Spoilers, yada yada.
PLEASE. JUST LET MORGANA KNOW THAT MERLIN HAS MAGIC.
Though she would probably use that as a way to get rid of him reeeeeally quickly, so I guess not. But oh man, it was heartbreaking to have her yelling that he doesn't understand.
Well, FF, I mean any siege is going to be similar in some ways. And when you have an army besieging a castle, it's going to be even more similar. Myself, I thought more of Helm's Deep than Gondor. The whole scaling the ladders and such, no battering ram, etc.
I was glad that Morgana had more things going on in this episode than turning her head away and giving an evil smile. Especially loving the scenes in the crypt. And Uther going out to fight! Yay Uther!
Also, I'm hoping the bit with Gwen is a good sign. They didn't kiss. They just spoke. Now, let's have more of that, shall we? Conversations. Getting to know them and their relationship more. Here's hoping.
And did anyone else love the bit when Arthur said Merlin showed wisdom? I feel like that is really good at showing the growth there. A year ago he may not have said that. He would always stop just short. And he did for a minute - "I won't call it wisdom" - but then he actually broke down. I loved that moment.

SPOILERS for 3x02
I LOVED this episode! So many great, great things. Arthur taking on the responsibility of kingship, the entire crypt scene, Uther being forced to sit back and trust Arthur...
I particularly enjoyed the Gwen/Arthur scene (of course ), for all the reasons Nurr said and more. It seemed Gwen was setting some boundaries for their relationship: like when he told her she didn't need to call him 'sire.' And her response "There is every need. Sire." I think she's trying to keep some distance between them, to protect both of them. Gwen always says "it can never be", and I think she's trying to make sure neither of them gets hurt. She honestly believes she'll never be queen, and she doesn't want Arthur to truly fall in love with her and then have to marry someone else, and she also doesn't want to be taken advantage of. I thought it was interesting to see her try and take a step back.
Oh, and Gwen looked gorgeous, as well. The yellow brocade overpiece to her dress is really pretty. And while we're on the subject of prettiness, Morgana's hair looks awesome in a braid.
I actually really enjoyed the scene between the dragon and Merlin; now that Merlin is a Dragonlord there's a more equal relationship between them (or actually, I suppose, they've just switched positions; now Merlin is the one in control). It's shaken up the dynamics.
The crypt scene was heartbreaking. I wonder what would have happened if Merlin had told Morgana he had magic in 2x03...

Continuing on the subject of prettiness, not to sound shallow (though it totally is) the boys are so pretty. But most especially Bradley when he was looking at Uther before the siege. Also, I'm becoming a huge Colin fangirl. Not gonna lie.
But enough of that. I agree Minuial, Gwen trying to put boundaries on their relationship is really interesting. Especially with her thinking she won't be queen, and how that'll play in with Lancelot. Who had better be back soon and actually be around more than one episode, PRETTY PLEASE WRITERS?
And yeah, the fact that the Dragon has to obey Merlin as a Dragonlord is just really interesting. How much will he resent it and how much will Merlin need his help? I doubt we'll have Merlin calling him every episode for advice.
IF ONLY. If Merlin had told Morgana way back when....would she have gone evil? Would she be in this situation? It's interesting. But my heart breaks for both of them.
How does everyone feel about the next episode? I'm not sure yet. I feel like it'll be similar to "Beauty and the Beast" and I wasn't a huge fan of those. I mean, there was some good stuff but sometimes it was just....hm. Well, we'll see I guess. I do think it will be interesting that Merlin can't be like, "Hey Gaius there's this problem" and get help since Gaius is the problem.

