This has to be one of the cutest movies I've ever seen! I think it's place is now right there next to Finding Nemo in my favorite CGI movies! At first my mom had NO idea what it was about and was a little leary about watching it. But even after just five minutes into it, we were in love!

I loved how Toothless wouldn't let anyone have their way until they appologized! It was so cute! And this is also one of those movies you have to watch more than once so you can see all the little stuff you missed the first time through. Like a viking picking ear wax out of his ear while Hiccup runs past him in the beginning battle. And other stuff like that.

I don't want to buy movies often. When I do, they have to be really good. But this is one of those movies I really wish I had the money to buy!

I LOVE that movie! I've seen ut just a few weeks ago and like you, I first wondered where it was about, especially because I'm not so fond of animation films, but after 10 minutes I was convinced that it was the best animation film I've seen in a long time. :)

There were some quotes that really made me laugh like:

Stoick: When you carry this axe, you carry all of us with you. Which means you *walk* like us, you *talk* like us, you *think* like us. No more of this.
Hiccup: You just gestured to *all* of me.

Hiccup: This conversation is feeling *very* one-sided...

Hiccup: Well. It's satisfying to know that all our food has been dropped down a hole.

The movie was good...however, there is a book series that is much better.

I thought the movie was really cute too. :D The dry and sarcastic humor is just brilliant and the dragons were adorable. It was cleverly done.

I really liked this when I saw it in the cinema (wasn't too fond of the modern teen/young person look on some of the vikings, but I lived with it). It's the only film I have seen in 3D that actually looked GOOD, and as if it was all meant to work together, rather than just sticking 3D stuff all over it to make more money.

Toothless was so cute. (Very Stitch like I though, but I think the guy who did Lilo and Stitch had something to do with this film).

Toothless is even cuter in the book where he is a little sholder dragon with NO teeth.

the author is Cressida Cowell.

books:

#1 How to train your dragon

#2 How to be a pirate

#3 How to speak dragonese

#4 How to cheat a dragon's curse

#5 How to twist a dragon's tale

#6 A hero's guide to deadly dragons

#7 How to ride a dragon's storm

All of the books are very short around 250pages in large font with pictures of the people. The books are also VERY difrent for the movie just to let you know. The movie does not have all of the charactors form the book and some of the people in the movie that are in the book are not alike. Read the books and tell me what you think. I personally like the books the most, they are silly and cute.

My face hurt during this entire movie. Why, may you ask? Because I was grinning like an idiot through the whole thing and my face cramped up. :-D I thought that Ratatouille would always be my favorite animated movie, but this has tied with it or even surpassed it. The humor, the emotion, the soundtrack....everything was so perfect.

I think they're going to make a sequel, but I don't see how they can do better than this. I almost wish they wouldn't because sequels tend to ruin the effect of the first film. :confuzzled:

^ Really? Ratatouille is one of my favourite animated films. Wouldn't have said HTTYD was quite the same quality either of animation, story, voices etc.

But I agree. The novelty of HTTYD was encountering the dragons etc. I don't know if a sequel, whether based on a book or not, is the right way to go.

Another Ratatouille fan! :bounce: It's one of my favorite movies of all time, even among non-animated films. I thought that HTTYD had the same sweetness and emotion that makes me love Ratatouille so much. I'm not sure how the techincal aspect of it measures up, but something about it really brought out the joy in me. :)

Nurr, when I saw the movie for the first time, I was floored by how stunning it was! My favorite song from the film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY07_dX3F88

HTTYD was probably the one movie I've seen where the 3D looked like it belonged there. I've seen numerous movies since then where the 3D was just painful. The ash, the fire, the flying scenes were enhanced with the 3D, instead of purposely put in just to use 3D. I think that's where this movie differs, as the 3D was a tool, just like CGI in general, Massive, miniatures and the lot are tools.

Toothless was very similar to Stitch, but I think that's just because both him and Stitch were based on some of the mannerisms of cats. Which is something you can pick up on in both of their actions. He was definitely a creative, and for the most part, unique character.

As a dragon fan, I was not particularly impressed with the look of the dragons, I realize that it is a kids movie, and they don't have to be anatomically correct, or whatever, but it's always been one of my niggles. Weight distribution, wing size in proportion to body sizes, size of eyes/heads/feet. Out of all of them, Toothless and the Green Death were probably the most "realistic", if you can say that. Toothless simply because he had the four legs, the longer and wider wings, as well as the flaps on his lower back and tail.

The soundtrack is one of my most favorite ever. Forbidden Friendship is my fave track, and I had the cd on repeat for several weeks after I got it. And as with most of my favorite soundtracks, you can pick out specific moments in the movie just by listening to the songs, and not just by the title.

I immensely enjoyed it, and saw it three times in theatres, once even as a date movie. :P I just bought it the other day, and it's fantastic even on a smaller screen.
