the score. You have to admit, that score was amazing.

Maybe it was because I was planning on having my soul crushed out of me, but it wasn't too bad. I found myself dying with the pronunciation. I know what he was trying to do with making it more authentic, but it made me feel like it was a bit pretentious.
Things it could have used more of:
1. Bending battles - I died that they did not have the Master Pakku vs Katara or Katara vs. Zuko battles in tact.
2. Sokka - I wanted more of his fun witty banter.
3. Uncle Iroh - At first I was skeptical about the actor because he didn't look like the part, then he started talking. And I found him to be just as jolly as I wanted him to be. My sister and I and were totally excited.