SPOILERS, ETC
First, let me say, Nurr, that your banner is beyond gorgeous.
ANYWAY. Okay, so I must say I enjoyed this episode much more than the premiere. We started to see the closer bond between Arthur and Merlin that I complained about last week. There were some real gems banter-wise "I trust in your destiny." "Have you been on the cider?" But there was also some seriousness between the two as Nurr mentioned, which was also nice.
Also, SO glad that Arthur finally stood up and actually took charge. It was surprising that last week he sort of balked at the opportunity, and we finally got a glimpse of what the series would be like without Uther (which, btw, would be sad). Also, on the shallow girl side, Bradley looks real good in a position of authority.
Merlin in general was just fantastic in the episode. There were a few lines that were just absolutely cheesetastic "I'm not nervous. I trust in your destiny?" but were great nonetheless. The chemistry between him and Morgana was absolutely beyond belief. The look the two of them shared when Uther announced she was the hero of the fight was so perfect, and I really hope they keep this storyline going.
Overall, WOO! Loved this episode a lot.
Next week is going to be interesting, I think. Here is the divide between British comedy and American comedy, because the whole badmanners!Gaius thing doesn't seem very funny to me. It'll be pretty funny to see Richard Wilson do this, however. I dunno. We'll see how over the top it is. So long as it isn't a two-parter.

SPOILERS FOR FUTURE WEEKS
Episode 3x04 is titled "Gwaine". Spoilery pictures here. I AM SO READY FOR THIS ONE. I was literally bouncing up and down in my chair and giggling like a maniac. My roommate asked me if I was okay.
Although apparently we get donkey-eared Arthur this week. That shall be interesting.

SPOILERS FOR 3X04
Me too, Nurr! I was sooo excited when I saw that ep description! I love that they're introducing another character from the legend.
I also heard that Mordred won't be appearing this season at all, which frankly disappoints me. The kid is flat-out awesome.
And two more things from 3x02. One, Sir Leon is my new hero. Took me a while, but I'm now a full-on fangirl.
And two, I hope Cenred turns up again. He has this interesting history and relationship with Morgause, and he had this very interesting line when he decided to call off the siege. "I'd rather that [disappoint Morgause] than watch thousands of men die!" And I find that interesting because his choice of words ( watch thousands of men die) seems to indicate that his concern is that he doesn't want his men to die needlessly, not that he just doesn't want his army (and thus himself) to be weakened.
Having a sympathetic political enemy to Uther would be verrry interesting.

SPOILERS 3x02
Agreed! I love Cenred. I think he's got the potential to be a really good recurring villain. Because he isn't just some random creature they have to fight or a person out for blood. He's a king that wants more power, but isn't going to exploit his army for it. It would definitely be interesting to see him come back.
AND MORE SPOILERS
I know, right? I get so excited when they bring in "new" characters. And, apparently, Lancelot is back as well. There are pictures of Gwaine and Lance dressed in knight's clothing. Also, there are pictures of Morgana wearing the crown. I'm verrrrry curious about this.
Sir Leon! He's awesome. I love him. He's that random character that no one knows about and then suddenly rockets to stardom. I'm so glad he survived the dragon attack.
Really, no Mordred? That's sad. It seems like he would be an essential part of Morgana's continued evilness. I wonder how they'll work him back in then.

Well, in the original history/myth (not that that means ANYTHING in this show) the only time Mordred's name appears is in concurrence with Arthur's death. So I think the writers would have a hard time working him in a bunch since his storyline can never really come to closure, you know, unless they kill Arthur (perish the thought).

Yeah, but it seems like they really tried to tie him and Morgana together last season. It just seems like if they wanted to have that connection, they should bring him in to at least some of season 3. Hm.
SPOLIERY
So, Gaius as a goblin? I enjoyed bald Uther and donkey Arthur, but my favorite bits had to be all his one-liner quips. Gotta love the wit. Although I can't say it was my favorite episode or anything. Middle of the line. But favorite part of the episode was Gwen and Merlin working together again. We haven't had that in forever! It was great to see them doing that. And also to have seen Gwen doing something besides being "the love interest"! I hope this keeps up.
GWAINE. GIVE ME NEXT WEEK NOW.

So, having finally gotten around to viewing this ep...
WEEK OLD SPOILERS 3X03
Okay, not a great episode, not a terrible episode. I think I liked 'Beauty and the Beast' better.
That said, I found some of Gaius's one-liners absolutely hilarious, and I did love the tavern scene (and no, not just because Sir Leon was in it. )
And like Nurr said, it was awesome to see the Gwen/Merlin Team of Awesome out saving Camelot again.
SPOILERS FOR 3X04
I am sooo stoked! Also I had an epic dream in which Lancelot appeared in 3x04 and he and Gwaine hit it off and were best buds and were generally awesome together. Yeah.

It's because the US can't have decent shows. Well, that's harsh. But the majority of our stuff is either "reality TV" (gag me), high intensity dramas (good every so often, but they go on for way too many seasons), or comedy that I don't touch with a 10 foot pole because sorry, but crude innuendo and comments every other line are not really my thing. We do have the occasional good show, which we then have to fight really hard to keep. BBC has fun shows. Maybe not the best script writing or development or effects ever, but FUN.
Plus good looking guys with accents? that begs for non-British viewers.

I KNOW. *dies of the pretty*
SPOILERS 3.04
Gah, the tavern scene was gold. Loved Merlin's line "I'd like to see you try!" And then all the other brutes, and Arthur "You just had to open your big mouth."
Gwaine introducing himself to Merlin during the fight! The barmaid liking Merlin over Arthur! Such greatness.
I freaking love Gwaine too. It's awesome to get a guy who is has the 'noble peasant' thing going on (though he's not actually a peasant) but is just a rough around the edges guy who likes to have fun.
It's impossible not to compare him to Lancelot, since they both believe that nobility is what is inside a person, not outside. But aside from that they couldn't be more different; Lancelot respects the authorities, I think, (even Uther, whether he agrees with or likes him or not) and Gwaine...well, we all know what Gwaine thinks of most noblemen.
ALSO ALSO ALSO.
"You and Arthur, you fought well together."
"Maybe someday we will again."
Is that Round Table foreshadowing I hear?
I LOVE THIS EPISODE.
SPOILERS 3.05
Next week looks fantastic too-we get Merlin and Morgana conflict, Arthur hugging Guinevere...

SPOILERS. DUH
You know, I was talking to other people who said that they didn't really have any opinion on this episode, and I was like "REALLY?! WHAT ABOUT GWAAAAAINE?!" One, he was gorgeous, two, he kind of had this Han Solo rogue-but-really-honorable thing that definitely worked. Plus, shirtless. Plus, some serious Merlin/Gwaine love going on. AND I thought him failing at seducing Gwen was one of the best scenes in the series so far. It wasn't over-the-top comedic or dramatic, it was just a real life social interaction. It was sweet and honest.
Also, for once, it was nice for Arthur to, you know, not be "misguided" (see also, prat) and actually know what he was talking about for once.
The bar scene was so rad too. The fighting wasn't necessarily the best they've had, but seeing Merlin actually being able to hold himself in the fight was great, and Arthur NOT being able to was a nice change as well. But definitely the best part of the whole scene was the entrance with Arthur pouting over Merlin being more attractive. Hahahaha.

^I know, having Merlin be the more attractive was awesome. Loved it.
LARGE CAPS WITH LOTS OF SPACING MUST MEAN SPOILERS!
Poor Merlin! Oh man, I felt so bad for him because he looked so sad knowing he'd "killed" Morgana. I'm wondering how the Dragon will deal with Merlin commanding him to save the person he's wanted to have dead for....a long time. Also, the Arthur/Gwen hughold was adorable. Loved it. And Morgana using magic against Merlin was pretty cool. I hope we get an epic battle between them sometime, both full out using magic.
Morgana as Uther's daughter? The images of her with the crown make so much more sense now! Legit claim. We'll see how that unfolds.
